Re: "Charts" and "Diagrams" Confusion
The distinction is important. (Although I agree that terms like 'Pedigree Chart' which is actually a Diagram Type, don't help!).... Beautiful explanation, thanks :star :star :star. With a few details missing, I suspect, but enough to lower BP to safe levels again, give me a framework for understand...

Re: Question on Extending GEDCOM Structure
Many of the custom extensions are imported correctly when reading the original database, which is always preferable to GEDCOM where available. For example, RM stores all its data in an SQLite database that FH understands and imports. However, there is no “export to database” option in FH. Mmmm, how...

Re: Question on Extending GEDCOM Structure
Yes, as long as it adheres to the GEDCOM rules for 'user-defined' custom tags, i.e. they start with an underscore (_). FH already has lots of such extensions as listed in GEDCOM Extension List which does not include the FH V7 extensions _SDATE, _FSID, _NOTA, _RNOT, _SRCT, _PCIT, etc. However, such ...

"Charts" and "Diagrams" Confusion
If a diagram is what you can display in a Diagram Window, and charts are no more than pre-saved or pre-defined charts or diagrams, why do we need the redundancy and confusion of two separate terms? No doubt there is KB or other sources of help to clarify if there really is a subtle distinction. But ...

Sorry, Lorna, too dozy to notice whom you quoted. Too inclined to jump back in when I think anyone's disagreeing. Any tips on how an opinionated old **** could mend his ways?LornaCraig wrote: ↑16 Jan 2022 10:57Paul, my comment was meant for MB@RE, who had suggested creating a custom query which is not necessary.

Question on Extending GEDCOM Structure
Hi, Experts!
I'm pretty certain the answer's going to be "no", but...
Is it "legal" for Calico to add a custom Structure (using standard primitives) to a record such as INDI?
[I realise Calico adds its own custom Record types with various structures]

Re: Check for Unlinked Relatives or Individuals
Create a new individual query. On line two add : "=RelationPool(%INDI%)" You don't need to create a custom query. Just use the standard query called Search for Orphans . Lorna, I didn't say I needed (or wanted) a custom (or any other kind of) query. Just a tip to point out the benefit of a (1-minut...

Re: Ability to make a new copy of existing citation.
I can't resist chipping in to this mouldering request. My two cents-worth doesn't violate the wording of its title, but isn't quite the same thing. Like Gowermick, I have an aversion to having to rely on plugins and other aids like AS for tasks that, in my little world, ought to be part of the FH st...

Re: Check for Unlinked Relatives or Individuals
Create a new individual query. On line two add : "=RelationPool(%INDI%)" Those not in Pool 1, should be orphans. Just noticed this and prompted to mention I find it very useful to have a first "custom" column in the Individual Records Window with Heading "Pool" and Expression as you quoted. Any tim...

Re: Compare birth year with a year value in a note
I have a birth entries of the form: Birth Date Q2 1901 Note GRO: Aylesbury 3a, 567 1901 Jun Q Mother: Jones As initially the birth years came from census entries etc,. and I looked for the birth record in The GRO there are cases where the years differ. Re: Partner (not spouse) designation
Paul, this is in danger of going off at a tangent and I may choose to start a new thread for that. GEDCOM does support Civil Partnerships and any other type of partnership via the TYPE subsidiary tag to a Marriage Event.... See FHUG KB Recording a Civil Partnership that mentions the Fact Type Descr...

Re: Partner (not spouse) designation
I'm a bit disappointed. FH is such a powerful and flexible program, with so much that I will probably never understand - I'd have thought that being able to make a customized status item would be an option. I figured I just didn't know how to do it. I'll use your work-around for my reports and cont...

Re: Specific GEDCOM export?
It concerns thousands of individuals so manually adding them would be practically impossible. So what I'm hoping to find is a solution where I just add some criteria and then everything is done automatically. The thing is that I want to display my GEDCOM on a website, but only the part relevant to ...

Replying to Mike: I'm happy to agree with everything you say, including about duplication. And also understand too well how busy you and the Team must be. The functional/efficiency benefits (to me, rather startling) of this very small, specific customisation were spotted and passed on by you, a high...

Re: Citation Properties Dialogue (Filtering/Preferences)
One option that might actually make it even easier is to use the Menu > Customize Citation Window... feature. Then you can add the Text from Source field directly to the Citation tab in either the Source Record section at the top or the Citation-specific Details section at the bottom. That then avo...

Re: Diagram Fact "Looping"
It is already possible to insert multiple additional trees into a Diagram using Diagram > Insert into Diagram . That can include alternative parents, other marriages, etc. Just so, Mike, that's what I do. I should have rephrased the last bit "Or, with an additional tree in the diagram, re-linking a...

Re: Diagram Fact "Looping"
Had to laugh. I thought I was the only "Diagram Man", working my way around a family visually, wouldn't be without it, one of the beautiful features of FH (with a couple of tweaks would be even more useful for me). When the Focus Window arrived I thought "great, makes FH much more approachable for c...

Diagram Fact "Looping"
A bit ignorant but don't know what else to call this. A single event type (in practice more often than an attribute type) can have multiple occurrences (e.g. sequence of censuses). I show these in a person's box on diagrams successfully enough, but also wanted to include some subordinate detail like...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals
Very interesting. I suppose your source record does include lots of Notes, and it's a pity we can't (apparently) add custom properties - like Date Last Accessed. And presumably you have Sources for each Census and would gladly exploit multi-level Sources to record your details at the best level. (I...

Re: Assigning a fact to multiple individuals
The one anomaly that you have spotted before is Family Facts such as Marriage and Divorce . Not wanting to be provocative or - heaven forbid - start another annoyi...

Paul, with 42 years and counting experience in IT, I'm pretty familiar with object-orientation and relational databases :D and my preferred programming style is object-oriented.
