Re: program crashed!
I always fully back up my project when I exit the FH program to my J drive which is the phd, in case of desktop pc problems. I don't see how the project 'thinks' that the project is always there when the FH folder is in my documents? Whenever I start the AS process it always says I have to save befo...

Re: program crashed!
Yes changing it to a normal ged file shows it at the top as a project not a gedcom however it doesn't appear in the project window as attached screenshot, so I have to browse for it in the folder and am able to update and back it up but still no appearances in the window!

BTW I tried to back up the 'new' file but it will only allow me to do a small backup, the medium and full are greyed out!

Re: program crashed!
Ah Bisto-I think! The AS snapshot has now brought the media/photos back on to the tree on FH6 with the names after I carried out your proper instructions last time. Regarding the other methods: the first one didn't give me the snapshot option and the 3rd one restored but with no media I think. Thank...

Re: program crashed!
The 1st 2 options don't work. The 3rd AS option, I don't really understand, I've copied the file from AS snapshots but as you can see from the attached screen shot I've pasted and renamed it but can't find the 'old' gedcom to rename it? I've restored the renamed one to FH and it has all the names bu...

Re: program crashed!
Attached screen shot of FH6 window and result when I try to load the gedcom from my documents.
Also I can see the media files in my documents as you said.
Bear in mind that as before I'm still a technophobe.

Re: program crashed!
There is nothing at all in my projects window on FH6! Also I back up my research nearly ever day as a full version to my portable hard drive. My project back up is shown from 180316 as you can see from the attached screen shot as a zip file. I don't remember what it said as I tried to close and save...

program crashed!
Have been updating my families today (as I've been doing for a while) with the 1939 Register using AS and on trying to close the AS file to take me back to the FH6.1 Program, it crashed saying there was no project and a lot of gobbledy gook on where to go from there! This has never happened before u...

Re: restoring settings
Thank you very much, Mike for your patience and perseverance with this 'old codger'-I was very frightened that I'd completely mess up the program and my research.
I think if I have to get another pc in years to come, it might be simpler to move the hard drive!

Re: restoring settings
I don't think I'm backing up correctly. When I try to restore to new pc, I copy it from J to my docs, fh projects and within there 'back up.' The Restore then asks what I want to restore? See attached screenshot of restore questions, also 3 folders in Docs, like an orange showing 1 to 3. Think I'm s...

Re: restoring settings
I think I may be slowly getting there! I've now got my project on FH6 and media and photos are showing. However, there is a problem with this bit: 7) Run the Plugin Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings on the new PC and in the Options tab tick Allow Restore Registry Data, then use RESTORE to...

Re: restoring settings
I think I'm missing something here again; I've copied the FH6 project from the old pc to the portable drive but can't find a way to copy it to the 'Documents' FH6 project folder without it stating 'back up' and also showing a drive letter? In the projects folder when I try to import it to the FH6 pr...

Re: restoring settings
Ah the penny is about to drop! Have used file explorer to copy the project on to C drive on old pc and thence on to the portable hard drive. Apparently the new win 7 pc doesn't have a windows/file explorer, so I can't copy the project to the documents folder on the new pc? In any case should I paste...

Re: restoring settings
We seem to be going round in circles, I've got the all the media items to turn blue but it still won't remap. See screenshot. By the way I've only 1 project.

Re: restoring settings
You must be misreading the doc on old pc, I can see c: on my copy?
What do I do once the media files go blue? Should I delete my media less project on the new pc?

Re: restoring settings
Hit a snag!
Using your procedure to remap, followed it and everything went blue including project file, media and names, pressed remap and got a pop up which said:
Multiple selection is valid for this action. But all the selected items must belong to the same folder.

Re: restoring settings
Both pc's have version 6.04.0 on them. When I use tools>ext file links, i can't amend the top file but if I click on media then remap as you suggested, I see 'Browse for folder' which shows in the box: Media >birth>census>new folder; at bottom it says: Make new folder or OK or Cancel. What options s...
