Is there not a difference between the download and retail versions? I have the retail version and it does not ask for a name only the registration key. You could try installing from the CD and see if that works.

I managed to do it the brute force way by editing the Plugins.fhdata file. You need to alter the number 'N' at the end of the [PluginN] line to bring the list of plugins into order.
