Re: Reversing a Place Name
Can you explain the reasoning of using the double comma? From the other post examples England, , Greater Manchester, Bolton, Westhoughton:Chequerbent, Brancker Street, 51 England, , Lincolnshire, Lincoln England, , North Yorkshire, Richmondshire, Leyburn, Market Place, , Bolton Arms, DL8 5BW USA, N...

Re: Reversing a Place Name
With AS, with {PLACE} in the Title Template, it will create a Source name of whatever you enter in the Place field. I suspect you may want this to sort things more easily so you may like to check out my take on PLACe structure convention see https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=18258&h...

Re: Reversing a Place Name
Have you tried Mike's Search and Replace plugin with LUA Pattern Mode for swapping parts. You can decide to reject each change if you do not like the outcome. If you are competent with Plugins a similar LUA pattern should work.

Re: Query: count of multiple name occurances
try this, gives lots of columns including up to 4 alternate names, just add extra alt name columns if you want more.
Edit - P.S. for count, show your name columns in reverse order, then sort them all "desending", that should group similar count of names together.

Re: Customize Property Box Tabs - queries, Census, PLACes and Occupation
....sorting the facts in the Fact Tab by clicking on the Fact heading ... Residence, Occupation, etc., all fall together then. Yes a nice little sorting tip except it sorts the whole line and not by date, so that all the Laborors come before Weavers. I think TABs come in useful when there are many ...

Customize Property Box Tabs - queries, Census, PLACes and Occupation
Customize Property Box Tabs seems to be in vogue at present, so it got me to thinking: [1] Is there a way to copy/repeat an item in a TAB? The best I have come up with is to Export the TAB, then use a text editor to copy/paste/amend the lines and adjust the count and item numbers etc, then reload an...

Re: Export Gedcom File - Ancestry - Tips
Ah, but my view is with research, data, old pictures etc, the more they are shared, the more for posterity! To me an accurate simple tree is good, but the sources, pics, historical context etc etc make it interesting.

Re: Export Gedcom File - Ancestry - Tips
By design, it omits media, sources, and notes, but do these actually add value on Ancestry if it is just for these purposes? If you need the full-fat version of your tree, you will have to go via the separate steps described, but it is a lot more complex. Despite my reservations on Ancestry trees, ...

Re: Export Gedcom File - Ancestry - Tips
no probs, nice to be insightful! just thought it might be a bit of an explainer as to why Ancestry trees is good, but is also such a pain. If anyone is interested I could detail by updates for Ancestry trees, but probably relates to my data structure and my utilities.

Export Gedcom File - Ancestry - Tips
As an aside to the 20488|Export Gedcom File - Ancestry thread; my 2pennyworth. Uploading to Ancestry trees is a pain, in many more ways than I will detail here. Although most detail is uploaded (with or without Mike's excellent Export Gedcom File ), even if you know where the detail is, it takes man...

Re: Better way to exit a plugin early
It won't work if FH5/6 because goto isn't supported in Lua 5.1, but that's unlikely to be a problem for you. That is interesting, I noticed when I was searching here http://lua-users.org/wiki/GotoStatement "A goto statement was added in Lua 5.2.0-beta-rc1 [6] [1] and refined in 5.2.0-beta-rc2" and ...

Re: Better way to exit a plugin early
Thanks for those suggestions.
- The error ended the plugin, but without a message?
- the if ... then ... else ... end worked but added an extra nest
- the return seems to be the simplest which I think I will keep,
- although I do like my goto.
I still wonder if there are any issues using goto?

Better way to exit a plugin early
I have this piece of code that lets my plugin finish early if the fhMessageBox "No" is clicked. It works fine but I was wondering if there was a simpler more elegant way to finish direct from the fhMessageBox . In my decades ago basic coding goto s and labels were a staple, but I get the impression ...

Re: Plugin to remove all ADDResses attempt
Yes, thanks for reminding me of those links and simple explanation of the "i" bits. I think doing a simple task "from scratch" that I will find useful has given me more confidence. It is feeling a bit more like my MS VBA "tinkerings" and for me a big step up from basic scripting, now all I need is t...

Re: Plugin to remove all ADDResses attempt
Thanks, that works fine. So to overcome the MoveNextSpecial limitation/problem, instead of 1 loop we split into 2 parts. I did a Notepad++ compare of before and after with no unexpected changes (just 2_ADDR and TIME) So, next tasks: - Study the for i, itype, ipairs etc (I suspect a start from scratc...

Plugin to remove all ADDResses attempt
I have finally got around to creating a simple Plugin to remove all ADDResses. I know there are workarounds, the Rearrange Address and Place Parts Plugin and simply listing them in a query, selecting then deleteing. But it is about time I at least attempted something simple. My attempt here is based...

Re: export GEDCOM file plugin, link to individual record rich text not all removed
The "I don't know where it came from" _FMT 1 lines have been discussed before, for me and other users we have not requested Rich Text and it does not seem to be after all NOTE/CONT lines, just a lot of them. Perhaps they were introduced on conversion from v6, or after running a plugin, something I c...

Re: export GEDCOM file plugin, link to individual record rich text not all removed
I got a very positive reply from family historian support <support@family-historian.co.uk> , see below. However their method to remove Rich text does what I wanted previously, even removes all the "I don't know where it came from" _FMT 1 lines. Ironically I have started using Rich Text for internal ...

Mike, thanks for the explanations. For my purposes I could easily remove the Record: "" if I felt it was needed, and nice to know the FH GEDCOM default export is still FHv7 format.

export GEDCOM file plugin, link to individual record rich text not all removed
I am experimenting with using some rich text, in particular Add link to individual record . I have tried exporting to remove the rich text, mostly it works as well as expected in the FH export GEDCOM file . However, with Mike's export GEDCOM file plugin bits of the rich text remains when using Add l...
