Re: Saving screen layout

I agree, this would be useful. As it is, I cannot figure out how to put the Source Box under the Details Box, as indicated in the Help file.
Has anyone done this is v5.xxx?

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window

Thanks, Jim! It's taking me a while to get used to how things are linked in FH, but I'm getting there - I find the "undo" option very useful. Also a former TMG user.

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window

OK, here I am again. Now I have a spouse listed twice and cannot get the one child transferred to the correct union. She is already linked to both parents, just listed separately. If I delete the link to that second spouse, the child goes with it. ???? Edited: Ah-ha! Used the "add child" option on t...

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window

Thanks, Mike, that worked. However, I must say it is not at all intuitive. It would be nice to have an "expand all" choice at the top.

It IS good, though, to have both a delete LINK and delete record choice!

Cheers,
Kathleen

Re: Duplicate family members on Focus Window

Thanks, Jim, that's something I will investigate. Jane, I ran the query and did come up with several duplicate spouses (same people). However, when I click on the link Correcting Duplicate Spouses/Families, it just returns me to the same page. All the links I found did the same thing. So, how do I g...

Duplicate family members on Focus Window

What causes one child to appear below the rest of the family, even though the parents names/ID#s are the same? I've run into this several times. Validating doesn't seem to fix it.

Screen snip attached.

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

Thanks Mike and Colin, Yes, I read the statement at the top of the file and realize that a lot (probably most) of the report has to do with mapping. I was having a hard time finding the data that had been moved to note fields, but I'm getting better at it. Thank you, Mike, for that summary to send t...

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

Mike,

Finally got my TNG installation updated, installed the 2 files Darrin sent me and exported a gedcom. Attached is the report I got from FH. The validation report showed no errors. I ran the plug-in you sent me and it fixed "0" problems.

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

Thanks, Mike. Darrin sent me a couple of files to install on my TNG site. I will try and get to that today and see what happens.

Mike,

Can you give me a short explanation of what seems to be wrong that I can send to Darrin Lythgoe?

Thanks,

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

Mike and Colin, I have emailed Darrin Lythgoe and asked him to read this thread. I have no idea what PAGE is or how to fix it. Perhaps he can tell me what I need to fix in TNG to make this go more smoothly. I'm wondering if it is something I have copy/pasted into note fields or something similar? I ...

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

Thanks to you both for your help.

Question: should I apply this fix to the gedcom Colin sent me or a new one generated from my TNG website?

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

Thanks to you both for tackling this problem. I will also post this on the forum at TNG and see if there is anything in my setup that could possibly contribute to the problem.

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

Thanks, Mike. Originally, I saved two copies of the gedcom (just in case!), so the one I "opened" in error was not the same one I created a new project with. When I had so many problems, I downloaded a fresh gedcom from TNG and started over. I checked back and forth between what I had on my TNG webs...

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

Thanks. One of the problems was I (stupidly) just opened the gedcom instead of creating a new project. So I didn't get the error messages this time, but I am still missing a lot of data. For instance, in my sample above, at the bottom, you see the information on the will of Rosabel M'Elrea? None of ...

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

OK, I've had a first try at importing my gedcom from TNG and it resulted in a LOT of lost data. Do I have to fix this manually or is there a setting I missed somewhere. The "validation" process only came up with 6 errors, so that was easily handled. Here are a couple of samples from the Exception Fi...

Re: From TNG > FH5 > TNG

Thanks again, Mike. You have given me even more information (I didn't know about the underscore).
I'm beginning to think the better way forward would be to just maintain the database in FH and upload at intervals to TNG, as I want to make use of the options in FH.

Jane, can you tell me a bit more about the photographs, converting the media, and the different ways I need to consider?

Yes, I want to maintain the ability to edit in TNG.

Cheers

From TNG > FH5 > TNG

I have a website on TNG. It's pretty simple, just one tree, no branches, etc. Having now started using Family Historian 5, I would like to import my TNG file for easier input of data and maintain it offline, and then upload the changes to TNG. Can anyone tell me what is involved in doing this, any p...

Re: Exporting ancestors with their siblings

Thanks to you both, I will try the suggested methods and see what happens. Actually, I have two needs at the moment: 1. As I said, to post a somewhat limited tree to Ancestry, etc. 2. While doing DNA comparisons, I need to follow one or more lines of say, my mother's ancestors, along with their sibl...

Exporting ancestors with their siblings

I want to create a gedcom for posting online including my ancestors, bmd only, along with their siblings and spouses. Can anyone tell me how to create this?

Thanks
