Re: Unableto see names
As can be seen from Janes first post on this thread creating a complete colour scheme is a tedious process so this may be a good time to remember that once you have set up your scheme it can be exported and imported back, with a suitable name, so that it becomes a named colour scheme in the drop dow...

Re: writing queries
I used the FactOwner shortcut function to extract the individual or pair of individuals and then the relationship function so getting four columns TAG="Owner","=FactOwner(%FACT%,1,MALES_FIRST)" TAG="Owner relation","=Relationship(FactOwner(%FACT%,1,MALES_FIRST),FileRoot(),TEXT,1)" TAG="CoOwner","=Fa...

Re: Find Duplicate Citations Question
Thanks Mike, I should have known it wasn't that easy. My criterion is simply that I want to keep the last occurrence of each citation so I wll make one more suggestion. I will confess immediately that I cannot follow every detail of this plugin but I think that the id is used simply as a sort mechan...

Find Duplicate Citations Question
I did a stupid thing! I split off part of my tree in order to proof read the citations on the more important parts. I realise I should only work with one tree so save the criticism. Anyway after a while I merged the sub-tree back in and ended up with duplicate citations, hundreds of them, and all th...

Re: Usability of FH with/without the Book
I am not sure how you want this discussion to proceed as your opening post raises a number of questions. I came to FH via PAF, Legacy, FTM and Roots Magic. My file has been through all of these so you can imagine what a mess it is in places. I settled on FH because the Plugins offer 'simple' access ...

Re: Chrome and FHUG
I think this is a more complicated problem that I first thought and FHUG is not the only site I regularly use which is affected by this problem, e.g. BBC,... On the other hand a number of sites I regularly use are not affected, e.g. WebUser, Family Tree Forum,.... None of the solutions mentioned per...

Re: Chrome and FHUG
Thanks Brian. I looked at those settings and the Cookies etc is not ticked. I thought nothing to lose here so I searched for the cookies from fhug (21 in total) and deleted them all then changed my password to force Chrome to update it and see if that works. Of course my sync settings may simply rep...

Chrome and FHUG
This is not a question; it is an observation which may help in case anyone else is having the same problem. A day or so back my automatic login to FHUG stopped working and I was having to log in every time. The form was filled in correctly with my user name and password so it was a simple click of t...

Re: Reviewing historic tree
Do over is a good idea if your file is a bit of a shambles. Mine certainly was, still is in fact, and I've been revisiting it for over a year. Get ready for some tedium, but added to that you will almost certainly find stuff you have missed to relieve the tedium. I'll detail what I did but I am offe...

Re: child count on family
The Main Tab of an individual's property box gives the number of children in each marriage in the header of the list of children when the spouses are selected. Strangely the child list and number of children does not appear in the Family property box, perhaps for the reasons mentioned by Tatewise. I...

Try the menu item Tools > Work with Data > Places (or Addresses)

*Somewhat off topic* can I suggest the free MailStore Home
https://www.mailstore.com/en/products/mailstore-home/
as an easy to use email archiving solution.
I have no connection with MailStore other than as a satisfied user and Moderators feel free to delete this post if you wish.

Re: Primary Image on Focus Page
Newcomers to FHUG, and in particular those checking out FH, are frequently unaware of the extent of the Knowledge Base and a reference to a particular part of it is good advice, not intended as an admonishment.

Re: If I wish to source something, make something
An interesting thread: might I make a naive suggestion. Create a Marriage event with no date and place by entering a marriage note e.g. "Date and Place Unknown". This can be added as an extra field in the Main tab of the Family Record sheet via customizing data entry. It also, if needed, now gives y...

Re: Number of individuals in each pool
First of all save the csv with some suitable name. I think it defaults into your project Public folder but it might be easier to find if you save it in your Documents folder and don't open it for viewing. I am using Excel 2007 so you may need to take that into account. There is more than one way of ...

Re: Number of individuals in each pool
Following up on Mike Tates suggestion of exporting as csv. Save the result set of the Search Orphans Query as a csv ensuring that column headings are included. Open the csv using Excel setting the delimiter for the csv as a comma. Then make a pivot table (in a new worksheet) making sure that Individ...

Re: Adopted Line in Focus Window and Reports
You need to manually change the order of the parent families in the All tab listing. Select a set of parents and use the up/down arrows at the top left of the tab to change the order. The first on the list is treated as the 'primary' set of parents and their details appear in the Ancestors Tab. Note...

Re: Records Window
I think there is some confusion here with AFN = LDS Ancestral File Number and RIN = Automated Record Number. Either or both can be added via the All tab as long as there is not an occurrence there already and either can be edited in the All tab by right clicking and editing the field that shows up. ...

Re: @NOTEPOINTER@
If I have understood correctly. Your note records are on the note tab in the records window. If you select a note then using the View menu select Record Links, you will get a list of all records linked to the selected note. If there is more than one then probably the best way to deal with them is to...

Re: Help modifying a query re 1939 register
If you record the 1939 Register as a census event and assuming it is the only census event in 1939 then a final line Exclude unless %INDI.CENS[year=1939]% is null should remove all those with a 1939 census entry. It is worth noting that the 1939 Register included people born outside England so you m...

Pat on the back for Simon Orde
After trash talk regarding software that uses GEDCOM as database Tamura Jones gave a very positive review for Family HIstorian and Simon Orde https://www.tamurajones.net/ARealDatabase.xhtml In the case of Family Historian, the use of GEDCOM as a database isn't a mistake, but a conscious choice by a ...
