Re: trovigo.com
Good point Mike, but even then I would keep going back until it was clean of the problem. Although time consuming to reinstall programs etc, the upside is that you might end up with a "refreshed" and faster PC/Laptop.

Re: trovigo.com
Bit late now, sorry, but just remembered what I do in this sort of situation. I cut my losses and restore my PC/Laptop from an image before I had the problems. That does of course mean taking "regularish" C:\ drive image backups which can be quite onerous and until I found Macrium Reflect Free editi...

Re: Mapping and Geocoding Woes
I was surprised at the "upper limit of 120 for the length for the text string following the PLAC tag ....", I checked my own data and only found 1 entry near that, so I experimented and made it much longer. FH seems to save and reload it OK. Is this one of those restrictive Gedcom standards that is ...

Re: Is The New v6 Map Featured Animated
If you come across one, please let us know. I suspect this will be a growing area and for the sort of thing you ask, you might have to look at specialist programs, so when you find one make sure you structure your data so you can export to it.

Re: Mapping and Geocoding Woes
Shiriki, There have been quite a few posts on Geocodes and PLACe etc recently, and I suspect many more to come. I suggest you do a search on Geocode and see which topics might help, in particular since FHv6. As Mike says, we might have to rethink our PLACE + ADDRess strategy if we are to take advant...

Re: Place/Address
Not sure if this would work with the new v6 PLACE records, but a simple text editor (e.g. Notepad++) might do some of it more quickly than via FH. Do a change for say , Preston (or whatever) to Preston , England, then find change repeat on required lines only. Although if you are up to it a Plugin l...

Re: Place/Address
John, If you look through the forums you will notice that historically there has never been a "right" way to use PLACe and/or ADDRess. You need to decide how it best suites your needs and anyone else you might want to share your data with. This FHUG Places and Addresses link might help: http://www.f...

Re: Best format of PLACe and ADDRess for Map Geocoding
Mike, thanks for the FHUG link which I had looked at but was a bit too detailed/structured for my needs, I wish I had that much detail or the time to key it. But the Source principle is very helpful. I think the "Export Gedcom File" or similar will be almost a necessity in future to save lots of dat...

Re: Best format of PLACe and ADDRess for Map Geocoding
BK, I know a few people update different trees manually, but that is the last thing I want to do, it takes me all my time to key up my wife's research (in fact way way behind), hence my desire for portability if I need the data elsewhere. At present, my main other programs/online, when I get around ...

Re: Best format of PLACe and ADDRess for Map Geocoding
BK, yes it is all one big compromise at the moment, especially as everyone is doing their own thing re geocoding. I did think of using PLACe for street #, street > country and then ADDress for details that would not go well with geocoding. That would have best of both worlds, geocoding outside of FH...

Re: Best format of PLACe and ADDRess for Map Geocoding
I have been playing around some more with various ideas for storing my PLACe info in the light of Geocoding. I hope this does not sound too unwieldy as I've rewritten it so many times in light of testing and new info. So I would be very pleased to hear of any comments or drawbacks to this idea, any ...

Place List - better Find and column Sort
Toolbar > Tools > work with data > Places > Place List > Find <1> The "Find" only finds a PLACe record that begins with the search, never elsewhere in the comma separated record, even if sorting is done on a different row. Even with reverse display order it still shows the same. <wish> To find recor...

Re: FH V6 My Heritage Hints
I think most people would be in agreement, it should be opt in not opt out. We will have to wait for the next update to see if it has changed. I presume Calico are aware of the concern. We do not know what agreement there is between FH and Myheritage. Would be interesting to see how it works with ot...

Re: Custom ID's
don't know if you can fix the import, but as regards the Custom Id. It is easy to delete a few or many via a simple All individuals query, amended for extra column of Custom Id (resides in Miscellaneous), run the query then just select the whole column (or the cells you need) then delete them all. A...

Re: Best format of PLACe and ADDRess for Map Geocoding
Not at all, indeed necessary if you want your PLACe info structured. See also the comments and links from gsward » 12 Dec 2014 21:51 . It seems so simple, but it is worth giving some thought to how you want to use your place/address info so as to best structure it. Even after all these years there i...

Re: adding Lat/Long, Standardised places +their Notes to Rep
thanks Mike, at least for confirmation. I mentioned Webside/CD/DVD report as being a good example because it seemed to encompass so much, well laid out and easy to browse, but still no detail re Place details. If that is all that is missing that's nice to know, but it would still be onerous to add t...

adding Lat/Long, Standardised places +their Notes to Reports
I hope this is a daft question, but now we have Latitude, Longitude, Standardised places and Notes for Places, how do we include them in reports? Diagrams yes, Queries yes, but the only way I have found to include them in say an Individual Report is in options by adding a new label in the Main secti...

Re: Best format of PLACe and ADDRess for Map Geocoding
Mike, if you were looking for suggestions for Map Life Facts, a nice enhancement would be to have dates (or sequence # + date) instead of symbols then connect them with a chronological arrowed line, then 2 or more people with different coloured/style lines on the same map to see if their paths cross...

Re: Best format of PLACe and ADDRess for Map Geocoding
Mike, thanks for those observations: <> I say "FH ...
