Re: Citing the Times Digital Archive
Thanks for the comments Adrian and Helen. I was interested to see that Helen writes her entire citation within the title. It certainly allows you to do it your own way. However, for me I can see a problem as I sometimes produce reports with reduced citation references by excluding the content (Text ...

Re: Citing the Times Digital Archive
Still dithering and trying to put together the suggestions above! I have no difficulty including all the information that I have within a source record and so basically all that matters is how is looks as a citation in a report. So I examined that a bit more closely. My latest effort is to ditch the...

Re: Citing the Times Digital Archive
A lot of good ideas here and as Adrian says we each have our own way of doing things but it is instructive to see how others do things. I have tried using the Repository Note and agree it gets rid of the Call Number label, which is good, but in a report the Note starts a new line after the Repositor...

Re: Citing the Times Digital Archive
Thanks both. I think I'm getting there. I already have a Repository link on the Main tab of the Source Property Box and have now added a line for the Call Number and the Media Type (although frankly the choices for that are very restrictive). The source below is a sample of a Death notice. I would u...

Re: Citing the Times Digital Archive
Thanks Mike and Lorna. I was leaning towards Method 1 when I discovered that I could download the pages. I have a favoured format for short title so I can locate sources for an individual but the title can be much more standard descriptive of the source. Setting up a respository record here makes se...

Citing the Times Digital Archive
I have just gained access to "The Times Digital Archive, 1785-1985" via my membership of Cornwall County Library and I suspect that eventually I will have a number of citations. So before I get started I would welcome suggestions as to how make the citations. My initial thought was to use a Method 2...

Re: iup.GetParam boolean
As you say that is cunning. I have to say, as an absolute newcomer to callbacks, that for me the most exciting thing was being able to change the font size. My eyes have been suffering with the default 9 pt fonts.

Re: iup.GetParam boolean
Thanks again Mike, I didn't think of adding a global variable. I think it needs to be set up at the initialisation check of the dialog to ensure it's value matches the current dialog title.

Re: iup.GetParam boolean
A slightly more general question about iup.GetParam checkboxes. I have written a plugin to help me to go through all the citations in my file to edit all the errors that have crept in via import/export. I am using iup.GetParam for the edit screen and just before the OK/Cancel buttons I have a check ...

iup.GetParam boolean
Just a curiosity. I was playing with the various options with iup.GetParam to try to get some feel of it and I came across the follwing. Using the %b option with no extra [Yes,No] or whatever the result when checked is to return the initial value res, boo = iup.GetParam("Title", nil,"Tick: %b\n",100...

I have been following this thread with interest and I have finally tried the query on my file and there were way too many results and the reason is that large numbers of my census returns were taken in small villages where the individual houses did not record any form of address other than possibly ...

Re: How to split or copy an individual
I have hit this same situation a few times and tried the options mentioned by Peter, John and Mike. I am trying to sort out a current situation in which I have children who need to be divided up between two families where the parents have the same names are roughly the same age and lived in the same...

Re: Full Backup per project several times a day.
I don't use FH to make backups but looking at the process I would suggest one possible way forward is to remove the time when the save box comes up and then if there is an existing backup on that date you will get the overwrite or not option

Re: Screen size issues with scroll bars
There seems to be a cusp point here. In the screen shot I posted there is no activity on the side scroll bar. After a very small increase in the size the arrows are still invisible but the scroll bar becomes active and you can scroll through the sources, a little bit more reveals the arrows. An extr...

Re: Screen size issues with scroll bars
Yes I am getting this disappearance of arrows with multiple sources. SourcePane.JPG There are three birth sources here and a further slight expansion of the source pane is required to show the arrows. But most of the spouse details and all the children are not visible. However I am not using default...

Re: Screen size issues with scroll bars
Not offering a solution but I have no difficulty replicating the problem as per screen shot. However, my normal practice, as Jane suggested, is to have the source pane on the right and the property box undocked when working in it, so this doesn't arise.

Re: Spell checking solution?
I use Notepad++ which has significantly more facilities than Notepad and like FH has plug-ins to extend the features, spell checking being one such. It also includes syntax highlighting and folding for a variety of languages. On the rare occasions when I write a long plug-in I copy the text into Not...

Re: Changing a childs father record.
One possibility, assuming the child is linked to the biological mother and a non-biological father. You should first, if necessary, create a new family with the biological father and biological mother, i.e. link the biological father to the biological mother as another spouse. Link the child to this...

Re: Plugin Help
Ron you need to use both type of inverted commas so that the interpreter recognises the string delimiters - looks confusing on the forum. An alternative would be to use double square parentheses as string delimiters
str=string.gsub(str,[["]],[[]])

Check out the Lua Online Reference Manual
http://www.lua.org/manual/5.1/manual.html#5.4
the string.gsub should do what you want
str=string.gsub(str,'"','')

Re: Plugin Help
Not quite sure what is gruesome. I frequently work with two plugin editor windows open and cut and paste from one to the other. I use Windows to split the screen like so.

Re: Plugin Help
Yes, sorry, you can only have one Plugin Editor window open at a time Sorry Mike. It is not possioble via the Plugin Editor file menu but it is possible via the Tools>Plugins dialog box. Using the More>> button you can open as many as you like, or create new ones, without closing the existing ones....
