Re: Enhancement to the Shared Autosomal DNA Diagram
I like the DNA painter table, as it seems a good empirical calculation of probable ranges for everyday use. I'm sure there will be a method to calculate these "probable ranges" but that is all they are. If you look at a simple case of siblings, theoretically they could be identical (not twins) or ha...

Re: Mimic FH V6 Source Citation Pane in FH V7
Yes, screen organisation is not easy with a genealogy program, I had the same issues with TMG and any other genealogy software I tried out. I suppose FHv7 has given us more things to play with, (although I use few of them), in a different way, and in consequence cluttered our screens even more. I ha...

Re: Sub-Forums in General Usage
Take a look here Forum Usage Tips near the bottom "Extended Search for Keywords with Google Site Search" I find this invaluable for many web sites not just FHUG. If you use it a lot you can add this extension to Chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/search-the-current-site/jliolpcnkmolaae...

Re: I can't get started
jemalong, my 2pennyworth on the old issue/problem in Genealogy of how to record Sources; for me it is to keep it simple but flexible. Yes FH V7 has added a lot of features that some welcome but others, myself included, find confusing, especially if you previously used the more simplistic Generic Sou...

Re: Grouping, Filtering or Searching Plugins
I am not sure it would be any kind of solution here, but I have started using AHK (Autohotkey) to save keystrokes (not just FH) with the help of key key/mouse recorder "macro creator". There is also the recent introduction by microsoft of "Power Automate", I have dabbled with checking emails, it sou...

Re: View my family historian data online
I use the free tree on https://en.geneanet.org/ . == It gives a simple but concise, no bells or whistles, view of all info on an individual on 1 page, and views like simple ancestry, descendants etc, very similar to the old Rootsweb. Plus options to print/pdf very space efficient trees. == You can l...

I have raised Support Ticket [#922677] to add detail to the Help,
Perhaps this should at least be added to the FH Help section for Product Support install/uninstall.

Re: New laptop and fh7
Thanks Mike. That is the FHUG Knowledge Base item I was looking at, but although it intimates deactivation is an important step, it does not actually say how to do it, or at what point, and I can't find how to do it on the Calicoe Pie site either. So I hope the above observations do the trick and it...

Re: New laptop and fh7
An opportune post as I also wish to move to a new laptop, but keep the old one, and deactivate FH from an older 2010 laptop. I have found various references to "deactivate devices" to allow use of a new 2nd device, but I cannot find out how to do the deactivation! How does one "reclaim that licence"...

Re: Autohotkey not working in V7.0.7
For info I have found that for some programs, standard autohotkey (AHK) does not work; e.g. everything search and ultrasearch, possibly because they themselves need to run as admin. This would concur with "According to Ros at CP, when FH restarts during upgrade, it does so in Admin mode". I think th...

Re: Plugin Editors -- another alternative (Visual Studio Code)
I am no programmer, at best simple scripting or "copy/butcher" other script/code. I have used Notepad++ for a long time now and serves most of my needs including a GEDCOM LEXER (a bit fiddly to instal). But when I came to do some simple scripting for Autohotkey (AHK) I could not find a Notepad++ Lex...

Re: how to remove the results of Integrated Word Processing
Helen, thanks for the confirmations and hints. Mark, funny you should mention Segoe UI, I noticed an unusual font in a similar fashion (might be Segoe UI, but I can't get it to repeat now) and just thought I might have selected it in the past and it had got stuck somehow! Mike, again thanks for the ...

how to remove the results of Integrated Word Processing
At present it is not my intention to use the new Integrated Word Processing, but somehow I think I have managed to get some: e.g. in my Gedcom file: 2 NOTE { 4 Sep 1918 6.50 am. Burial at sea 4pm same day. <clr="000000">Malarial Fever</clr> and 0 @S822@ SOUR 1 TITL Forces Record~UK WWI Pension Ledge...

Re: Convert Fact Note to linked Text from Source
Does this need a new topic? Mike, all interesting stuff. I'm sure your workaround would be useful down the line, but now I know; I will replace and avoid <> wherever I can, not just FH, probably with [] or () or {}, hope there is no problem with any of them! I think "characters to avoid" has cropped...

Re: Convert Fact Note to linked Text from Source
By George, I think you've got it! After more testing, the < does not work on any fact if it is at the beginning of a line, (not tested, but I suppose it could be any text, say Place) just that I did not use it much elsewhere. Tested both Death and Marriage without the < (I found a few) and all was c...

Re: Convert Fact Note to linked Text from Source
All of those I have checked, and to my knowledge they are all bog standard marriages+deaths. I have specifically checked one death created via an AS Burial. The interesting thing is the other Ω Note sources (age, place) are OK with "1 click", just not the Fact Note to Ω Note Source. death simkin.png...

Re: Convert Fact Note to linked Text from Source
Mike. I created gedcoms from FHv7 using option 1. Record Note 1 NOTE: Citation Note (ANC ) 2. also Record Note 1 NOTE: Keep Standard Tag (Std ) In terms of getting to view the note data I could not find any difference to my original FHv6 Gedcom. In terms of "1st click" on the source, they were exact...

Re: Convert Fact Note to linked Text from Source
OK, I do not have the Gedcom file I created for the upload to Ancestry, and I think is was from FHv6. So I will create a mini Gedcom with FHv7 to upload and report back then. [2] As you can see from my screen prints above, the non Death+Marriage only require 1 click on the source, with Death+Marriag...

Re: Convert Fact Note to linked Text from Source
After some more checking of my Fact usage, Marriage is the only one I can find that displays like Death. At first I thought it might be because Death had an extra "Cause" field, but marriage does not? So I suspect it is another of the many Ancestry.com inconsistencies! If you click Edit citation and...

Convert Fact Note to linked Text from Source
Not sure whether to put this in Plugin Discussions or General usage! I am trying to make my Fact Notes easier to view in Ancestry.com trees. The Export Gedcom File plugin offers: Record Note 1 NOTE: Citation Note (ANC ) This does the business, but Ancestry makes it difficult to find the Note detail....

Re: Property (& Citation & ?) Box "Width"
This may work
just use the Windows 10 Win+arrow key (Left or Right usually works) giving half a screen, then choose something else for the other half.
Also very useful if you have 2 or more monitors.

Re: My personal thoughts on Templated v Generic Sources
If AS did not exist, I think I would take advantage of the new templated sources; customised for my simple method. If I have a regular source type (say headstone) I think I might find it useful to create a "cut down" custom template, if for nothing else than to make it easier to create a standardise...
