Re: Can't access my History

I moved from Windows laptop to a Mac laptop some years ago and kept my Windows desktop. I got FH up and running on the Mac laptop using Crossover and after some tinkering (detailed in the KB) I got it running fine, and as Crossover has been updated the issues have become almost non-existent. I then ...

Re: Notify me upon replies option

According to this article it can be done with a simple database query.

But Jane is not keen to do this which I understand but as @Mike says it would only be for threads where an individual had posted not all threads.

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

I had exactly the same issue with this plugin earlier in the year installing it on Crossover. It is part of the beta 2 thread IIRC.

The version of Wine I am running in the install that works is 4.0-rc4(Staging).

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

Mike

Earlier in the thread I had this issue. I just downloaded the zip file extracted it and put the resulting dll in the /public/../../../Plugins folder and it extracted the helpfile and ran fine.

I am running v4.3.4 of PlayOnMac which is the current version of POM.

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

I have managed to delete 3 old installations of Family Historian that were causing confusion. I now have one folder that is correct and this is the one with all the plugins in from my earlier post. So those screenshots reflect the state of the poll with regard to files and locations. Now I have inst...

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

Mike File Explorer is different on Mac, so no path actually shown for cut and paste. From my test Plugin it seems users/public/application data/calico pie/family historian/plugins/ exists OK. Does it exist in the POM file explorer? Yes it does see the first screenshot from my earlier reply. The FH P...

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

Mike Under users/colin/application data/calico pie/family historian I have two folders Plugin Data - this has Ancestral Sources data entry.dat, folder pl, Research planner.dat. Research Planner.dat also has folders under it even though it is shown as a programme Research Planner help and a cfg and f...

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

Helen I have just tried your instructions in PlayOnMac and it reports: C:\users\Public\Application Data\Calico Pie\Family Historian\Plugins\ I have a pl folder in that location and still no luck. I suspect that JP is in the same boat. As an aside I seem to have more plugins listed in that folder tha...

Re: Using FH & Ancestral Sources via a Remote Desktop (RDP)

Mike I did say that i also updated a couple of records without issue so it will work fine without internet access providing that it has network access. Although TeamViewer does need the internet to work as do most Remote Desktop programmes as they assume it will be remote access. Bearing in mind thi...

Re: Using FH & Ancestral Sources via a Remote Desktop (RDP)

This is not something that I had thought of so I thought I would give it a try. I have TeamViewer install on all my computers. I ran it on my iMac and also on an old Windows laptop. I remoted in to the iMac and happily ran Family Historian (PlayOnMac) version I checked some FindMyPast hints. Updated...

Yes, you are right Mike, that is where my PL folder is, but I have realised, even though I have installed Helen's plugin in PlayOnMac, I have never run it. I will do some digging tomorrow.

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

In PlayOnMac

wineprefix/FamilyHistorian/drive_c/users/colin/Application Data/Calico Pie/Family Historian/Plugin Data

is my path and it works fine from there.

Re: Web sites whose owners have died

Colin, you are correct to mention copyright, but since the original website no longer exists that may not be an issue. Won't using Cut & Paste or View Source only copy the top-level HTML page file and none of the underlying linked files such as CSS, JS, image files, etc, etc? Whereas, Ctrl+S captur...

Re: Web sites whose owners have died

I would advise against creating a new website from the data due to copyright issues. WaybackMachine is a snapshot in time and so i suspect that is how they get around any potential copyright issues. There are many ways to download the site from there. A simple cut and paste of each page, a right cli...

FindMyPast has some 56 Hill entries in immigration for those with around his birth year. Don't forget that a lot of immigrants to NZ stopped off in Australia first.

Re: RootsMagic Import error

That is invalid as far as Gedcom is concerned. It should be

1 EVEN
2 TYPE Military
2 DATE 1 MAR 1895
2 ADDR Place details
2 NOTE Military note

1 EVEN cannot have a qualifier so Rootsmagic is generating an invalid Event tag.

Removing blank died

I have noticed that in one of my projects I have a lot of individuals who have a fact of Died with no data attached to the fact. Is there an easy way to removed these died facts with no other data as it looks like I may have a few hundred to go through. I don't know how this has arisen as I don't no...
