Re: "Syncing" with Ancestry

Finally merged. I am going to make ongoing changes to ancestry through the search window but I want to update ancestry first. I will use the plugins to export and exclude certain information but how do I get it to update my existing tree?

Re: "Syncing" with Ancestry

Blimey merging is taking its time (though doing it one handed isn't helping). Any chance there is a short cut key for "Match"?

Re: "Syncing" with Ancestry

Thanks Mike. I have only just started a proper cleanse of FH so maybe I will just import the extra people from Ancestry so FH has everything and then tidy up FH before copying back to Ancestry. I got an email today from Ancestry, 4 months for 20. Might be the solution to my clearing the hints back l...

Re: Common interests / research

Definitely an essex boy ;) I was in essex from 5-21 so was there long enough. Went to uni in hull and everyone asked about white stilettos! No longer have that issue in Melbourne.

"Syncing" with Ancestry

After some more advice (Ancestry help was a little sparse). I have my master tree on FH6 and a tree on Ancestry. My ancestry tree was my master tree before I was noting most of my sources. After a while of using FH I decided to start again and try and ensure every fact was sourced etc. Of course lif...

Re: Web clipping not working properly

Yes that's what happened. I will go round in a bigger circle. It wasn't too bad this morning but last night it was driving me nuts.

I would normal just atrach a graphic but waa easier than working out where paint is on my laptop. Not quite awake either!

Re: Web clipping not working properly

I am still getting this issue but it seems it is only a problem where there is more than one source for a fact/event. I have attached a screen print of my scenario. I am trying to drag the event date to the Text From Source field but for the second source starting MT. When I drag it across it seems ...

Web clipping not working properly

Hi
I have just upgraded to version 6.0.1 and I'm trying to drag some text from family Search to the source record and the source keeps changing to whatever field my mouse passes over. Is this a glitch with the new version!?
Was working fine before.

Great. I will do that. I am experimenting using the three main parties I am investigating for my course. If it works, I will gradually migrate everything else. Thanks for all your help.

Re: Recording sources

Wow two extra things to try. Thanks Mike I am going to try that approach and try the added media field. How would you suggest I set it up so that if I every need to list all the Ancestry records etc in a report/query? Not sure if I am likely to, but would hate to make things difficult for myself in ...

Re: Recording sources

Thanks. I keep forgetting about the shared notes! That should help. I might put the collection name as the first line of the shared note and maybe the publication details or author. For the parish details what do you put? I have a lot of images from published by the Dorset Family History Society and...

Recording sources

Hi Not sure if I should post this here or in the Genera Usage board, but here goes... I am trying to keep to a standard on how I enter sources in FH. I also want to record information about what the source collection is. I just thought I would ask to see what everyone else does with recording it wit...

Re: Research Log

Thank for that Mike. I have managed to fit 4 maybe 5 instances of the attribute. I'm guessing there is no way to have a list box with them all in similar to the fact tab? I am likely to start recording all my research now and this will only show the first five. Not the end of the world as they are o...

Re: Research Log

Thanks Mike, I will try that.

I tried to have a separate tab for research but I couldn't get it to show as I liked. I was hoping for it to be like the facts tab but just with the research log attribute only. I ended up deleting it and using the facts tab for entry.

Research Log

Hi I have create a basic Research Log (I have since discovered GenQuiry but having installation issues) and want a bit of guidance on formatting the report and any suggestions for improvement if you see any. I have created a custom attribute which is post-death (so appears at the bottom of the list)...

Re: workflow and getting organized

I have requested to join that group too. Though I really should try and minimise my genealogy time at the moment. I have also been having a look at GenQuiry too and might give that a go. My method seems to cover what I need as a basic log, but I think GenQuiry might tick a few boxes in regards to ma...

This has been an interesting post as I am currently reviewing my processes and file naming conventions. Hi I have loads like this so what I have done is Wandsworth, London, Surrey, England. For newer records before it was absorbed by London I use Wandsworth, London, , England. By doing it this way I should be able to target certain counties when new records appear. Also where counties have changed I j...

Re: Best format of PLACe and ADDRess for Map Geocoding

Wow that is a lot to digest and I'm not sure of the answer. I have decided that I will use address for the house name and street address. The place I have four fields. So Town 1, Town 2, County, Country. I keep the place fairly close to the historic address so one ancestor was born Kingsand, Devon an...
