Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
Thanks Mike I just came across that mistake when doing some deeper testing. Unfortunately I have very few individuals with more than one media record attached so that error slipped past me. It should read == as opposed to ~=. There is also another error in that loop as I have mismatched the index: O...

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
One of the joys, and problems, with FH is that you can do a great many things that you shouldn't be able to do. Earlier when I was thinking about this I added a Spouse family link to my grandson's record and he has no children and no spouse. Of course I cheated a bit by adding it via the All tab. He...

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
Mike My main aim in using the avatars with a plus was to give a visual indication in the focus window as to which children had more relatives to see if selected, It occurs to me after this discussion that I failed to allow for the possibility of children and no spouses, My reading of the FH help fil...

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
Mike I checked this out with a simple query and using ~SPOU[<20] (and I do mean twenty) in all the families in my file (maximum of 3 spouses) this picked out the last spouse BUT I have no families of the type you mentioned. So I constructed one and annoyingly it then returned a blank. I guess I will...

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
As I said yesterday, your use of fhGetItemText(pi,'~.~SPOU[<2]>') is unsatisfactory. I believe the objective is to return an empty string when the Indiviudal has no partner/spouse in any Family, and return a text string if there is a partner/spouse in at least one Family. In your code, if there is ...

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
There was an error in the revisited plugin in the order of pointers in the IsAncestorOf function call. I'm posting a corrected version.

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
Mike I understand what you are saying about the ~SPOU shortcut and there is an ambiguity in the help file. I interpreted it that in the case of an individual this index would point to the spouse family number. In the Individuals record list I usually have the two columns for ~SPOU[1] and ~SPOU[2] an...

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
Hi Mike
I have been working on the plugin this morning so have only just read your last post. I am attaching the version that I now have, which seems to work OK, but who knows?
David
I have detached the plugin as there was an error, see later post.

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
Hi Mike Not being that familiar with the ~SPOU shortcut I had looked it up in the help file. In the context of a family record it returns the first spouse in the family. In the context of an individual it returns the spouse of the individual (if there is one) in their first spouse family record. The...

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
I will have a closer look at this tomorrow. You are right about the trec matching, I have made this error in the past and I have resolved it (in the past) by making sure all the strings are the same length - padding them out with zeroes at the front. The problem I was trying to resolve with the spou...

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
I have been trying to make this run more efficiently by doing the calculations of gender etc as I need them and in doing so I realised that I had the priority order of avatars wrong. So I am going to rewrite that section. For the moment I am going to leave the media records as they are since that wi...

Re: Adding 'avatars' to individuals
Mike thank you for the comments. I'm not sure where the odd text is as I cannot see it in my copy in FH. I agree about the avatar media records, it would be nice if they were automatically picked up and I tried various ways of doing it but in the end I decided for me it was simpler to add the re...

Adding 'avatars' to individuals
I do not use diagrams, I just can't seem to navigate them properly, so I don't have access to all the decorative options. As a small step I add avatars to the individuals in my tree which give a very rough classification of status: male or female, with spouse or without, directly related or indirect...

Re: Media Window List Pane
Well here's an interesting thing. I set the Media Workspace preference to Do not allow the re-use of open windows. Open a media window and get the narrow list I mentioned earlier. Immediately open a second Media window and the list width goes up to about 50 characters, more than 3 times as big and q...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals
Have you any other 'goodies' hidden away! Jim I think that most of us who use Family Historian and dabble (and I use the word with accuracy in my case) with Lua have a load of single purpose plugins often specifically adapted to our own way of doing things and hence not really suitable for public c...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals
Thanks for the comments Mike and Jim. As I implied this was an interim effort and the logic was following the OP's request, namely choose a fact (already entered I assumed) mark it in some way (I choose [*] but it would be a simple matter to ask for an input for the marker if [*] is unsuitable) and ...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals
I've written a quick and dirty plug-in which may help until someone writes a more sophisticated one. The plugin requires that the individual who gets the fact first to be selected and the fact itself marked by the presence of the text '[*]' at the beginning of the note field, which will be removed b...

Re: Media Window List Pane
Yes Mike I have tried that but it doesn't stick, eevn if I simply close and re-open the media window. I use the media window a lot and I am pretty sure it did not behave like this until recently which is why I thought that I had accidentally changed a setting which brought it on. It's not major, I j...

Media Window List Pane
When I open the View All Media window the list pane is just wide enough to show the first 15 characters of the media name and then the rest of the window is the thumbnail gallery (and sometimes a property box if I set it to show). There is a setting to show List Pane only in the media menu but it is...

Re: Military History for Property Box Tab
My father joined the Navy pre-WW2 and was killed in action. I obtained his service record which is informative in a skimpy way with lots of dates and abbreviations. I found it difficult deciding how to enter the information. In the end I decided, like Adrian Bruce, to write my own narrative, however...

Although not an answer to your original question the phrase 'John of Ashe' suggests to me that he might be a known historical figure. Re: i want the program to open up on the person i am currently working on and not always the root person.
An alternative solution (and I am sure that there are issues with it otherwise why do anything else) is to hibernate the computer instead of shutting down, But do not exit Family Historian before hibernating. Of course this method restores everything that you have open at the time of hibernation. Da...
