Re: Extra commas in PLACe field 10
Thanks Mike for the illumination, things have moved on since I last looked at this, especially as GEDCOM 5.5.1 is more accepted. I had not realised it had separate Lat/Longitude fields. That said, I have not found much on lat/long via web searches, more on individual products using standardized plac...

Re: Extra commas in PLACe field 10
... It would be particularly useful when sharing data for a location that had evolving names through history Yes as a "prime" source location for the lat/long data. However, for practical usage purposes, I don't think many other programs make use of it. I think I recollect TMG used to have it as a ...

Re: Extra commas in PLACe field 10
Why not use the lat and long fields for the coordinates. I think the lat and long fields you refer to are the FH "none standard Gedcom" PLACe record. For the present I prefer to use the 10 standard Gedcom fields as these are much more portable. One thing I have learnt is that if one creates an 11th...

Re: different font for AS Text Window
Nick, thanks for those comments. Neither are critical, but I know that sometimes a simple request can be difficult to implement, but others quite simple. Re the pasting, I was intrigued more than anything, I can only imagine it is something to do with CRLF etc and that by going via my default Notepa...

different font for AS Text Window
AS > Tools > Customise > Font. The chosen font seems to apply everywhere. I like to use Consolas Monospaced Font for the Text Window (I do not use Rich Text in AS), but this does not fit well in many other parts of AS and is inefficient of space, e.g. Options > General Settings > "Settings Folder" o...

Extra commas in PLACe field 10
I am looking at using position 10 of the GEDCOM PLACe record. I think this is the last comma delimitated position. Are there any implications if I have 1 or more commas in that field, i.e 11th , 12th commas etc. In particular in FHv7 and Gedcom files, but I am also interested in any other genealogy ...

Re: 1921 England Census
Yes, I have one that is incorrectly transcribed on nearly all censuses, but there seems to be more on 1921. It will be interesting to see if other "future" providers do a better job. So, as there are no other sites to check on yet, as well as those other suggestions: - sometimes just look for forena...

Not sure where to post this, but it seems like an "after the results" to the Plugin Rich Text font detection in the title of this post and until anything else comes along this is my workaround for: In the Note/Text from source etc box popout from Property Box, convert existing Rich Text to Plain Tex...

Re: Rich Text font detection
Just tested and works OK and I know this is a very early version. Up to now (as previously mentioned), to produce a similar but "over comprehensive" list I used: as part of my database "tidy up" routine I run the Plugin Search and replace (not the FH Find and Replace) select All records... , tick al...

Jim, if Paste Unformatted Text is not doing what it says then that is a fault in FH that should be reported. Jim, Bill, Peter, Mark: Would that feature also offer a way of fixing those erroneous rich text formatted Notes? I realise it would only be one at a time, but quicker than the current workarounds. Re: Plain Text Only setting
### EDIT - AHK script + attachment corrected #### I was experimenting with pasting and I noticed that even with Right Click Paste Unformatted Text, if there are "Unusual Characters" (I suspect not ANSI), it still ends up with Rich Text with e.g. <font="Segoe UI Symbol",,1>🍎</font>. However FH remove...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
I find that pasting in "tables" from sites is most inconsistent. For instance, of FreeBMD index entries and GRO index entries, I think one generally works and the other results in a mess. I very much doubt this is anything to do with CP's coding, and everything to do with the site's HTML and / or m...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
I'm not sure I understand your logic. Why would a 'plain text mode' user need to view the Raw Rich text? [1] I have found it the quickest way to quickly check if rich text is there (e.g. if one is not sure of a recent paste). [2] If using my method to locate Rich Text with Plugin Search and replace...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
That's because you are pasting formatted text if you are pasting from a website so it is working as expected. If you right click and choose 'paste unformatted text' then it will be plain text. I think the OP is suggesting this happens unexpectedly for them. Yes, that was my quick "accidental" way o...

Re: Plain Text Only setting
For me it is easy to replicate, I have just done it. Copy from say a website (their text is usually formatted) and paste into say a note or Source text. If one then does the usual Ctrl+Alt + double click it then shows rich text ticked.

Re: How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.
So to summarise, the 'merge' is not a strict merge but more of an amalgamation. i.e. Multiple Residence facts that have the same Place/Address but various Dates, Ages, Notes and Source Citations need to be reduced to one Residence fact with a FROM first Date TO last Date, discard Ages, merge the No...

Re: How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.
Jim, I'm not entirely sure what facts you need to merge. I thought you were just extending the Date Period (not the Date Range) of one Residence fact and copying the Source Citation from the Census Event. I have existing multiple Residence Facts for the same place, this could be from various Source...

Re: How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.
This then begs the question: Is there a quick way to merge Facts? At present I have to manually copy dates and sources and any notes.
Looks like editing the Gedcom file might be quickest and even easiest, but of course more dodgy!

Re: How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.
Many thanks for all those observations. I am fully aware of the issues of a date range for a place (or other facts) which might not be continuous and in reality one can only say they were there on certain dates. But practicalities and "seeing the wood from the trees" is also important to get a good ...

How to check missing censuses if Residence used instead of Census.
I have been combining Residence facts and their sources for the same Place/Address to a "date range" as a "seeing the wood from the trees" exercise. The logical next step would be to use a Residence Fact instead of Census , the source would still be a Census. I know there are the arguments as to whe...

Thanks, a few more hints and wrinkles: I like the [ ] which I have used in MSWord and other regex
[¶
·» ]+$
it also found many "trailing" tabs.
So it does it all in 1 command.

Re: find Fact Notes, Text from Source and Source note with a last blank/empty line
I did note this from my notes: ^ – When at the beginning of a pattern, it forces the pattern to match the beginning of a string $ – When at the end of a pattern, it forces the pattern to match the end of a string I should have "twigged" as I have often used ^ for beginning of a "line" Your $ inspire...
