Genetic Distance (for discussion)
There is already a wish list item 'Compute Genetic Relationship' for this as well as 'Graphical Relationship Calculator' which I feel could be more useful. One problem with calculating the genetic relationship is it assumes an exact 50% split of genes. This suggests I have exactly 50% of the same ge...

GenesReunited Hot Matches
At the moment my tree on Genes Reunited consists of only one person, me. As my name is David Brown I have four pages of hot matches with more added every month. Your hints on how to cut these down to the real ones if I expand to my full tree are very welcome.

An FH gedcom viewer to run from the CD/DVD
Sounds a good idea to me. While a read only version is fine for some of my PC literate relatives where I can tell them to go to Calico Pie's website to download and install it, some others are less PC literate and if it can be all wrapped up and included in a CD I create from my full version then th...

Direction arrows on Diagrams to select Individuals
Jane said: The cursor keys already do this, do you want on screen keys as well? All the time I spent Beta testing and I never noticed the hint that said you could use the arrow keys! I would still like them on a toolbar as well to avoid swapping from mouse to keyboard and back. Maybe on an optional...

Remember Drag and Move Action setting
I would like FH to remember the setting I last used for Drag and Move Actions when Moving and Resizing is turned off then on . At present if you do a Tree Move in a Diagram then turn off move/resizing and drag to add a child, when you switch move/resizing back on it has reverted to Box and Bar movin...

Group/Ungroup on Diagrams
I find I often work very zoomed out on large diagrams using multiselect to move Trees. At these zoom levels it is impossible to read who you are selecting and it is easy to accidentally select one wrong individual and mess up the moving you have already done. Similarly if you have moved a small Tree...

Grid Lock on Diagrams
The ability to move items around in Diagrams makes them very flexible, but the alignment of moved items, particularly the horizontal alignment on a top to bottom direction, relies on how good your eye is. I would like a Gird Lock function similar to those you find in drawing packages. If you turn th...

Direction arrows on Diagrams to select Individuals
If you have a very large Diagram, for example a descendant tree where the root had ten children and each of these had ten children, then closely related individuals can become a long way apart and need a lot of scrolling to find. I would find it useful if there were a set of four arrow buttons on t...

Even 15 minutes of coding needs testing to check it hasn't caused any strange effects elsewhere in the program.

Multiple Spouses and Diagrams
I assume you are using an Everyone Diagram and have a situation like one of the ones I have shown here. http://www.fhug.org.uk/images/uploads/EveryoneSpouses.JPG Sam Davis had two wives and had children with each of them. For his first wife Rachel Brighton, I have details of her father Mike. Sam's...

Verbal Sources
Thanks for all the suggestions. I have now created a source called 'Personal knowledge of Dave Brown' with a note saying items with this source are either recollections from my own experience or have been told to me over a period of years by my parents and I have no reason to doubt. This can cover e...

Detail contained on Death Certs c 1865
I recommend getting the death certificate, there could be much useful information. It will give you occupation and address details which may help you connect the individual with a census record. Cause of death can be interesting, one of my wife's ancestors died from 'a surfeit of Laudanum, administe...

Verbal Sources
Following on from this do you record verbal sources for events that you know from your own experience. For instance, I have known my brothers' birthdates from when I was a child, but I have no particular instance of when my parents told me. I don't have copies of their birth certificates and see no ...

Same sex couples
I know it's still a workaround, but with FH3 you can show a same sex couple on Diagrams. I suggest using the associated person as suggested by Jane in the other postings to record the relationship. Now create the Diagram for one of the partners and insert the same type of tree for the other partner ...

I have added two custom queries in the downloads section (line of descent and line of ascent). You can use either of them to specify a start and end person and it will list all of the people in the direct line including the start and end. You can then either add a flag to the results set to highligh...

Birth Cert - Mothers name?
It is likely the first husband was dead rather than divorced due to the reasons pointed out by SunnyLady, but I think late is meant to imply lately as in recently. If you look up late on the Compact Oxford English Dictionary on line at http://www.askoxford.com/ , one of the definitions is 'no longe...

Birth Cert - Mothers name?
I have one where the mother is listed as Sarah Wagstaff late Wagstaff formerly Day. So in her case she was born Sarah Day, married one Wagstaff and was widowed then married a second Wagstaff. I have all her birth and marriage certificates to confirm this and it also ties in with the censuses at the ...

I agree with Nick, not only does Jane provide the website and huge amounts of support she also provides us with the Wish List. Calico Pie take note of the Wish List, you only have to look at the last couple of releases to see that. This gives us a lot of input into the features we would like to see ...

Adopted by a Single Mother

FYI Jane is not an employee of Calico Pie so it is not her manual or her software. Jane is an enthusiastic user who maintains this site for the benefit of other FH users. website describing 17th c houses and furniture?
This is slightly outside family history but I'm hoping someone may already have come across a good website in their research. My 11 year old son has a school project to build a model of a house including the correct furniture for the period. He has chosen an early 17th century house which we visited...

My advice would be to follow the tutorial at least for the first three chapters. The tutorial is well written and covers most things you would want to do. Multiple Queries and reports.
Why not add the query results to a named list? You can put them in a new list, add them to an existing, remove from an existing or replace the contents of the existing. Seems pretty flexible.
