Re: d'Aboville numbering

yep, on the descendant narrative for example, choose Report Options and the main tab lets you choose the # of generations. I think you need to have a mix of playing with the options and reading the Help and "getting the most out of familiy historian". One good thing with the options, there is usuall...

Re: d'Aboville numbering

I've not used this plugin before but after a quick perusal, on running it seems to give a new window to "select records", choose one from the LH pane, click > to move to the RH pane , then OK, that gives a list of names in d'aboville order, quite neat, might use it myself now I know it's there. You ...

Re: Helping Family Historian

In the light of the recent announcement "The Master Genealogist to be Discontinued", other genealogy programs will now be in the spotlight, so it might be worth revisiting Jane's suggestion and links above and raising FH's profile relevant places. From my point of view, the more FH users there are, ...

EXCLUDE PLACes in Reports

I don't know if there is something obvious I am missing, but I cannot find a way to EXCLUDE PLACes in Reports or even to use shorter formats (except for more than 1 instance), although there is an option to ADD ADDResses. The only fix for this I have found is for narrative reports where the sentence...

Re: Standard v Custom GEDCOM

That looks good Mike, when my database is in better order I will try Family Tree Maker and it will be interesting to see if it will make a better fit to Ancestry.com trees, than Ancestrys own FTM, and Rootsweb Trees which usually takes nearly anything, somehow anyway.

Re: Connecting lines in Outline Reports in RTF v PDF

Thanks for those suggestions Jane. I don't think I am up to the report plugin you suggest, but will add it to my list! I have not seen another program with such an easy to use and flexible content selection and real time update as FH Diagrams, nothing comes near it, but I can't see how the diagram s...

Re: Standard v Custom GEDCOM

Mike, that sounds an excellent idea. Something that ideally should be built into the product, but the advantage of plugins is that they can be amended "on the fly" without a program update. I suspect that was partially done by FH with their Export to Family Tree Maker and Strict GEDCOM options, but ...

Standard v Custom GEDCOM

[This discussion continues from 11325|Plugin - Change Any Fact Tag - suggestion .] In my new enthusiasm for Attribute Facts I had forgotten that while Custom Events are standard GEDCOM, Custom Attributres are NON standard GEDCOM, or at best Gedcom Extensions which will most likely have problems with...

Re: Connecting lines in Outline Reports in RTF v PDF

Interesting stuff Mike, AutoShape is not something I am familiar with, but looks promising if Calico thought it worthwhile. I accept the current limitations of FH, my reason for export to RTF files is the possibility of subsequent editing that cannot be done/ produced by FH. I have tried a few PDF >...

Re: Plugin - Change Any Fact Tag - suggestion

After further research and chiefly because of the limitations of the data selection of Reports in FH (Outline in particular, an underdeveloped resource in most genealogical programs for this efficient report format) I can now see a greater advantage to using Attributes over Events, as I said: So the...

Re: Saving Report Options and not overwriting them.

Mike, David, thanks for those "possibilities", but like I said, all messy, but I now have a few options to play with. I'm surprised no one else has found this a problem, perhaps having found "mr right" there is not much need to change, it's just the initial testing that creates permutations. I suspe...

Connecting lines in Outline Reports in RTF v PDF

Conversion is often a problem, even with the "standard" RTF which I still use as the best safe portable format, but I have moved to docx for everyday use as the zipped nature of it is so so much smaller. It's a pity the connecting lines shown in the PDF file of the Outline report to not carry over t...

Saving Report Options and not overwriting them.

If I make amendments to the Report Options (say narrative descendants by generation), on closing I am not asked if I want to save the new Options, I seem to have no choice. This means that if you make changes you don't like, you have to remember what you changed and undo them all. This is fine if yo...

Table width problems on narrative export to rtf (word doc)

I think this has similarities to post 7652|Narrative reports - tabs http://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=7652&p=33804&hilit=narrative+reports+table#p33804 but as it is from 2007 I thought I should raise a new post, and my fix below might help with the original problem. Re: remove the preposition in a narrative report

David, Mike, thanks, also found the extra page.

Jane, very useful info, I don't know how good it is in a programming sense, but I just love the simplicity of data being held in structured text files, bit like a GEDCOM file really. Takes me back to my system testing days.

remove the preposition in a narrative report

I'm trying to remove the preposition (e.g. on) before the date in a narrative report. From http://www.fhug.org.uk/fhhelp/source/templatecodes.html#advanced I can see how to add one, but not remove. I note that PLACe can be used with/without a prefix but that for ADDRess you have to specify one if yo...

If you can find where the record is in the original document, it is usually on a page with many others, it might give a better indication of at least a "between" dates.

This might sound messy, and from other comments you might not need to do it, but might save you time in the long run. The orientation of your picture (say in an *.jpg) is determined in the EXIF info. The default seems to be Orientation = Top Left. If you view the picture or thumbnail and it is in th...

Re: Search and Replace Plugin, filter on fact

yes works a treat, by sorting on the Data Ref column in the results, it is easy to choose just 1 Fact type etc. It's a matter of remembering all the flexible ways FH queries/plugins can be used. One thing I have not fathomed out on the query results is how to select none-adjacent multiple items. Whi...
