Re: Family Historian 6 on a second device
Your mini lap top may not have a CD drive but you can buy and attachment CD drive which you plug in. Your comment reminded me that I have such an attachment but haven't used it for years. May be this is no longer available due to the growth of flash drives. You should be able to add FH to a flash dr...

Re: Printing Whole Tree
I have had some trees printed by a printer. I first sent them the tree and they replied suggesting I make it small by (say) 75% . It was the same tree but reduced in size. The reason they suggested that was to make it cheaper for me to buy and easier to handle It is a few years since I used them the...

Re: How to Handle People With Multiple Names
If I don't know the wife's maiden name I always use her husbands name inside brackets. like say Sally (Markham). If is a second or third marriage I still use the first marriage surname because subsequent marriage will be her last husbands name. Only by finding details of the first marriage will you ...

Re: Lookup Ancestry BMD Records
Thanks Colin
I have no wish to edit the text it is all fine as it is so an image will do.
If I ever decide to edit it I could type what it said and then delete the image though it is unlikely that I will do.

Re: Lookup Ancestry BMD Records
When I talk about screen capture that is only what has been transcribed on ancestry. This includes baptisms where there is no image available. How you regards the GRO index is fine. I think of it as secondary simply because it is not an image. The image itself is primary. There are errors and omissi...

Re: Lookup Ancestry BMD Records
Apologise for including this in the other thread I was just thinking in terms of BMD and also to show an alternative which others may not be aware of. As to the source record I don't regard the GRO index as a real source record. I treat these as secondary or even questionable information (depending ...

Lookup Ancestry BMD Records
Talking about BMD records Ancestry have been transcribing these and the results are shown in a 'panel'. I have been using Snap my screen over the area of the 'panel'. I then go to the person on FH and under birth use the media to copy and paste what I have saved on snap my screen. I don't have to ty...

Re: Back up options
Mike Thinking about all the files with an X it just means the images are no longer in my computer. Most of them are census images. So I have a choice of either deleting them all or downloading the images from Ancestry. Fortunately I wont have to do a systematic search as I have FTM. As you probably ...

Re: Back up options
That is a shame, but probably not a disaster, and warrants an explanation, some advice, and a few more questions - Sorry! (1) Explanation: (1.1) The File Links list shows the full folder path & filename recorded in each FH Multimedia Record. So the first one is: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrat...

Re: Back up options
Sorry looks as if I misunderstood your message The highlighted folder should have the name Markham 2c I thought that meant for me to create a new folder. I never had such a folder before even before I moved things to SkyDrive. Until a week or so ago I was able to back up with all three options. That...

Re: Back up options
I have now carried out changes. The revised screen shot is shown here. I am not sure about this.... I suggest renaming the highlighted folder, and move all its contents down into Markham 2c.fh_data folder. You will also need to create a plain text file called Markham 2c.fh_proj with contents: Code: ...

Jane This problem has happened to me. I always used a Project file and was always given the option of three choices to back it up.
