Re: display multiple Query Windows
jmurphy, I'm new to FH and still "prepping" my data before I key new items, but there must be 100s. -Any situation where you want to compare one set of results with another - going backwards/forwards -perhaps sort in different ways -list of sources against another query -many of the plugins give the...

Re: running more than one instance of FH
1. I understand that FH uses the project GEDCOM, just wondering how it kept track of it's multiple use. I'm suspecting that FH reads the GEDCOM into some sort of internal/temp database (Lua?), locks the GEDCOM file with some clever report back if opened again, then on completion overwrites the origi...

Re: List All Citations for a Source
Sorry should have been more explicit, I'll rephrase:
"I wonder if the user written plugins will be incorporated into the core of the next update/version. He also mentioned v6 but with no hint of date or what would be included".

display multiple Query Windows
I'm hoping this is simple but I can't figure it out from the help or manual. I am trying to display multiple Query Windows, but whenever I do a 2nd query, the original window is reused. The help says "The Records and Query Windows can never be re-used" which suggests to me that you have to delete th...

running more than one instance of FH
I have looked around but cannot find any definitive details on running more than one instance of FH. I suspect that if 2 separate projects (or GEDCOM files) are open there is not a problem. I have done some empirical testing of running more than one instance of FH on the same dataset, and I suspect ...

Re: List All Citations for a Source
I like the extra columns etc. I recently watched an interview with Simon Orde at Rootstech 2013 on YouTube where he said he greatly appreciated user plugins. I wonder if they will be incorporated in the next update/version. He also mentioned v6 but with no hint of date or what would be included.

Re: ASSOciation tag vs Method 1 Sources
cheers, I thought there must be a way. The ASSOciation sounds like it should be very useful, but if little used and supported (which comes first!), might be best to keep clear of. As far as I can see the Method 1 source title/note should also cover Associations (as in Census, Baptism etc all are not...

ASSOciation tag vs Method 1 Sources
Whilst checking out the GEDCOM spec I came across: Other associations or relationships are represented by the ASSOciation tag. The person's relation or association is the person being pointed to. The association or relationship is stated by the value on the subordinate RELA line. For example: 0 @I1@...

Re: listing all the events/ facts related to a Source
Thanks that is much faster. I had been wondering if it was possible to add items such as plugins, queries, reports, even individuals to the Main Toolbar for quick access, or even a new dropdown menu for similar items, but this is next best for plugins.

Re: listing all the events/ facts related to a Source
Great, the wording of the plugin did not suggest event list to me.
I would have thought that this function would be somehow built into the Source Tab of the Records Window making it faster to use. Something for the wish list.

listing all the events/ facts related to a Source
I am hoping to start using the Method 1 for Sources (a separate source for each multi person event like census with detail in the source text). However, look as I might I cannot find a way of listing all the events/facts related to a Source. For method 1, I would have thought this imperative. The be...

Re: PLACe, ADDRess structure, level use-Lat/ Long from TMG
tatewise, thanks for those extras, I am now happy I can convert my data and structure it so I can do what I reasonably want with it. So in my spare moments I will be moving to FH and coming back to refining the plugin later with at least a preemptive delete of all the ADDRs. The initial tranche of a...

Re: PLACe, ADDRess structure, level use-Lat/ Long from TMG
Cheers, we have lift off, no problem with 2 items either, just have to work out the pattern matching for when there is a - (dash/minus sign) in the text, but I'm hoping that is easy (otherwise simply change them). I'm happy I have now proved my data setup in practice and I see many happy hours playi...

Re: PLACe, ADDRess structure, level use-Lat/ Long from TMG
tatewise, I'm not sure if I need to spend a week or 2 background reading first, but I am having a problem inserting into your original plugin your: local strPLAC = fhGetItemText(ptrFact,'~.PLAC') strPLAC = strPLAC:gsub("Warwickshire","Warks") I tried a few variations and at best I managed the gSUB O...

Re: PLACe, ADDRess structure, level use-Lat/ Long from TMG
tatewise, Your copy PLAC to ADDR plugin works a treat, I can then use (I think your excellent) search+replace with full stop in LAU pattern mode on fact 2address fields only2 to delete them. I was surprised that it removed the ADDR tags from the GEDCOM, I thought it would just have left them blank, ...

Re: PLACe, ADDRess structure, level use-Lat/ Long from TMG
It's a cracker, works a treat now with your PLAC NOTE input method. I noticed in the GEDCOM file, created by FH it goes: 2 ADDR address, ad , etc 3 CONT note line/para 1 3 CONT note line/para 2 whereas for PLAC with your All > note creation method via FH: 2 PLAC Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland, SCT 3 NOTE...

Re: PLACe, ADDRess structure, level use-Lat/ Long from TMG
I could not resist a quick play with this but got limited results: I created ADDRess 20 text lines (paragraphs) manually via the facts tab for birth > address RHS tab > Edit Address. - This showed up as 1st line with the ADDR, then 19 CONT lines in the GEDCOM. - went to diagrams > options > text tab...

Re: PLACe, ADDRess structure, level use-Lat/ Long from TMG
thanks for those very interesting foods for thought, I had never considered or worked with the NOTE part of PLAC, with work they sound even more useful than simple selection of the comma separated fields, I feel experiments coming on. However by the time I sorted it out FH might have a new system! F...

Re: PLACe, ADDRess structure, level use-Lat/ Long from TMG
tatewise, your Plugin in 10124|Moving Place data to Address Field looked very useful, I don't suppose you know if it was developed further, jayef does not seem to be around any longer, at least not under that name. But your plugin is a good starting point. A little against the norm, but I could keep...

Thanks tatewise again for your responses, even though they were not very good news, but hope for the future with "but Calico Pie are aware that FH needs the ability to flexibly select/display any columns from any comma separated field."! And apologies for my delay in replying, you had me off at a ta...

Re: Census details import to Family Historian 5 from TMG
tatewise You have encouraged me to learn a bit about citations, still a long way to go I fear, but this small snippet re source method1 and 2 was very illuminating: http://www.fhug.org.uk/wiki/doku.php?id=glossary:sources I usually use method 2, with any text attached to the tag note, but I can see ...

Re: Census details import to Family Historian 5 from TMG
thanks again tatewise, that is starting to make sense. I have always shied away from using Sources with citations as I found they were difficult to export "clearly" and create clear reports with "all the detail for an individual" in say an individual report or online trees. I might so some experimen...

Re: Census details import to Family Historian 5 from TMG
Bit late in the day, but hope this helps. I have used TMG for years, and although the Witness and Roles of TMG are excellent, if you want to share or export your data to say Rootsweb trees it is either not possible or very flaky. For that reason I never used Witness and Roles and shied clear even of...

Re: Importing from Legacy Software
Your idea of using the Free version of Legacy to import a Legacy file then do a GEDCOM export sounds good. On my free copy of Legacy, the GEDCOM output option is 5.5.1, I think FH is 5.5.0, don't know if that makes any difference. I also did an export of a lot of data I loaded into Legacy and the GE...
