Adding relation option in Census?
Is there a way to add an additional option to the Relation field drop down?
One that is missing is 'Inmate' for workhouse or prison residents. Also 'Orphan' is missing which is common in workhouse entries.

AS media not showing in FH
Thanks Mike I read that thread and reread it but couldn't work it out, that is why I started this one. I have tried again and now I understand and can see the image. Why are the 2 multimedia icons different? If they were the same I am sure it would cause less confusion if they all looked like a came...

AS media not showing in FH
Am I doing something wrong? I am using AS to enter my census data and am including an image. Looking at the citation for an individual it shows the path to the census image. If I click on the camera icon underneath the fact it shows the view / edit media window with no link to the image. If I select...

To back up my suggestion about the rin check if you look at my latest report you will see that most fall into the same category.

For me flags would also be very useful.

Find Duplicate Individuals
Mike, Tremendous speed improvement my 19 second search now takes less than 2 seconds. I agree that the -3 isn't sufficient as I have several father and sons, mother and daughters showing up because they have the same name. Maybe a search on the RIN and if within say 10 then maybe take off another 3 ...

Mike Another couple that it didn't identify http://www.fhug.org.uk/images/uploads/fergus1.jpg and http://www.fhug.org.uk/images/uploads/fergus2.jpg Thanks for adding the record numbers to the new version. BTW 1650 records search on a quad core 64bit machine with 16gb of ram took 19 seconds to run.

I have sorted out some duplicates this afternoon as promised. This one is probably a better example This is what Ancestral Quest reported http://www.fhug.org.uk/images/uploads/aq1.jpg This is what The Duplicates query reported http://www.fhug.org.uk/images/uploads/fh.jpg This is the first duplicate ...

Tatewise Thanks for responding so promptly. To give you an example the plugin identifies 14 records as duplicates. Running the same gedcom file through Ancestral Quest 14 identifies some 2088 duplicates. Family Tree Maker 2012 identifies 38 duplicates. This is on a file with 1650 individuals in it. ...

Thanks for creating this report. It works fine on my set-up. I didn't notice the problems that some others have maybe because I have more memory in my machine. Obviously it is work in progress it doesn't seem to be doing a full soundex search as the names I am researching are Lefever and Lefevre and...

It is worth having a look at Synctoy which is free from Microsoft. You can set it to backup your backup to an external drive either manually or automatically. It can back up anything else important too like your My Documents folder.

Brilliant.
Thanks that solved it. His wife had an illegitimate son and somehow I added him to George, I then deleted the son and attached him to Ellen and it appeared during this process. So a 'nut behind the wheel' error.

Another one of my newbie questions I am afraid. I have added some more detail to George Lefever and now he is shown twice in the focus page as shown in the attached image. Any idea's why? Nobody else is shown like this and there are another 1500 records. http://www.fhug.org.uk/images/uploads/screen1...

Data not going accross to Family Historian
Thanks guys. Yes it appears I am using two given your methods for identifying them. I told FH to use the gedcom in a custom location when I set the project up. (On my D drive not C:my documents). I opened AS and told it to use the same project but it seems that it ignored the custom location of the ...

Thanks for the suggestions I only have one gedcom on the go. Totally at sea with the whole of FH it just doesn't seem to work logically and things that are easy to do in other programmes seem excessively complicated or impossible to achieve in FH. AS seems like an excellent programme if only it wou;...

Thanks for the encouragement.
Certainly if it wasn't for AS I would have given up on FH by now.
I will keep at it for a few more days.

Lorna Thank you for your reply. Whilst you are not one of the recognised 'Experts' you have certainly been very helpful to me. I am certainly struggling with the whole way that FH works. I have been using PAF for so long that I suppose any new programme would be alien. FH is certainly trying my pati...

Sorry for the questions but I am really struggling to find this option. I have read the PDF and it says that this option is available BUT where? There is no description in the pdf on how to actually do it. I have 2 families that I have duplicated one from the 1861 census and the other from the 1891....

Lorna, Thanks once again for your help. The underlying issue for me is that the name I am researching has several variants and I have found that they change between the variants as they age going backwards and forwards in spelling. It is what can make one-name studies a challenge. I have downloaded ...

Yes there is only one project other than the sample one that I have created.
What I did was close the project and then re-open it and all the records are now there.
Very odd but now resolved.
Thank you for your help.

Find duplicate individuals?
Thanks Lorna I will give it a try. I am using FH for a one-name study and so I have lots of unconnected individuals. When a new piece of data becomes available I do a search for an existing person in my database and use the record if possible. But I have been getting some records by gedcom from othe...
