Re: Search and Replace Plugin, filter on fact
That makes sense, hence Jane's List All Citations for a Source and your amended version List All Citations for Any Sources take a relatively, long time to run.

Re: Search and Replace Plugin, filter on fact
OK, so a search is done for text in Source notes, that could pick up say 50 Sources, those 50 sources might be linked to 200 facts between them, but say 6 Fact types . The idea is to only find the sources that relate to 1 of those Fact types. I appreciate it might not "define a meaningful algorithm"...

Re: Search and Replace Plugin, filter on fact
Yes Mike, I appreciate it is getting a bit messy, so I will rephrase: "When the Search/Change Scope is Source Records (SOUR), it be further filtered by Fact Type ". I accept that there are other filter possibilities. For the numbers likely to be involved, I am sure I could run a query and amend manu...

Re: Search and Replace Plugin, filter on fact
Jane, Mike, A further thought on ordering Facts. I have noticed if I set a date at say 0150 and use "pre birth" etc for the Time Frame of a fact, Reports do not display the strange age note e.g. "(age -1711--1712 (!))" when calculated ages are requested in Report Options, a very nice feature. I'm st...

Re: Search and Replace Plugin, filter on fact
Mike, that works a treat narrowing down the Search Scope per fact type. Although still very useful, I suppose if I start to use method1 sources I will have less need for it. So my next suggestion is, and I don't expect this to happen: When the Search Scope is Source Records (SOUR), that could be fur...

Re: FH V5 not responding when loading
I would certainly try switching off Norton temporarily or if you are worried about virus go back to your old AVG which did not give you any problems previously (I found some years ago now that AVG was slow, but most of them are now with so much more work to do)! Because of the increased threats, I t...

Re: GEDCOM Between Various Programs
I might have been a little harsh on FTM 2014 before, if it is used a lot it is very viable in this "experiment". One sees reviews in "review sites" (often not very good) on about 10 different genealogy programs, but I have never seen any indication of how popular they are, how many sold, how many in...

Re: GEDCOM Between Various Programs
interesting stuff. From my very limited GEDCOM from FH these were my observations which tie in with the above: <> Legacy and Rootmagic. I noticed that both of these did not separate Attributes and Events, all Events(Facts) could be either, by include/exclude the description field (Attribute Value). ...

Re: Plugin - Change Any Fact Tag - suggestion
cheers Mike, all comments accepted. It will be interesting to see how other programs deal with Attribute vs Events. Of course a lot of my "data design" hangs around how things import/export, not necessarily how they best fit in my main program.

Plugin - Change Any Fact Tag - suggestion
Since moving from TMG I am in the middle of some empirical testing to see how different programs deal with Attributes vs Events, especially how they are treated re import/export GEDCOM files. However part of this testing is converting in FH Attributes to Events and vice versa. Hence the excellent pl...

Re: Search and Replace Plugin, filter on fact
Mike, re "selecting date fields + fact notes", yes I got a bit mixed up, but I suspect I should be suggesting "the ability to filter the fact/events type for Short+long and Distinctive i.e. as many fields as possible. Whilst you might not think it useful for my suggestion here, I think it would be f...

Re: Search and Replace Plugin, filter on fact
Jane, That works great while inside FH, but it does not seem to export the prebirth info to the GEDCOM, other than placing it at the front of the items. Fortunately Rootsweb trees just seems to list the items in the order of the GEDCOM, regardless of the date of the item (I generated an item without...

Search and Replace Plugin, filter on fact
tatewise - just a thought on your excellent Search and Replace. I have been comparing it with the Find and Replace function of TMG Utility http://www.johncardinal.com/tmgutil/findandreplace.htm I think your Search and Replace has features that the TMG utility does not, but one feature I cannot find ...

Re: V5 - 5.09 Update removed from computer
unless there is a simple solution I think you should advise Calico Pie and/or Norton. I don't suppose a virus could have been introduced in the download process?

Re: Remove last updated (CHANged) date from exported GEDCOM
thanks mike, those explanations are very helpful to me and hopefully others, from the "code snippet" you mentioned I would not have guessed what it did, the snippet makes more sense in a real situation, but then I still need to find time to understand the flow/structure of the way the code works. Wh...

Re: Remove last updated (CHANged) date from exported GEDCOM
run and tested on a test file and goes to Rootsweb trees perfectly, even better than before as all Changed dates do not show now. I checked out the code and I trust it was a simple change to an existing piece of code. Having got your example I might be able to amend for other purposes. But I have no...

Re: Remove last updated (CHANged) date from exported GEDCOM
thanks tatewise and Jane. I thought it would be a long shot. For me in the present I think a macro in notepad++ or MSword save > txt will be easiest, for the future I can experiment with Lua. At least as the file will be a copy, there is no problem of losing data. I noticed the problem on Rootsweb t...

Remove last updated (CHANged) date from exported GEDCOM
When I export a GEDCOM for displaying elsewhere (e.g. Rootsweb trees), the last updated (last CHANged) date often displays in a way that sometimes makes an entry confusing and is not needed for genealogical purposes. I could create a macro (notepad++ or even MSWORD and save as text) to remove the CH...

Re: Loss of gender choice menu in Property Box
what Derek says does make more sense. (We do not have a screen picture of your Main tab). There is a mention of NOT clearing empty fields here: http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downloads/latest-free-upgrade , but I think that relates to Unrecognised Data Fields (UDFs). I don't know if you can do it...

Re: Loss of gender choice menu in Property Box
I'm sure there must be an answer; is it the same for a new project, if not you could start again with a saved GEDCOM? If all else fails I suppose a reinstall might be worth a try. (I don't know if you can save settings, then reinstall just some of them). But before you did that did you try the - Men...

Re: floating property box never "goes behind" focus windows
yes, I had discovered your suggestion, but it is often useful to have a very large property box to get a complete "picture", and in that case the extended screen is wasted, but even so can be useful in that format, just have to close/resize the property box more often. another one to add to my wish ...

floating property box never "goes behind" focus windows
I am experimenting with screen layout. With FH stretched over 2 screens of different height, I find a floating Property box quite flexible. However it always seems to be "on top", even when not in focus. When the other windows are tiled there is no problem moving their focus, the one in focus goes "...

Re: display multiple Query Windows
jmurphy, thanks for those thoughts, - the report option is one I have already used, also allows for simple tick off sheet - I like the "save the results of one query to a Named List" pity it can't also float, but you can add the columns you need. However what I have managed to do is "stretch" my FH ...
