Birth not registered

It's best to check everything yourself, as Jane commented. To all intents and purposes, my grandfather wasn't on the online 1901 census, until I tried spelling variations and found him. All due to a transcription error. It's been recrified now, I believe. If you give a few more details, I'll have a ...

Publishing a Web Page

We have a certain amount of webspace allocated to us from the ISP - in our case Demon. So, publishing is to there, via FTP. I bought WsFTP_Pro but find the free CoreFTPLE the best and an absolute breeze to use. BUT, you will need webspace. Surefish, the christian Aid site is very good. I have no rel...

Previous married names

I really think I've started to lose the plot tonight! I received info that my 2nd cousin (3 times removed) had married a woman of one surname but I couldn't confirm that at all on the fiche at the local library. The only possible reference had her with a different surname. Turns out, she'd been marr...

Certified copies - a warning

I must say that I tend to get mine online almost exclusively. One from the office in Clun was hand-written by the Registrar who apologised that he couldn't read his mother's maiden name. The photocopy of the original showed it perfectly!

Distributing a completed tree

Why not use GEDMil? It's free, the link is on this site and the latest version can be customised to an extent.

It is certainly one worth considering as the resultant 'web page' can be read offline in IE or another browser that can read html.

Age at birth of first child

Superb! You are a darling. However, I've just noticed that even though the file has downloaded correctly, it is not accessible from FH. Is there a limit to th enumber of queries, reports etc. that can be available in the programme? What I mean is, do I have to remove some to instal others, once the ...

Is there suchc a query? If not, could you write one for me? It's to investigate the age of parents to see if there is any sort of pattern, a bit more easily.

It couldn't be a printing or written mistake could it? I mean, could it be 'Phthisis' or TB nowadays.

I still can't select an individual or individuals separately. the 'action' applies to the whole of the 580 people or so all at once.

I get the message that the record chosen can't be duplicated, or something like that, so the person selected as no 1 goes to the end.

I did this and record 313, changed Custom ID to 1, then repeated the second task, Custom ID went to 589.
I really must be doing something badly wrong here.
Would it help if yu had a look at the GEDCOM?

Sorry Jane, I just can't seem to get this simple thing right. How the heck do I change a record no 313 0r 275 to 1, and make him the 'top of the tree' as it were?
Just can't get it.

Record ID numbers

Sorry but I'm still not sure about this. Do yu mean I have to copy & then manually re-number the 600 or so records? I was hoping there was a way to re-number the first person & the rest would sort themselves out, as per the relationships already in existence. I'm afraid it looks like you're going to...

Record ID numbers

I see your point but what I want to do is to put a different person, namely my great X 4 Grandfather from record (as it happens in my tree from record 282 to record 1, replacing my great great grandfather. AND, to have all the links in place. In other words, the tree would start at a new No 1 person...

My tree has been extended quite a bit over the last year or so. A lot of individuals etc. have been added but in earlier generations that my great grandfather who, at the time, was the first person, as it were and therefore has the Record ID 1. When I used GEDMill, which is a nice little program by ...

I'd been using ws-ftp for a number of years - and still do - but there's a free program called Core FTP Lite which I find so much faster and user-friendly that I don't use ws-ftp at all now. Not really relevant to your comments but might be of some use. One thing about Core is that as long as you pr...

I have recently sent off for a number of BMD Certificates from the GRO online. They will have to be entered onto the FH details of the appropriate people in my tree. I've also got a few already which I haven't bothered to put on yet. Where do I start to enter the data? I know it's not in the Census ...

I still don't seem to be able to get it right. The diagram is just the same as it was and there's nothing on the the references to indicate that the two sisters I am trying to link are twins.

Birth Certificate

On FreeBMD, the following reference is found. March Quarter 1867 Herbert William Birkenhead 8a 417 However, if you go on that site, you can search through all districts, for all births, not just specific names, listed by volume & page number only. Of course you must bear in mind that the information...
