Copy/ Duplicate a Named List
I've started making more use of Named Lists but cannot find a way to copy a list with its contents and in particular its columns and . I can run a query to list the contents, then add them to a new Named List, but that does not copy the Columns or settings. It looks fairly easy to do by editing the ...

Re: adding/changing/deleting "generic types" for selected Sources
After more looking/remembering! the quick way to delete ALL Generic Source Types is to use plugin Clean Unwanted Fields with just %SOUR._TYPE%

Re: adding/changing/deleting "generic types" for selected Sources
Thanks for the info Mike, why do I always forget the selected records and extra filters in your excellent Search and replace! So that either changes or removes the type. So that just leaves creating new ones and as you say in 15213|Mass Update of Source Data Fields "the problem is not exactly that t...

adding/changing/deleting "generic types" for selected Sources
I am reorging my Source "generic types". - One tool is the > Tools > Work with data > Generic Source Types. But this is a rather blunt tool and does not seem to delete the "generic types" from Sources, only change all. - I can change the Type with "search and replace" based on Source Records with "a...

Re: Source / Citation
Baboon281 there have been many posts with confused people re the new sources displays, all I can say is once you get used to it (I still use the old generic/simple v6 method), I find the new extra floating window, which can mirror the old v6 version, more productive, especially if you have more than...

Re: problem viewing landscape *.RTF reports in MSWord
Mike, OK, I don't know how but here is "how it is for me" - I have 2 similar custom narrative descendants reports, but separately saved. - Via REPORT Printer setup (above Save Report as) one is set to Portrait the other to Landscape - whatever I do elsewhere, as long as the report window is not the ...

Re: problem viewing landscape *.RTF reports in MSWord
Nick, interesting. It looks like there are 2 (at least) Page Setup situations. To make the report go to landscape I used Page Setup within the report, if I look at another report that may show portrait. At your prompting, I'm not sure why, but I changed the portrait/landscape from FILE > Page Setup....

Re: problem viewing landscape *.RTF reports in MSWord
When I looked, Print Setup was already on Landscape with default printer PDF, so I changed it to portrait. It then worked OK report still in landscape. So put Print Setup back to Landscape, and still OK! The original fault was the first time in v7 I have produced a report to rtf and perused it it in...

problem viewing landscape *.RTF reports in MSWord
Hope this not discussed before, but I can't find it! - I saved a Narrative Descendant Report (9 pages inc 3 pages source text) as PORTRAIT RTF and open in MSWord365 on laptop no problems. - I changed the layout to LANDSCAPE - Open auto in MSWord365, and the end is truncated, mostly the sources, but ...

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1
Adrian, I can see that, but for my "simple" methodology I would still add it as a source of info and attached to a fact to those individuals concerned, or if it was so generic/ broad, possibly create a john/Jane Doe so the source/note was not left floating in the "ether". For instance, I have not us...

Re: Note field Citations disallowed in 5.5.1
I thank you all for these explanations, to a problem I don't think I have ever had. In my "simplistic" methodology of Sources rule and they create Facts I don't see the need for the extra layer of these, what I think are, unattached notes. For me I just create a fact for everything, I have facts for...

I had not noticed that but here goes: r click show sources bottom left add citation add new generic source > gives an [untitled] source click on it and fill in via the new floating Citation panel. For excel I always use yyyymmdd or similar 1880-02-01, that at least sorts " out of the box", but of course does not work with date functions.

How Related - show the female Apex/common ancestor
This slightly relates back to 16659|Recording DNA matches in Family Historian "How related" report shows the Apex/common ancestor as the Male of a marriage/partnership. Now, especially when considering DNA connections, and in most other situations, surely the Apex person should be the female. In the...

Re: PDF of Reports coming out as image
I've not tried V7 yet, but even in v6 I always saved to rtf and then created pdf from there. That gives the chance to add more suitable page breaks and other formatting before final pdf.

Re: Change default opening Tab for Citation floating window
E - I was a little confused when I first looked at FHv7, but as with most software updates they often take time to get used too. My biggest complaint these days is that many "updates" just seem to add bells and whistles and pictures and lose functionality and displayed detail, I suspect because they...

Re: Change default opening Tab for Citation floating window
Yes Mike, many options, but like I say many aspects of Source/Citations are too complicated for me, so empirical testing is important to make sure I have got the right thing! Not forgetting backups or cloned databases. After reading Helen's link I have also added %SOUR.NOTE2[1]%. And in due course I...

Change default opening Tab for Citation floating window
I have finally taken to plunge to FHv7 although I do not think I will take advantage of many of the new features, but time will tell and the options are there, indeed, I find the new source "methods" far too complicated for my "keep it simple" methodology. Having said that I did not use many feature...

Re: Unwanted source information uploaded to Ancestry
I suspect this will not help with your hints but adding to syncing problems with Ancestry: I have struggled to get my "textual" Fact and Source data to display in Ancestry for years and have given up. Ancestry trees seem good for Ancestry items and your own images and now for their DNA thrulines. i....

I tried the above-quoted Plugin on the Sample Project in FH7 and it seems to work perfectly as is. Thanks for the testing Peter. Just glancing at that plugin, it will need some changes to work in FH7 (especially to avoid closing the whol eprogramme when you close the plugin). Thanks for the heads up, there are a few non "plugin store" plugins I use that will need checking as I move to FHv7 (Not sure whether I should wait unt...

Re: need to refresh/exit FH to update ALL session changes
I got a nice reply from FH support, "There are complex reasons of efficiency why Family Historian works this way with the Property box. If this is something you do regularly we recommend you use the All tab which does delete fields, or write a plugin to clean empty Address fields." They also suggest...
