I overlooked that comment. What other record types can have citations?
This is what I have now:

Code: Select all

  local recordsWithSources = {"INDI", "FAM", "OBJE", "NOTE", "_RNOT"}
Thanks

Re: Iterating over a source's citations

The database I am converting is from Ancestry.com by way of FTM to GEDCOM. I'm using it because it is the most complete I have. I have done preliminary work to split many of the lumped sources, e. g. split a census decade into census households for that decade. For the census records, that approach ...

Re: Iterating over a source's citations

Thank you Mike for your suggestions. I will incorporate them. I thought it prudent to have someone else look at the code early on. Having someone with your expertise -- even better! I will probably keep the test of fhHasChildItem(pi) and add an else clause for when a _FIELD child needs to be added a...

Iterating over a source's citations

I am working on a plugin that converts generic sources to template sources. Once the conversion of source records is complete, the citation references also need adjustment. There may be insertions of _FIELD items. In many cases, it is necessary to parse the contents of PAGE items. I'm wondering if t...

Re: FH 7 and Citation Specific Fields

I have a feeling that this issue may arise anywhere where the ESM-style template refers to a Lumped or Type 2 Source. The behavior I expected is influenced by my experience using source templates with other genealogy software. Typically templates will have some fields (whether optional or required)...

Re: Sample plugin for converting sources to use templates

I'm still trying to understand what the benefits are vs the cost of reduced portability with other genealogy programs. Yes, portability is certainly a concern when it comes to the handling of sources. I use 3 other programs (in addition to FH) that each have a different scheme for source templates....

Hi Shosh,
I am a splitter, but I know of a few sources in my GEDCOM that fall in the lumper category.

Re: Sample plugin for converting sources to use templates

Thanks Mark, for offering to share your code.
It sounds like parts of it may overlap with my needs.

I've been looking at existing plugins to get ideas and learn a little Lua. This kind of plugin is very specific for each of us, so there won't be any generic solution.

Sample plugin for converting sources to use templates

I'm considering converting my database sources to use Advanced templates. I thought I would try to convert the easily recognizable source types, one at a time. The others I may just change manually. I have a rough idea about how to do this, but it would be helpful and time saving if there was some s...

FH 7 and Citation Specific Fields

Hello readers, Like many of you, I have been getting up to speed with the tectonic shift from FH 6.2 to 7. Re: Split GEDCOM lines at 70 characters?

Thank you all for your replies. Enabling word-wrap in the text-editor is OK, but I had hoped for a formatting option at the GEDCOM level. I suppose this is just a personal preference. My GEDCOM review is mostly looking at the file's tag hierarchy and which tags does the data get assigned to. I'm als...

Split GEDCOM lines at 70 characters?

Hello, I think I have exhausted the help file and knowledge base resources on this. It seems to not be possible but maybe the community can suggest a way. Re: Evidence Explained citations

I had some time to do further testing. Using SOUR.DATA.NOTE2 for citation data, does create issues with third party applications. Re: Evidence Explained citations

Mike, yes, labelled notes look promising. Do you know if they will work if the field spans multiple lines (using GEDCOM's CONC)? Re: Evidence Explained citations

Re: Creating UDF items in standard record

I posed the question regarding EE citations in General Usage to see if there is a broader interest. I'm not sure how much interest there will be.

For now, I have a simple plugin that works using a GEDCOM primed with the UDF tags.

Re: Creating UDF items in standard record

I would expect that using AUTH and PUBL for this purpose, would break other GEDCOM reporting tools that aren't as flexible as FH. I believe the common behavior is to concatenate these three fields in reports: [AUTH] [TITL] [PUBL], sometimes with various punctuation added. If I use those tags to carr...

Re: Creating UDF items in standard record

A while ago I did post the query Entering Evidence! Style citations to get some feedback. To avoid breaking that which ...
