Re: GEDCOM Between Various Programs
Mike I have been trying out your plugin with FTM 2014. The import into 2014 proceeds with no errors reported and hence this feedback is not so much about the plugin as a caution to anybody who intends to move data from FH to FTM2014. My experience with FTM 2014 import of sources, and I have noted th...

Re: A bug or is it me? Media export from one project to anot
I think I have found out why I didn't have a problem. The experiment I conducted was to import and merge a FH project (complete with foldered media) into the then current project (also with foldered media) and with no GEDCOM export/import stage. Since then I have looked into the process by creating ...

Re: A bug or is it me? Media export from one project to anot
I was concerned about this since at some time I am going to be doing a fair bit of merging. However, I am not seeing this problem. I have imported one file into another. Both files have media folders with subfolders: BMD, Census, Photos, etc After the merge the imported media is sitting in the corre...

Re: Standard v Custom GEDCOM
There has been quite a bit of activity on this thread today and this post is in response to a request from Jimlad68 last night to post a plugin. I have to say that the plugin that I used is very much manual intervention and requires inserting the Data Reference of the attribute into the plugin. I am...

Yes I was aware of the 'value' problem when converting attributes to events, I should have added that when I convert a custom attribute to an event I have a simple plugin to move all the attribute values to the beginning of the attribute notes first. (Which are usually empty anyway)

Re: Standard v Custom GEDCOM
After experimenting with Import-Export of GEDCOM I decided that I will eventually remove all the custom attributes from my files and replace them with either standard attributes/events or custom events. Mike's Change any Fact Tag plugin makes this feasible. I was not particularly happy about it at f...

Re: Saving Report Options and not overwriting them.
Monitoring the reports folders reveals that the options are saved to the report file as soon as you click the OK button on the options screen. Therefore it is necessary to take action before making changes and within FH I thiink that means saving a copy of your custom report under another name befor...

Re: How to keep Saved Chart while merge 2 projects?
Mike I did read the previous thread and I also downloaded the zip with the two projects. Following the instructions I crashed FH by merging the second file into the first and attempting to import and open the saved chart. So I decided to do the operations the other way round - namely importing proje...

Re: How to keep Saved Chart while merge 2 projects?
Have you tried merging the project without the saved charts into the one with the saved charts? Obviously if you have saved charts in both projects this will not help.

Re: remove the preposition in a narrative report
The help file will show you the way - search for Template Codes and look at the Date paragraph. Date codes accept qualifiers which allow you to choose the date format. As soon as you add a qualifier the automatic prepositions disappear. The disadvantage is that you will have to do this for every fac...

Re: 2-way associations
Jane I have never made use of automatic source citation so this is a new departure for me. However, when I set automatic source citation and tried to run the plugin I got a message saying that the plugin couldn't be run while automatic source citation was enabled. However, it got me thinking about s...

2-way associations
Associations within BMD and Census records are well-covered by ancestral sources but there are other uses for Associations. Generally an association is 2-way but because the two people are not 'married' entering shared information is not only impossible but often the relationship between them is not...

A useful point about the GEDCOM 5.5 standard. I actually have a pdf copy but have found it easier to do an online search than plough through it. I never considered using the All tab which, as you say, is the fast and easy way. Thanks.

Re: Sourcing the parent-child relationship
Since posting this question I have spent (a little) time trying various options and searching online and I decided to share my thoughts in case anyone else is juggling this problem. 1. Since I have downloaded the Assoc tab my first thought was to simply list father & mother as Associations. This can...

Re: Problems browsing for files
Is it fair to assume that the install which gave you the error is the one which is causing the problem? Googling LastCP.. - which I assume you have done - does not produce any definitive solution to the problem nor even any great number of hits. One suggestion that seemed to work for one individual ...

If you do a Google search with "<your ancestor's name> 1795 trial Dorset UK" there are a few hits which you may, or may not, have seen already.

Re: GEDCOM Between Various Programs
Just for the record. I forgot that I had a copy of Gramps installed (v3.4.8-1) Importing from FH to Gramps and then exporting to a GEDCOM gives (with the event matching my earlier post) 1 EVEN 2 TYPE 1851 Census 2 NOTE Description: Head of household 2 DATE 30 MAR 1851 2 PLAC Sneinton, Nottinghamshir...

Re: Plugin - Change Any Fact Tag - suggestion
Mike I am selecting one custom attribute entry from my file (and I know the census use is non-standard). I guess you will be somewhat surprised at the outcomes. In the GEDCOM produced by FH we get 1 _ATTR Head of household 2 TYPE 1851 Census 2 DATE 30 MAR 1851 2 PLAC Sneinton, Nottinghamshire 2 ADDR...

Re: Plugin - Change Any Fact Tag - suggestion

Unfortunately I have no recent files since I switched to FH but I will dig around. I was particularly disappointed with Rootsmagic a...

This discussion continues from 11325|Plugin - Change Any Fact Tag - suggestion : It will be interesting to see how other programs deal with Attribute vs Events. Re: birth name or adopted name
FH is quite able to deal with an individual belonging to two or more families as a child. My wife was adopted and I have trees for both her adopted family and her birth family. If I put her into focus and select the parents and siblings tab then both familes show. Of course you have to choose a prim...

Thanks for the response. Prior to FH I was using Legacy which does allow such sourcing, I didn't realize it was a non-standard feature.

Sourcing the parent-child relationship
I am trying to produce an 'audit trail' of the information I have for my ancestors. So I am starting with my birth certificate with the names of my parents on it. In the relationship to parents I enter birth but I do not seem to be able to source this relationship. Clearly the birth certificate is a...

fh_Lua syntax highlighting in Notepad++
This is for people who use, or might use, Notepad++ as a text editor for Lua (or GEDCOM or any other of the big list of supported languages.) Lua is one of the supported languages for syntax highlighting, folding, automatic indentation etc. But standard Lua does not include FH keywords and so there ...

Thanks for the reference SL. An interesting read. It strikes me that our preconceptions step in when reading. Now we would assume that the newspaper statement was talking about people from Egypt and France but in 1850, when political correctness was an alien concept, I think it is possible that a re...
