find Fact Notes, Text from Source and Source note with a last blank/empty line
I am trying to find Fact Notes and Text from Source and Source Note that have a last blank/empty line. Easy enough to find any blank line with 2 enters (paragraph marks). I can do this directly by editing the Gedcom file in notepad++ (find replace) as the CHAN record seems to come directly after the...

Re: AS - Marriage, how do I override a parent with someone else?
Thanks again, I will experiment on a copied project. At present I am inclined to use the "wrong" parent in AS and then copy/delete any facts to the "documented" parent. I suspect in most cases it will just be the occupation.

Re: AS - Marriage, how do I override a parent with someone else?
Thanks for the info, so that suggests I create/add a 2nd parent, presumably I can "detach" again later or just leave or use the "wrong marriage parent" and swap any facts afterwards to the documented father.

AS - Marriage, how do I override a parent with someone else?
This seems a simple question and I'm surprised I have not come across it before, so I suspect I am having a senior moment! Marriage, how do I override a parent with someone else? I can overtype the parent but the ID stays the same and if I go to the new person in the drop down list, the select butto...

Re: Report output to rtf files for monospaced fonts in tables not vertically aligned
I reported this to Family Historian support "rtf report monospaced fonts in tables not aligned #908527" who took more of an interest in it than I thought they would. After some tos and fros they "consider" it is a problem with MSWord or Libre Office. Despite that a RAW newly created Word document (d...

Re: Allow reports to split very wide tables dynamically
It would be a reasonably straightforward enhancement to AS to have it invert the grid so the column headings were displayed downwards... This is a way to keep all the info for one person together, it would probably need a lot more space, and using Landscape mode would probably limit to around 5 peo...

Re: Report output to rtf files for monospaced fonts in tables not vertically aligned
What would you expect Word to do with a long line like that? My point is that it is only the rtf output from FH that creates the problem, if it is copy/pasted into a new document, it does the alternative as you suggest, continues on the next line. and correctly aligned. I do not understand why FH o...

Report output to rtf files for monospaced fonts in tables not vertically aligned
This is an observation/fix on Report output to rtf files for monospaced fonts in tables not vertically aligned. I still use a monospaced font for Report tabulated output, e.g. Census. However, I noticed that when a *.rtf Report file is viewed/edited in various editors (e.g. MS Word 365 and LibreOffi...

Re: link to KB Customising V7 to use V6 (Simple) Style Sources
Maybe just add a bit to Helen's suggestion: Customising V7 display for Generic Sources to resemble V6 display. This makes it clear that it's just the display that is being customised and shows that it might be of interest to users who were familiar with V6, without suggesting that the customisation...

Re: link to KB Customising V7 to use V6 (Simple) Style Sources
But I think that still makes it sound as if the customisation is necessary in order to use Generic sources. It's not. Mmm I see what you are saying, I suppose even the original Simple implies that. I am trying to remove the confusion (previously in my mind) that Generic may be different to V6 (Simp...

Re: link to KB Customising V7 to use V6 (Simple) Style Sources
Lorna, yes I appreciate your "conflating two issues" point as I now appreciate that "pre v7 and Generic Sources" are the same thing. Hence my point: .. some references to Generic Sources should perhaps be amended to Simpler Generic Sources... to show there is a simpler way to add sources. So perhaps...

Re: link to KB Customising V7 to use V6 (Simple) Style Sources
Strangely, I feel apologetic for bringing simple sources up again! They are the same thing, Jim. Thanks for that clarification, I feel a little easier talking about it now! Indeed it supports the idea of a title suggesting a Customising method more pertinent. I still want to improve that title thoug...

Re: link to KB Customising V7 to use V6 (Simple) Style Sources
Helen, I think the docs details are generally great: [] Customising V7 to use V6 (Simple) Style Sources perhaps change to Creating more Simple and Quicker Style Sources (more similar to versions prior to FHv7) [] As stated in various posts on this topic, the new v7 sources can be offputting (they ce...

Re: FH not recognising changed image aspect ratio
Sounds a bit like a cache or similar problem, e.g retaining old versions somewhere. Have you tried deleting the image from FH, then re-adding it. If that solved the problem, then it would show FH is retaining old info. It might also be that if you are editing while FH is still open, FH might ignore ...

Re: Unexpected conflicted copy in OneDrive
In the early days of Onedrive, syncing was often a problem, and even now compounded by not having a 1 way sync, hence I do a 1 way sync of my masters to a duplicate folder and sync that with Onedrive, so that if anything goes wrong, my "master" does not get overwritten. I imagine that might not be v...

Re: Simple recording of sources and/or citations
Mike's comments above are as usual excellent. I think you have noticed Sources can get very complicated if you are being purist and/or using the new FH Templates+Rich Text. However, you ask for something SIMPLE. Fear not, if you can manage with simple text (i.e. without FH rich Text). On the link th...

Re: Another Findmypast 1921 census discount
Mark, I don't expect the taxpayer to subsidise my hobby, but I don't think the GRO should make us pay over the odds for OUR Data. How can the likes of Ancestry/FMP offer all those equivalent parish record marriages as part of the subscription when the GRO charges £7 (or thereabouts) for each marriag...
