How to make a box for inputting text in a tab?
I'm quite happy customising a tab so that there are tick boxes to turn flags on and off. However, I am failing to manage to create a box which I can type into. How do I make something like the standard 'Born ... in ....' on the main tab? While I'm posting, I should probably also ask how I then get t...

Customising content of narrative reports
With diagrams it is possible to choose who shows and who doesn't by clicking the little buttons - a highly technical explanation, but you know what I mean.
Is it possible to generate narrative reports that include and exclude individuals in the same sort of way?
Thanks!

I think I have entered sources incorrectly.
I'm a fairly new FH user...but what I do is use the 'Name' box for: Census: Waite E, 1851, Moorby, HO107/2108 And in the 'text from source' box I put Moorby Elizabeth Waite, head, widow, 75, ag lab widow, Thimbleby, Lincs Eliza Dawson, granddaur, 9, Sleaford, Lincs William Carter, grandson, mar, 27,...

Customise sentence in report?
Dear All, I've got flags to indicate that I have a census entry for a given year. They work with icons very nicely on diagrams. I also know how to create a custom fact called, say, 'census' and how to adapt the resulting sentence output. Is it possible to reference the flags and change the sentence ...

A quick question this time:
Is it possible for the marriage record to be shown in the husband's box as well as the wife's?
Thanks!

Entering a marriage certificate
I've successfully added a birth certificate as a source by following the very helpful tutorial. I now want to add a marriage certificate...but it seems to me that if I do it the same way then I will have to do it separately for each individual. Is it possible to set it up as a family source?? I coul...

Thanks for all your help on this - Jon's suggestion of not navigating the folders and just pasting in the relevant folder structure worked a treat.
Thanks again!

Changing the name of a customised tab - how to?
Hi Helen, thanks for your reply...much appreciated! I've found a folder called: C:Program FilesFamily HistorianProperty Box which contains 11 files one of which is PB-INDI. None of the 11 files contain the names of the 4 customised tabs which I've made. To my inexperienced eye, the 11 files look as ...

Positioning flag icons in diagrams
Hi Maggie,
thanks for the reply...and I am just starting out with FH4 and so am making some daft mistakes as I go!
I'm not quite sure what I was doing wrong - it may well have been what you suggested...but I started from scratch and it's working nicely now.
Thanks again!
Kind regards,
William

Positioning flag icons in diagrams
Hi - thanks for taking the time to read this! I'm trying to construct a 'blank' flag - to be used only when I want to leave a gap between icons on a diagram. I've made a plain white .bmp file of the correct size and made a flag which ought to make it appear (though it will be transparent) so that al...

First time to try a query
I'm a novice with FH4 - and I want to try my first query.
I've set up a flag called 'Direct' and want to find all individuals who have that flag AND have an entry under the 'Notes' tab.
Could somebody tell me how to set about it??
Thanks!

Using flags to colour code the focus window
I have made a 'direct' flag to identify all the direct ancestors of my children.
Is it possible to use this flag to identify which are the direct ancestors on the Focus Window?...in the 1700s I sometimes forget who is who and lose myself in strange branches
Thanks!

Individual Narrative Report - a bug??
I've made my own Fact using the {spouse/her/him} code. When I generate an Individual Narrative Report it doesn't insert any appropriate text - just the '{spouse/her/him}' instead. So a sentence reads 'She is listed without {spouse/her/him} in the census in 1911 in Lincoln'. Have I made an error some...

Hi! I'm a new member of the forum - have been trying out FH4 with the free trial and liked it so much that I've decided to make the switch from FTM2006. I'm starting to find my way around reasonably well but two things are defeating me at the moment: 1) I'd like to remove the 'Text from source: ' wh...
