Re: Back Up

If you are running a Windows machine have a look at the free programme from Microsoft called Synctoy. It will backup / copy other files and folders that you want to once you have configured it. If you have a lot of data you maybe better off getting an external usb drive rather than a usb memory sti...

Re: Call to iPad Users

I have had the opposite experience with Teamviewer. On a trip to the UK I was away for 10 days and left it running on my PC at home accessed it 2 or 3 times every day without any issues whatsoever. I suspect it depends on exactly what you are doing. Did your computer switch to 'standby' (or whateve...

Yes it does. You can chop and change between Mac and Windows at the same time without issue. It is just a virtual machine within the Mac environment.

Re: Call to iPad Users

Jane,

I have put a little bit direct on the Knowledge base. I also made a post about the MAC this morning which you may want to copy across.

Free alternative for FH on a Mac

There have been several posts in the past about using FH on a MAC. My Windows laptop died a couple of months ago and went in the recycling bin. I decided to bit the bullet and try a Macbook Air due to its weight size etc. I was then presented with the problem of how to get FH running on it. I read t...

I like the new look

Jane I must say I like the new look of the forums and the site in general. Like anything new it takes a couple of days to get used to. Thank you for providing the site. It is not a small amount of work to do a major upgrade like this and keep the old site running at the same time. I congratulate you...

Jane

Any chance of centring the forum in the browser window. On a wide screen monitor it looks most odd scrunched up to the left?

Using V5 on a Mac

I have resurrected this old thread to see if anyone has tried getting FH to run under Wine on the MAC? Or is parallels still the best way to go?

I have just bought a MacBook Air and after looking at a couple of Mac family tree programmes I definitely need to get FH up and running on it.

Try using the Ancestral Sources plug-in to attach your new media to your person record. It may do what you want.

Lookup Missing Census Facts ~ New Plugin

Mike

Is there any chance of having an option with this plugin to search on FMP.com instead of .co.uk. FMP insist that you log in to the appropriate domain so even though there are matches I can't access them from the link on the html page.

If not so be it.

More php memory needed on the server. This can be done with a custom php.ini file.

Date record added?

I seem to remember that there is a way to see what date a record was added to FH V5.

Am I correct or did I dream it? If so can someone kindly tell me how I actually do this please?

TIA

Microfiche scanning

The dark around the edges is something that happens with all fiche readers due to the lens and the bulb. There isn't much that you can do about it when you are taking the photo. I found that the best results were with the camera on a tripod to ensure that the camera lens was in the same plane as the...

Microfiche scanning

No luck with a flat bed scanner. I have put mine on my fiche reader and then used my camera to photograph them and it has worked reasonably well. See small sample attached. I have read that other people have had some success with both a film slide scanner and also a usb microscope that connects dire...

Epub version of Getting Started guide

PDF to ePub even with Calibre is a real challenge and even the Calibre author says don't start with a PDF if you want a reflowable document. Don't forget that a lot of eReaders like both Sony and Kindle can read PDF's natively. If you really want to do this conversion then my advice would be to conv...
