Re: Family History Multi-Project Person Index WOW
What a star, Mike. Many, many thanks for delivering something I've wanted for years! I noticed 53 downloads and wonder (as you did) why there has been so little response. One point, though, unless this got noticed as a recent topic it has no real exposure. Maybe that's how you'd like it to be, but o...

Ah, great point there. Do you have similar reservations about other examples I mentioned?

Sub-Forums in General Usage
A question for our long-suffering, wonderful ;) Jane: is there any prospect at all you could provide sub-forums within forums, as I've used elsewhere? If that structure is just not supported, sorry for wasting your and everyone’s time. There is now such a mass of content that we rely heavily (and of...

Witness and Role in “Special” Events
Sorry this is long, and if this has been suggested before – a couple of quick searches came up with nothing, but it’s hard to find suitable search terms! Let alone a title for this post. For me, FH Witnesses/Roles are one of the most useful and far-reaching data structure innovations since FH Versio...

Re: Multiple Records Windows or Query Windows
Tried to get this back to you last night but ran out of steam but, luckily for me, it needed a lot of revision. In the meantime Mike has offered some great thoughts I will check out later. I am always a bit nervous about actions that will write multiple updates to multiple records! Couldn't agree mo...

Re: Citation Properties Dialogue (Filtering/Preferences)
Your suggestion may have merit, but it can take a long time for such requested changes to be implemented. Whereas the Customize Citation Window... feature is already available. Fair comment, thanks, and I'll take time out to do this and stop hoping for better in this instance. If you use that to ad...

Re: Multiple Records Windows or Query Windows
I think dbnut is asking for cells in a Result Set to allow the value to be modified directly in the Result Set. Especially the ability to set a selected set of cells all to the same value. Currently, that can only be done with a plugin. Yes, Mike, exactly. That was a throw-away remark referring to ...

Re: Multiple Records Windows or Query Windows
You can add records to a named list from the Records Window. Select any group of records and use Edit > Add to Named List Wow, thanks Lorna, I never spotted that - too used to expecting stuff to be available from a context menu, not just from the main menu bar. it's massively powerful. Though not e...

Re: Citation Properties Dialogue (Filtering/Preferences)
One option that might actually make it even easier is to use the Menu > Customize Citation Window... feature. Then you can add the Text from Source field directly to the Citation tab in either the Source Record section at the top or the Citation-specific Details section at the bottom. That then avo...

Re: Multiple Records Windows or Query Windows
I dont think I realised that one can run two queries and have the results of both, but I will look again in the morning. Tools, Preferences, Workspaces, Query Window, Re-Use of Open Windows Permitted: "No". I have "No" also for Diagram windows. [BTW you mention the ability of queries to put result ...

Re: Multiple Records Windows or Query Windows
Or have I not understood you bugbear? Well, David, I hadn't thought of hiding columns so that is a plus - many thanks for that. The upshot is it can remove maybe half of my point 3 (not its last sentence). My points 1 & 2 still stand. Queries still lack the tremendously useful multi-column sort rea...

Citation Properties Dialogue (Filtering/Preferences)
As far as I can tell this particular suggestion has not been made before... From the Citation List Pane we open the Edit Source Citation dialogue for a particular citation. On its Text tab we can view/add text to the Source Record or the Citation, filtered (if desired) by the combo box selector whic...

Re: Multiple Records Windows or Query Windows
Well, Mike, time has passed and no-one seems to be interested in this topic  . Perhaps there are not so many users doing one-name studies, looking for patterns and connections, trying to piece together relationships amongst a lot of pre-entered data? Despite the advantage of simultaneous quasi ...

Done, Mike. CP says it will be fixed in next release.tatewise wrote: ↑04 Dec 2021 17:28In that case, you could open a new support ticket at http://www.calico-pie.com/osticket/open.php and tell CP.
It is really very easy and might get it fixed sooner rather than later![]()

FH 7.0.9 Note Fields
One of the changes listed is "The cursor position was sometimes lost in note fields if you clicked on another window and then switched back. Fixed." I don't know what to make of this. A long-standing irritation to me was that application switching lost the FH cursor position (skips back to start of ...

I'll kick things off. I'm working on (or have planned): Birth from any source (generic or templated) Baptism from any source Marriage from any source Death from any source Burial/cremation from any source Helen, that would be stunning. What a lot of work we (you) have to circumvent the appalling GE...

Re: Tracking an Individual's Names
Thanks, Mike, I really appreciate your quick reply. To be honest, I had not thought of using a custom attribute to use as a name. At first glance, that seems a way to go to get the listing I'm looking for. I do use custom events quite a lot, so that's not a problem in principle. Sadly, though, there...

Tracking an Individual's Names
I have long been troubled by the difficulty of managing/tracking/listing an individual's multiple names - whether name changes at marriage or other events, different preferred given names over time, surname spellings that morph with time or according to a scribe's taste, etc, etc. It is not so much ...

Huh, should have expected that from other experiments! The only small caveat is that the intervening ...
