Re: Find and Replace Places
This isn't a 6.1.1 issue -- it dates from 6.0 -- and forgive me if it has been discussed before. However... I'm unhappy about the behaviour of Find and Replace where Place records are concerned. I have, for example, a Place record "London (Barnet), LND" which is referenced by four Individual record...
Re: Adoption?
I have short form certificates for both my mother and my wife, for different reasons. My mother's certificate was the original short form certificate issued to the informant (presumably her father or mother) free of charge. I have never requested a full certificate since I doubt that I will learn an...

Re: Retaining Record Numbers on Export to RootsMagic
Hi Mike I feel somewhat guilty at having brought this up as I was not expecting my opening post to result in this amount of effort for you. I have to say that I have no intention of using RoosMagic as my main database and the matching of record numbers was my only concern. I have been on to the Root...

Re: Retaining Record Numbers on Export to RootsMagic
Mike I have tried the new version and it works fine and removes the family RINs. My comment regarding renaming is a personal choice and should not affect the use of the plugin. There are still two remaining issues that show up in the import log (a) Although RM correctly interprets shared events it d...

Re: Retaining Record Numbers on Export to RootsMagic
Mike That is a big increase in options but all fairly easy to understand. The check box in RootsMagic still turns up. I think it is good that anyone exporting to Rootsmagic should have the option to keep record numbers or not. I checked the log file and there were still a number of unknowns for RINs...

Re: Retaining Record Numbers on Export to RootsMagic
Hi Mike That works also. I compared the log files and the only differences came from the header changes and consequent line number changes in the Unknown Info references. The RINs I put in the file a short while back when I amalgamated 4 files and then renumbered them by generating RINs and using th...

Re: Retaining Record Numbers on Export to RootsMagic
Hi Mike I modified the Header as you described 0 HEAD 1 SOUR RootsMagic 1 GEDC 2 VERS 5.5 2 FORM LINEAGE-LINKED 1 CHAR UTF-8 1 DEST RootsMagic and the record number checkbox showed up, the import seemed to go without problem and the record numbers seem to be as hoped. I had a look at the import log ...

Retaining Record Numbers on Export to RootsMagic
This isn't so much a question as a problem for which I could not find a solution on these forums and a couple of workarounds. In the past I have used and liked the Research Manager facility in RootsMagic so having largely caught up on existing data entry I decided to export my file from FH to RootsM...

Re: Sources, Citations and Methods
My apologies Darryl I failed to say that it is necessary to write a complete template in the Advanced box. To quote from an earlier post by Mike In the Advanced Template use {=ExistsText( %FACT.SOUR%, "* " )}{abbr} {place} for Events. Alternatively Attributes will need {=ExistsText( %FACT.SOUR%, "* ...

Re: Sources, Citations and Methods
Sorry for this nit-picking but Nick is not totally accurate in saying no clicks. First of all it is necessary to click on the event to make the appropriate source show up in the source pane. Secondly if you have more than one source for an event only the first one is selected so it is necessary to e...

Re: Creating a Family Note
You need to get to the Family record property box. If you have the focus window open (showing the two people and their children) make sure that the property box is showing on the right side and then click the line between the people and the children (with the marriage details) and on the right you w...

Re: Sources, Citations and Methods
I think that a difference between FH and FTM is that FTM may preserve the basic citation detail from the yellow "automatic source citations" window??? i.e. it keeps permanently the details of the source in one record and the details of the citation in one record. Or am I totally wrong on that? Or i...

Re: Variable abbreviation/truncation of place names - possib
Last Change Note > Note: Abbreviated two part name What an excellent idea, I have often wished to use standard abbreviations but not for everything. It is fairly simple to customize data entry and add a field in the Main tab of the Property box to expose at least one such note (or as many as you th...

Re: Pre-release of version 6.1
It may not matter David, but have you updated to the new File > Project Window > More Tasks > Samples > Reset Sample Project that comes with V6.1 ? I have to say I assumed that would be done by the installation. So now I have reset the sample project and the two example filters mentioned both seem ...

Re: Pre-release of version 6.1
Yes John, something very odd is happening to filtering. Take the new Family Historian Sample Project and on Media tab enter Filter Title Carrington . The list of three Media records includes Anthony Munro that does NOT have Carrington anywhere in the record. Similarly, with Filter Title Munro the r...

Re: Non-breaking space to keep words together
In v6.1 you can modify the characters which pop up on a hold down. For example you could add a no-break space to the space hold down pop-up (as I am currently running v6,1 I am assuming this facility is available in v6.0.x). One simple way to do this, there are doubtless others, is to pick a note fi...

Another alternative is to change the background colour of the Property box to make make the white arrows stand out a bit more. Careful though some colours are a bit eye popping.

Some very welcome additions regarding witnesses and I am particularly happy (despite all the effort it is going to cost) to see that the vitally important parent-child relationship can now be sourced.

Re: Back Button
I would regard the property box as the main screen and that does in fact have back and forward and up (to parents when looking at an individuals box) buttons. They are in the top right of the box. I use them a lot when entering data as it allows me to take a look at a source and then go back to the ...

Re: My Heritage - A Warning!
In defence of FH6: installing FH6 does not sign you up to a subscription to MyHeritage. How did MyHeritage obtain your card details? I am running FH6, and recently re-installed it due to the Windows 10 update in November and I am certain I was not asked to sign up a credit card to MyHeritage or anyo...

A solution, may not be the best. Open the standard Query 'Individual Timeline' and make a copy of it namiing it, for example, 'Individual Timeline with Addresses'. Modify the column set in the copy by adding 'Address' and 'Place:FULL', position them where you would like. Now run the query for your i...

Re: Handling adoptive and birth parents
In the property box select the All tab. You will see two sets of Parents Family. Select one of them and a small black arrow will appear in the top right corner of that window. Click it to change the order to the one you want. The first in the list is the default family.

I have looked at these (summaries only) in the LMA and also on London Lives (not surprisingly the info seems to be much the same). Re: Problems Importing FTM Gedcom to FH
Some time ago when exchanging data between Legacy and FTM2012 I recall that the choice of destination format was important. I have been doing a little experimenting with FTM2012 export, making the choice of Output format GEDCOM 5.5. At the next step the choice of destination matters. I have not test...
