Re: Recording DNA matches in Family Historian
I am taking a completely different approach to identify in Family Historian (1) which people have taken a DNA test (2) marking the paths of proven DNA matches back to the common ancestors. (1) I have a flag "DNA" which in diagrams switches on a DNA helix logo beneath the boxes of people that have ta...

I don't see a need to crop or alter original source images such as census. Digital storage is cheap these days.

Re: Tentative FH data
A short answer is that I use the IN PROGRESS flag that I have set to display a heavy dotted box for the person concerned in diagrams together with a "men at work" icon. Simple and effective.

Re: Running on two PCs
My vote is to sync via Dropbox on the cloud where I pay extra for Packrat which keeps copies of all historic versions of all of my data forever. I have been doing that continuously since 2009 with no issues. I have Family Historian set to Auto-save every minute while I work. The process is fully aut...

Re: Property box display problem
This issue may or may not be related to the property box and the physical size of the monitor/screen being used. If the property box contains a lot of content such as the addition of several customised fields, on laptop screens that have a reduced vertical height, the bottom area of the property box...

I use and recommend Arq which automatically updates a copy of your complete Drive C in the cloud every hour.

Re: Find my Past... or Ancestry ?
On Ancestry you don't get overwhelmed with results if you follow this technique. Search > Search All Records Match All Terms Exactly. Make good use of wildcards ? and * to take care of mistranscriptions etc. Use the Keyword field for places instead of the Location fields. Indeed use the keyword fiel...

http://maps.familysearch.org is your answer. Be sure to investigate all of the layers and facilities. I can't praise this website provided free by FamilySearch highly enough. Truly excellent - and I don't pin that label on many things.

Re: Exporting Gedcom file to Family Tree DNA
My issue with FTDNA family trees is that they do not recognise baptism or burial dates and places, only birth and death dates and places. Prior to 1837 where I don't have any birth or death information those people are devoid of any meaningful information on my FTDNA family tree. I am unwilling to c...

Re: Skeleton Tree for Ancestry
When viewing your family tree logged in on your own Ancestry account *you* can see everyone including living people, but everyone else cannot not see those living people because Ancestry hides them for you. See Tree Settings > Privacy Settings > Public Tree > "Information about living people is auto...

Re: Expressions for Diagram Icons
As an aside, the method to ensure that record flag icons are displayed in chronological order in diagrams, is: Diagram Options > Boxes tab, select Record Flag, Edit Condition. In there, Record Flag Conditions, you can order the icons by using the up and down buttons.

Re: Can I use a Migration event as a template to create a voyage event
Warning - unconventional opinions. Mike, I add the source images to the Media tab of the people concerned. I always exclude images from Diagrams and Reports so that is not an issue. I do not use Reports anyway. I really don't see the need to spend hours transcribing information from images apart fro...

Re: Can I use a Migration event as a template to create a voyage event
My solution is simple. Link the passenger list source image to the people concerned. That image contains all of the information of the event. No need to get hung up on transcribing that information into facts etc.
