Re: Download managers

Ideally I'd like a log of all the filenames downloaded and where they came from. I'd like something that would generate that, plus I was hoping I could find some way to scrape the information for the files which are already downloaded. This information is contained in a database file places.sqlite ...

Try Tools >Work with Data > Places. Select the place and click Where Used. This will give you a results set.

Re: Re-Ordering Plugins on the Tools Menu

Thanks Mike, I was slowly coming to the realisation that FH needed tp be restarted to allow the loading of the new menu. I can stop looking for another way. I have seen the references to online manuals for both Lua and IUP but to be frank, for a beginner. the notes in the Knowledge base are more use...

Re: Re-Ordering Plugins on the Tools Menu

OK here is my first go at a plugin to do drag and drop reordering. For safety I both create a backup of the existing Plugins.fhdata and until fully tested I am writing the new list into Plugins.fhdata.new. I have essentially no experience with IupLua so any comments are welcome. I ended up using a t...

Re: Re-Ordering Plugins on the Tools Menu

Eric

Brute force is how I have now learned to do it. In fact if you are not changing the number of plugins you only need to move the "Name=.." lines around and not get involved with any renumbering. Nevertheless it would be nice to have a simple drag'n'drop method.

Re: Re-Ordering Plugins on the Tools Menu

Thanks Mike. ' There is no Plugin to do that at present, but it would be a relatively simple task. I take it that means relative to your knowledge ;) However, I have made a start! on the easy bit. So far I have been able to extract the names of the existing plugins on the tools menu, in the order th...

Re-Ordering Plugins on the Tools Menu

I hope I am missing something obvious here. I have currently 18 plugins on the tools menu and I like to organise them into blocks according to what they do. As far as I can find out the only way, for example, to put a plugin in at number 6 in my list is to remove all the plugins after 6 from the lis...

Re: Showing direct ancestors clearly in the focus window

Jumping up and down the direct ancestors in the focus window can be done to some extent using the Ancestors tab. If you focus on your root person you can get 5 generation tree on the ancestors tab and if you focus on one of them then you can move further up the tree and the back arrow will take you ...

Re: Census - adding new individuals (2nd question)

As an alternative you could associate the grandchild with the grandparent. The Associates Tab fhugdownloads:contents:property_box_tabs_associated_persons|> Property Box Tabs Associated Persons is pretty much essential to make this useful. The net result looks like this Assoc1.PNG and you can switch ...

Odd footnote mark behaviour in Individual Summary

I have just been adding some sourced notes to various individuals in my tree and then previewing the Individual Summary report. I discovered the following oddity (I had to zoom to 500% to find out what was happening) footnote.PNG The footnote marker, instead of being at the end of the final sentence...

Re: Support for Witnesses in V6

Two programmes that I am familiar with , Rootsmagic 6 and Legacy 8, have the facility for sharing events These implementations, in my opinion, suffer the same disadvantage. The event is not the central thing, it is the individual who 'owns' the event who is central. This makes event sharing somewhat...

Re: Word file or PDF

When I find myself with a census household that stretches over two census page images I use a photo-editor to create a single image of twice the width (or height) as a single jpg. It seems to me that you could do the same with your will - create a single image of four times the width. This will remo...

Re: Citing Non Conformist Image Records

Jane The "note record trick" sounds interesting. At the moment, and it is early days yet so I could easily change it, I am creating a source with the image attached and the full transcription in Text from Source. So is the idea that for each entry that interests me I create an individual source and ...

Citing Non Conformist Image Records

I have a number of ancestors and relatives who were Non-Conformists and I am downloading baptism record images from the Genealogist. Typically an image is a scan of two adjacent pages and can contain rbetween 8 and 18 (roughly) baptisms. The most interesting ones are those with 8 records since each ...

Re: Bulk adding source data

I do agree about the citations but I also think as far as possible we should avoid repetition of details. I don't know if this is relevant but I have a transcription list of memorials and a source record which contains all the common details and then use citations to refer to the individual items. (...

Re: Bulk adding source data

Although this may not be what you are looking for it seems to me that if you are making 4,500 copies then you should consider creating a source (Method 1) rather than a citation (Method 2). Attaching a source to a list of people, as a <whole record> source is fairly simple as a plugin - with a bit o...

Re: Help - direct line indication in Record view

Absolutely correct about the changing of last updated. I will also add that my plugin only alters the value of various standard fields and I have ne...

Re: Help - direct line indication in Record view

One possibility here would be to use a plugin toggle to modify the name of members of the direct line (e.g. add * to the surname so David NEWTON* when set but David NEWTON when unset). In fact going back to a much earlier post it would probably be better to have a Direct flag and use the plugin to '...

Re: Plugin editor crashing FH

After all the times I thought I had solved this problem I am reluctant to say I have resolved it. After much testing it has become clear that although I think I have solved the problem, once I ...
