Re: My personal thoughts on Templated v Generic Sources
An interesting topic. My concern is that the new FHv7 Source "methods" and all this "Technical" Genealogy talk may put people off recording their history or perhaps using FH in a more simple way. I can understand that "purists" (and there must be many flavours and interpretations) will want to follo...

Marilyn, join the club, Mike's links are excellent, and there have been a good few posts already. If you want to carry on as before, also similar to Ancestral Sources, even if you eventually take advantage of the new features, CHOOSE GENERIC. Take a look at these 19128|Source citation display. 19000...

Re: Putting captions on media files
Sorry to be late on this. Yes, Mike's irfanview option is one I've used in the past for bulk adding the filename to many pics (either over existing picture or extending the canvas/border). In my situation it was to add text to files before printing. For more precise and decorative detail, most image...

Re: Ancestry's 'new' hint system
As ever, with so many products these days, everything is geared to small screen smart phones, tablets etc and laptop/PC users have to contend with less info per page and never ending button pressing to and fro instead of having all the info on 1 page. There are still some PC friendly websites about,...

Re: Errors in display of Focus Window (V6)
I run a laptop with a HDMI connected screen and 2 more via USB3toHDMI connectors. I sometimes get that kind of display corruption and other problems on connected screens on some popout windows, mainy with FH and Memory Map, but also other programs. Never with things like MS Office. I suspect they ha...

Re: Change default opening Tab for Citation floating window
Kathleen, if you look at my instructions after HOWEVER, combined with the link from Helen, (and as Mike says follow carefully, i.e. simple but specific), that took me to being able to work just as I did in FHv6. With this procedure you can also add any other fields you regularly use, so in that way ...

Re: AS Font query
I use a Monospaced font for anything that needs column lining up without tabs. (Consolas is my current favourite as it looks reasonable and quite portable). I still don't, and probably will not, use the new FHv7 Rich Text, and I note "I'm not using Rich Text Support," so a monospaced font might work...

Re: How Related - show the female Apex/common ancestor
The only answer I have found is to add the apex female to the report. A bit of a pain, but the added advantage is it makes the Apex/common ancestor more obvious.
I think I was hoping for some solutions too, so next step would be to add to the wishlist.

Re: Autohotkey (AHK) "Productivity" shortcuts
Helen thanks for those links: notepad++ is my main text editor, mainly because it has the best I can find with a macro recorder/editor albeit very cumbersome and some useful plugins. MSWord is still good for macros if you are happy to paste in/out your text, NEVER saving as text as MSWord tends to "...

Re: Autohotkey (AHK) "Productivity" shortcuts
Helen, I am no programmer, but if it looks acceptable I am more than happy for it to be added. If it were, unless vetted by "an expert" in AHK, I think it would be better as an addition with the usual caveats (as in my post). All the instructions are contained in the script. I would also see things ...

Re: Hotkey to hide boxes in charts/diagrams
Helen, I suppose it is all a case of priorities. However, CP have produced many integrated shortcut keys, so I suspect it is not that difficult; is it a case of sitting down and creating them, and ideally giving more thought to Common Look and Feel (CLAF), there are so many inconsistencies including...

Re: Hotkey to hide boxes in charts/diagrams
Helen, you will note the download in my post 19150|Autohotkey (AHK) "Productivity" shortcuts includes the mentioned AHK code, along with some others. Autohotkey (AHK) "Productivity" shortcuts
I was hoping that FHv7 would bring some "productivity" navigation improvements, things like retaining popup window sizes+positions for a new session, more shortcuts and more Alt+letter keyboard jumps, but the only thing I have noticed so far is that window sizes+positions are retained for: - the new...

Re: Fact Add Descriptor confusion
Good tips Mike, I have all of those "exclusions" covered mostly by design and partly by chance. I do use ASSOciations which I believe is Gedcom compliant, but as you say is "not well supported by some products", indeed most products including FH.

Re: Fact Add Descriptor confusion
I think I am less confused in that it sounds that a Custom Fact acts like a Standard Fact, except it does it in a different way! The reason I like to get a grip on these things is so I can keep it simple and as portable as practical. So for that reason I will continue to use Custom facts without att...

Re: Fact Add Descriptor confusion
Thanks for that, I wasn't sure if it was a Gedcom thing or FH extension.
It just seemed strange that a Custom Fact should be treated differently; apart from not being allowed an attribute, I was under the impression they were the same as Standard Facts.

I'm confused! Using AutoHotKey Scripts just add this after the line: #X::Send !TL ; Win+X opens Tools > E'X'ternal File Links (Win+L opens Windows Lock screen) ; Diagram to hide a box. Ensure mouse pointer over box > Win+Z ; (you can leave Win key pressed while moving to others then hit z, L hand keyboard, R hand...

I still find the Google site search very useful for all of FHUG
see Forum Usage Tips
heading Extended Search for Keywords with Google Site Search
for some examples, you can then use all the features of a google search. I am not sure if the FHUG KB search finds things that google does not.

Re: Copy/ Duplicate a Named List
Mike, thanks for the confirmation, I had discovered the "copy and reload the column configuration" method, better than adding the columns 1 at a time.
I think my method will be to not delete any Named Lists but to rename and reuse them.
