Re: Another Findmypast 1921 census discount
I have not looked at the details that closely but how come the 1950 USA census is provided FREE to all, even by the likes of Ancestry, scanned and OCRed so transcription will not be as good, but will improve. A quick search gives https://www.archives.gov/research/census/1950 I mostly blame the UK-GR...

Re: FHUG Searching
Helen, an excellent and informative post. And, together with other explanations in this topic has certainly enlightened me, (including using other search engines than Google!) and will help me use search engines more productively. I brought up the Extended Search for Keywords with Google Site Search...

Re: FHUG Searching
Is this correct? If I use the handy-dandy 'Search the current site' extension in my browser (which uses Google) I get results from both the KB and the forums if I start at fhug.org.uk... So I'm thinking the fix to the advice is simple. Or am I missing something? Mmm, interesting, just done some mor...

Re: FHUG Searching
re the section "Extended Search for Keywords with Google Site Search" I think I did the original in the old KB system, and It might have been amended since. I do not think I have edit ability anymore and I did struggle with what I did then. However, there probably needs to be a proviso as I have hav...

Re: FHUG Searching
I like your analysis, tools like search, sort etc are very important productivity tools, and so worth discussion and your options are illuminating. I suppose for many people it needs to be simple. However, I regularly use historic Forum posts to "solve problems" so an advanced or alternate search ca...

There have been a few posts on the complicated issue of DNA recording over the years, which I think overlaps with MRCA , this might give some ideas.

look at setting up some in Power Automate which is now free from Microsoft. I have yet to dable in Power Automate, which has not been detailed much within FHUG, but there is also AutoHotKey (AHK) detailed here in the FHUGKB: AutoHotkey and some topics including this: https://www.fhug.org.uk/forum/v...

Re: Is there a way to stop/pause the CHANge time being updated.
Jim was a bit ambiguous in his quesstion. Did he mean most recently added individual, or most recently modified ? Over to you Jim :D Very much most recently modified. However , sorting by Record ID may work as a fallback in many situations, especially when entering new branches. So thanks again, I ...

Re: Is there a way to stop/pause the CHANge time being updated.
Thank you for all those answers/ ponderings. So it seems to me that to try to "fix" this minor annoyance may create more problems than it solves and possible Gedcom errors.
I suspect the only efficient/accurate way to do it would be if FH had an option to turn on/off CHANge updates.

Is there a way to stop/pause the CHANge time being updated.
I have noticed when I run some plugins (possibly all) that update a record, the individual shows an "Updated/CHAN" time. This is what I would expect. Is there a way to stop/pause this "blanket" CHANge . The reason being that it is often useful to view one's most recent individuals via the Records Wi...

Re: Is it possible to add 2 or more sources to a fact at the same time
.....this can be done via the All tab.... And another little gem for the ALL tab. That goes say 1/4 way to my question, perhaps set up a dummy individual with regular combinations like I mentioned above. I note that this technique also works for other fields like Date, Place etc. Another trick for ...

Re: Is it possible to add 2 or more sources to a fact at the same time
Mike, yes, I accept the limitations would have to be for simple "sources", but even then I suspect one could revisit the source with a single click to add extra detail (Where Within etc - apologies if I have got this bit wrong as I use many individual Sources rather than Citation-specific within a S...

Mike, thanks for the explanation, and that might be why it is not "permitted", but I was hoping that for simple "sources" I could add more than 1 at once.

At present, I select a fact (Facts or All tab) > Add citation > Cite existing Source
From here I cannot find a way to select more than 1 source. Shift or Ctrl with click or scroll just selects 1 Source.

OK, I did use FH Place rather than PLACe, but to be more clear, I don't make use the FH non/extended GEDCOM features as in e.g. _PLAC, 1 STAN, 1 NOTE.LornaCraig wrote: ↑03 May 2022 10:48I'm not sure what you mean by this. Anyone using FH V6 or V7 can't avoid using Place records.

Re: Addresses and commas after house numbers.
Looks like I should be OK with 8 elements, but most likely will end up with some unused elements in the place field and will have to be careful with counting commas during my data entry. This strategy comes with commitment to make regular use of the Tools > Work with Data > Places window to maintai...

My approach, which covers this scenario is to place house numbers after the address. i.e High Street, 54 . If you would like to take this a BIG step forward you could reverse the whole Place/Address then it sorts "out of the box", you may like to check out my take on PLACe structure convention see ...

Re: Data Entry
looks like you have downloaded the same plugin twice, your browser will add the "-1" so you don't overwrite the original. When you load to FH I think it uses the file name for the plugin, hence your duplicate.
If you try to edit the 2 plugins they should look identical, if not, ????
