Re: Sort siblings without parent(s)
As well as the above options I create Male UNKNOWN and Female UNKNOWN (or the best info you have) parents, this then simplifies many situations.

news item linking Calico Pie and MyHeritage
Just noticed this http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20141124005291/en/Family-Historian-Genealogy-Software-Integrates-MyHeritage-Matching#.VHMdc4tv74Y which is to be expected with FHV6 imminent. I have had little experience of MyHeritage before but have a contact who shares their tree with me and...

Re: Family Historian 6 - 9th December
In that case I might forward the link to Dick Eastman, surprised he hasn't spotted it already, or perhaps I missed his report.

Re: Family Historian 6 - 9th December
Has there been an official (rather than the beta forum) date announcement for V6? If not I presume we are still tied to the confidentiality clause. I have not noticed any announcements on sites like Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter http://blog.eogn.com/ . If it should be public knowledge those ...

Re: The "Ireland" question
I would go with the "name at the time" to fit in with the "cultural/actual historical" and the lat/long for precision. I might also add a note for alternative current names, but how long will it be current!

Re: Using Ancestry's Family Tree and Family Historian
NSK, I concur with mezentia, but as Ancestry trees have problems with "notes" (by their own admission) I also upload a simple gedcom file to their sister site Rootsweb, this seems to take any old gedcom and display it all, and fast. I also leave a note on Ancestry that there is a better copy on Root...

Re: database engine
Linda, I too have come from TMG, fairly easy for me as I tried to use only "gedcom exportable" features in TMG. As there is now an official release date for FH6, it might be worth waiting for that to do your "final" import, especially as it will include witnesses and an updated TMG import routine, a...

Re: FamilySearch backing out of GEDCOM?
I don't particularly want to resurect this topic but I found the following interesting: http://www.tamurajones.net/GEDCOM5.5.1IsntADraft.xhtml from this page http://www.beholdgenealogy.com/blog/?p=1424 . Effectively it is saying that although Gedcom 5.5.1 was never officially released, FamilySearch ...

Is it possible that all the standards have been deleted? Is it possible to "reinstall" the standard setup (aoso all of FH)?

Re: Support for Witnesses in V6
Apologies for not replying sooner but I have been in the USA for 3 weeks. What Mike says is fine. I think there have been other forum questions re this and I don't think it is possible to produce a report, just a query, however the results of a query can usually be exported to rtf, excel, pdf etc. A...

Re: TMG to FH - Vista Problems
Assuming the FH trial database works OK on Vista, and it is just the direct import that does not work, in which case there could be some "quirky" difference between Vista/Win7, definitely do as Mike says. Have you tried a GEDCOM import? (Although the direct import is generally favoured). Are you sur...

Re: MacBridge for RootsMagic
for info: http://blog.eogn.com/2014/09/09/genealogy-software-review-macbridge-for-rootsmagic/ From his other reviews/ comments I suspect Dick Eastman is both a Rootsmagic and Mac user, but I don't think his article adds anything else to what has been said. I use neither, but I was tempted by Rootsma...

Re: Tmg to FH missing sources
Well worked out Mike, and I hope there is a fix on the way, but if raywigz does not want to wait for a fix, my "test" might be all he needs, it depends how important a Standard TMG (FH Gedcom?) "Note" is to him. As I mentioned before, there seems to be something none standard re the TMG "note".

Re: Support for Witnesses in V6
Whilst it is an open secret (promoted by Calico Pie) that, FH V6 will include witnesses, I have seen no further details. Calico Pie are well aware of the situation with TMG, hence I suspect the official rumour. You will note the later FH V5 updates have been updated to import Witness info from TMG, ...

Re: Tmg to FH missing sources
I am not as expert re Gedcom as others, but as mentioned above my experience with TMG was that what you have for NOTE being a Gedcom NOTE is correct, it is just that I found when exporting to other programs/websites NOTE was very hit and miss as to how it was treated, whereas I found if I just used ...

Re: Tmg to FH missing sources
Is this just on a "Note" tag, and do other EVENt tags with sources import OK? From my past experience, not just with TMG, although a Note tag seems like an EVENt, it behaves differently on Gedcom export (I don't know if you are doing direct or Gedcom import to FH), in consequence when I used TMG I d...

Re: Seaching Multiple Projects
I remember the debate in TMG, separate projects or separate datasets within 1 project, the latter, as you are using, being the preferred method. However I found that it required a lot of maintenance for those individuals that appeared in multiple datasets (as I suspect you will if you use separate F...

Ahah It's a new install on a new computer. Has it ever worked successfully on the new computer? Does it happen on the sample project? Have you tried creating a new project? Not sure if these will fix your problem (they both seem related), but might give you some ideas. 1. "long length notes or memos are being chopped". This is an old problem importing Gedcom files from TMG to many programs/websites, especially if these are from ATTRibute like Tabs in TMG, don't know ab...

Re: GED File Corruption
I doubt the virus checker would do it, otherwise most programs would have a problem. Does it happen every time, if it does another possibility is one of your files being read only or somehow restricted. Is it the same with another project, or a new one. If it does not happen every time it points to ...

I'm sure other people might have specific suggestions, but it sounds like another program is holding the dataset, the usual culprits are "real time" backups/syncs like dropbox.

Re: Viewing Gedcom with Android
Mike, I'm suspecting your
cannot be done at present. However, I did my test of using a copied Gedcom file, stripped of potentially offending date data, and this seemed to work much better.allow the EstimateDate functions to ignore "sort" dates, then a valid date range needs to be defined in FH

Re: Viewing Gedcom with Android
Thanks Jane; yes I did consider the fact time scale and it works very well within FH, but I wanted even more control. Also I'm not sure how it would import to other programs, I suspect that as long as it is in the right position in the Gedcom file it might be OK, but some sites/progs put "no date" f...
