Re: restoring settings
No I'm not pulling your leg as you remarked. However, I'll try to start again. Back to the old pc version of FH6, attached screen shot of back up settings, also I've backed up a copy of my proper project. Presumably I can delete the gedcom version from my new pc FH6? Please bear in mind that I'm an ...

Re: restoring settings
When I backed up on settings on the old pc it asked me to back up my tree as a gedcom, so I named it for today's date and restored it as such.

Re: restoring settings
It's not possible: On the old PC use Tools > (Work with) External File Links in each Project and ensure all File Links are listed in Project Data Folder - Media without any X marks, and drive letters such as C: are NOT mentioned. Otherwise stop and ask for help in the Forums. When I did it, it has c...

restoring settings
Have done what was said about 'back up and restore fh settings' but it doesn't work, there are no media items and when I look at the external settings there are loads of x's in my media files! This is extremely complicated even with 2 pcs , the new and the old side by side, it would be impossible ot...

Hello Mike,
I've not got the facilities to run both pcs so perhaps I could take a chance with the riskier migration guide?

Re: pc renewal
The problem is that once I set up the new pc, the old one will be disconnected prior to installing the new one. My current version of FH is 6.04, I keep the latest project on a portable hard drive. Can I transfer the program to the portable hard drive and then upload it and the project on to the new...

Re: Places truncated correction
That's super, Lorna, and now I can merge same addresses as well which tidies the program up nicely. Well worth going through the edit places list to check for the rest of our FH users.
Thank you very much.

Places truncated correction
I've been re researching some of my tree and found that when I entered places like Greenwich, Greater London, England, the latter part has been cut off so it says Eng instead of England. Is there a way of checking all my places in order to correct them please?

English Dates on Windows 10 system
I've just upgraded my Win 7 to Win 10 and after a bit of difficulty I found and uploaded my current project. Seems OK except it seems to be using the US system of dates for bmds as well as when I last updated records.

Re: need a custom query FH6
If my name is Smith, and a 5th cousin marries say Annie Rogers(my relation) to Fred Bloggs(he becomes my relation's husband). However in the AS marriage, one has to record, Fred Bloggs's parent or parents-these are not related to me and so should be deleted from my tree; obviously I can make a note ...

Not directly related custom query
I need a custom query to be made up to show which people are not directly related to me. This occurs a lot when using AS to add marriages and I end up with the spouse's parents who are not related to me.
Thank you

Some of my ancestors/relations didn't always emigrate to places but travelled there for work purposes and took their families with them or they went later.

Re: burials and cremations
Hello,
Yes that seems to work but I forgot to mention that I needed to add particular surnames and presumably that would give me their Christian names?
