Property box not synchronizing

I am having a problem with the property box not synchronising with the current record selection as I change views. I am mostly using the Records window and switching between the Individual, Sources and Media tabs. In each tab I will have a selected record and docked property box. I may be having a s...

Re: Sorting by surname to include married names?

To explain the formula: The TextIf checks to see if the last listed Spouse Family contains a "husband". If it does then the first expression is shown, i.e. the surname of the husband %INDI.FAMS[Last]>HUSB[1]>NAME[1]:SURNAME% If it does not contain a husband then the second expression is shown, i.e. ...

Re: Sorting by surname to include married names?

Trying to find a person's surname at any given time is tricky. It is possible to produce a column which shows either the final married surname or the birth surname. =TextIf(EXISTS(%INDI.FAMS[Last]>HUSB[1]>%),%INDI.FAMS[Last]>HUSB[1]>NAME[1]:SURNAME%,%INDI.NAME[1]:SURNAME%) In this reference if you r...

Re: Focus Window/Spouses & Children

I'm assuming you mean the down arrow next to one of the children (could be more than one if there has been marriages of cousins further down the line). This denotes that said child is a direct line ancestor of the root person. Clicking it, or indeed any of the icons in that column, simply changes fo...

For the first result - all individuals with at least one media linked directly to them - create an individual INDI query excluding all individuals for which %INDI.OBJE[1]>% is null. The second result, all media directly linked to individuals, can be obtained without a query. Click the Media dropdown...

Re: Ideas for Naming and sorting custom queries?

Mike is right about the consistent naming but sometimes you have a small number custom queries which you use regularly and you want the name to "jump right out at you". For these I add a $ sign (any other non- alphanumeric would do) to the front of the name which puts them up to the top of the list ...

Re: Delete Confirmation Dialog

I suspect the variations are due to some deletes being make by the system and others internally by FH. You could change the system sounds scheme to No Sounds which will then apply to all software. In Windows 10 type "system sounds" into the taskbar search box. The top item should be Change System So...

I confess that I do not use Ancestral Sources so my suggestion below may not be optimal. Create a custom family query with columns Family, Marriage Date, Marriage Place, Then apply two row filters
Add Unless Marriage Date is null
Add Unless Marriage Place is null

Running gives you all families with a date or a place or both.

(Just speculating here.) Going back to the opening post, my impression is that your project is stored in the local copy of OneDrive. If that is the case then your project folder is local, with a synchronised online copy, and all folder and file references in your project refer to the local copy. Whe...

Reading this thread makes clear the many different ways people use to store their media files. However, the FH Media Gallery has various ways to find any media record, including querying the file name, so I cannot see any real advantage to using Windows Explorer to find a media file.

I think Jane's footer suggestion deserves another look. It is quite surprising how much you can fit in across a footer, however, as pointed out it can only be one line. The following settings, using the same font size as "Produced by Family Historian Footer-Header.JPG give this output in the footer ...
