PALM Based Software

Has anyone used the software on a Palm Zire (early Zire same OS/memory/processor as a Palm V)?

Unable to read backup zip files

Thanks for the confirmation. By the way, what does the 'Bump' reply mean?

Unable to read backup zip files

I have recently been unable to open the zip files created by backup.  If I double click on them in Explorer I just get an empty folder although the zip file itself has a size of 80k.  This happens on two different PCs.  I have tried opening older backups which I know worked before and I get the same...

Birth Registered Twice??

If you have the certificate from the GRO why not ask the local register office who will have the original. If you explain why you want it they may well send you a photocopy of the original.

Ancestry.co.uk - adds search of 1881

One thing to watch out for is when a family is split over two pages. It seems the whole family have been given the same reference, so when you go to view image the youngest members may not be on the image. For example try searching for Whitbread Wagstaff, who was my 2xgreat uncle. If you view the im...

Working with diagrams

You already can open more than one GEDCOM at a time, just open another instance of FH.

Ancestry.co.uk - adds search of 1881

I wish they had completed the other censuses first. They were doing nicely on the 1871, then suddenly slowed down. I found this was because they were doing the 1901 even though it's already available on line. Now they have slowed down again to do the 1881. Ok, their search is different from the Nati...

FH 2.3 feedback

I am very happy with the 2.3 upgrade, the narrative report works well and the cut and paste is extremely useful. I have seen comments about entering census data on other posts and I think the cut and paste of events for individuals is very useful here. I don't use the census event, preferring to ent...

Make it easier to enter dates by accepting a wider

I have never seen numeric dates with spaces as a separator before and wouldn't call this instinctive.  However if that's what you prefer then it doesn't cause me a problem. I looked under tools, preferences and on the File Load/Save tab there is an option to define a separator.  I tried putting a sp...

Spell check

Maybe my knowlege of Windows is not so good here. Word, Outlook, Excel etc all seem to use the same custom dictionary so maybe it's just MS products. So maybe an FH custom dictionary is a better idea, then I wont have to have things like Jhon in my dictionary I use for Word. Thanks and I look forwar...

Entering names

Can you put two separate fields in the Main tab of an individual record, one for first names and one for surname? I know the // are from the GEDCOM standard, but they could still be used in the file and on the All tab. This would then make a clear distinction between what is part of the surname and ...

Spell check

I have searched the wish list and am amazed I can't find this. Please can you add a spell check facility. I frequently make typos which I don't notice (as I am sure my postings bear witness). This would need to use the same custom dictionary that I use for other windows applications. I would like th...

Data Field in sources

It just means I have to right click twice to add the field I want. Sounds trivial, but to me it is a user interface improvement worth having. I know I could enter in the sources pane, but one of the many excellent features of FH is the ability to enter data though many routes and sometimes I go thro...

Data Field in sources

I find the data field in sources totally unnecesary. I come across it if adding Text from Source in the All tab for Individuals for instance. I appreciate this is included to keep 100% GEDCOM compatible, but you could still retain it in the file format, just don't show it on screen. So if I right cl...
