Re: Viewing Gedcom with Android
Yes I had looked at that after looking at the "estimated alive at" query but I got some strange results (many BC, 900 etc, possibly due to my using dates like 0150 in order to sort some of my "admin" facts) so played around with the generation parameter, but not much better. I found using the "Ances...

Re: Viewing Gedcom with Android
Some Genealogy programs give the option of a sort date (not Gedcom standard though), in my case I used them a lot in TMG but they do not export, and of course FH does not have sort dates, even with a Gedcom Extension. So I have started using ESTimated dates to give some semblance of chronology, but ...

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window
kbella - note you have no reply yet and I have no idea. I've not come across it yet in FH, but in TMG I had similar situations and sometimes found it easier to "strip it down", and reconnect, even to deleting people/ families and re-keying (perhaps export then reimport, but that might reintroduce th...

Re: Places in Narrative Reports
In the Program help and the "getting the most out of Family Historian" search for "Place Formats". At present reports are limited to predefined "sets" which might suit some people, and although simpler in use, not as flexible as TMG. I have no idea of the validity, or time frames, but from the odd h...

Re: FamilySearch backing out of GEDCOM?
I recently noticed an item on this recently, sorry I don't have the link, the intimation was that LDS/FS was developing GEDCOMX and that it was effectively being partially used in FamilySearch trees (I'm sure Adrian knows more than I do). I was also interested because I also noticed that Simon Orde ...

Re: Default folder and settings for "Save as pdf"
best I can suggest is what I do with similar program defaults. I use a clipboard manager (I use ARSCLIP which is portable http://www.joejoesoft.com/vcms/97/ , but there are many more see http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-clipboard-replacement-utility.htm , with this you can keep your regular...

Re: add the same fact to multiple Individuals
Mike, I love automation and the above you suggest sounds good, "I can just see your mind whirring", but there are also instances where there is a need to at least check things manually as well. Just another related thought for your wonderful Search and replace. That it works from a Flag/ Named List/...

Re: Plugin editor crashing FH
David, I can only suggest you do a System Restore to before you had the problems, and then keep going back until it seems OK. If that does not work an Image restore might be on the cards (ideally on a spare drive in case your image/program is duff). I have occasionally had "system problems", especia...

Re: add the same fact to multiple Individuals
I suspect for many instances I will just use Flags/Named lists for speed, however I already use custom events for flagable type information. E.g. I have a "Root" EVENt for the Root persons for trees, this has structured text that can be filtered for various family situations, and the text field can ...

Re: add the same fact to multiple Individuals
Mike quick reply, when I say value that is "my" value in place of a flag, I would use the text/memo of an EVENt which I am sure can be filtered for, I'm sure I just did it on a custom EVENt I imported from TMG.
Terminology can be tortuous, but I agree very necessary.

Re: add the same fact to multiple Individuals
Jane, looks very interesting, probably too advanced for me at present, but I could probably manage to create a default Fact for everyone, then amend/delete as required from queries or search and replace, but that would not be anywhere near as slick as Flags/ Named Lists. Mike, Although ATTRibute is ...

add the same fact to multiple Individuals
Is there a simple way to add the same fact to multiple Individuals, say from a named list or a selection from a query or the individual records window, rather than copy/paste for each via the Property box. The reason I am asking this is because of the way FH uses Flags. In TMG a Flag can have a valu...

Re: MacOS or Browser program to import/ export Gedcom with F
Many thanks for those excellent responses, they all seem very viable, and, as with most things Mac they seem more expensive (I'll not repeat the discussions I have with my son!). For the moment it will not be "expert" genealogy, hence my desire for the data to be "portable" in the future. I was hopi...

MacOS or Browser program to import/ export Gedcom with FH
A family member wants to start keying up genealogy data but only has a MacOS 10.9 and does not not want to run a Windows emulator. I am fairly sure FH will not run on it but I want to advise her to run something that is good for sharing data with FH, ideally via Gedcom files. I have very little know...

badly spelt Jhon/ John, Ian
however as the other witness is a male it would traditionally be female - Alison
Can only suggest you find other Perretts from the area and compare.

Re: Remove last updated (CHANged) date from exported GEDCOM
BTW: Is RootsWeb WorldConnect a more correct name than RootsWeb Ancestry ? This is the link to the front page http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ which would suggest it is. This is of course Rootsweb supported I think wholly by Ancestry.com, not to be confused with FamilySearch Family Tree (I note Leg...

Re: Remove last updated (CHANged) date from exported GEDCOM
Mike, 2 rather rushed tests: <> Test 1 to Rootsweb WorldConnect Family Trees: - with a large GEDCOM, but fairly basic as just exported INTO FH from TMG, i.e. only basic Source info, NO Source text etc. - This worked fine, especially for the removal of Last CHANed date and time, which was my original...

I've never had a problem myself, I can only think it might be something to do with Windows authorities. For anyone else looking at this they might want info like which version of windows, are you running as an administrator.

Project version number in *.fh_proj
I note that in the file ..... \PROJ\Family Historian Sample Project\Family Historian Sample Project.fh_proj it gives 2 lines: [Family Historian] Version=5 Whereas my newly imported from Gedcom file from TMG shows: [Family Historian] Version=4 Is there any significance in that? Will there be features...
