Birth name v Adopted name

Sorry, I don't think I was very clear. What I meant was this level of logic doesn't exist yet (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) and you would need a structure similar to how I suggested in a future release of FH in order to do it. I believe this is covered by the wish list request I highlight...

Birth name v Adopted name

You need the diagram options text scheme to allow a statement something like (if %INDI.ADOP[1]% is false) %INDI.NAME[1]% (if %INDI.ADOP[1]% is true) adopted name %INDI.NAME[1]%nbirth name %INDI.NAME[2]% So if an adoption event exists for an individual it would show both name 1 and name 2 with name 1...

Birth name v Adopted name

Family is a possibility, but some might argue that Family is not a good description where the father plays no part in raising the child. Relationship may be another possibiilty but it sounds a bit contrived in some situations.

FH is not actually creating a spouse but it is creating the family record for the liaison with the father of the illegitimate child. I guess is not a very accurate description in this case, but it is probably a better one than . I have several ancestors who worked as servants and had a child by thei...

Multiple value fields on a query

You can have multiple variables. Take a look at 'Birthdays (for given day and month)' in the standard queries for example. Or do you mean you want a query where it asks you to enter the event type in a field when you run it, with a second field to enter the date. I don't think this is possible. It i...

Source/citations and additional data.

I only add a second event if the sources give different dates for example if you work their year of birth out from the age given on a marriage certificate and it doesn't match the date on the birth certificate.  I also have family bible dates that don't match birth certificate ones by a few days, I ...

Genes Reunited and privacy

Although I have visited Genes Reunited, the only person I currently have in my family tree there is me.  I would like to know what people think about privacy with Genes Reunited.  If I upload with living relatives what protection is there?  Do I need to strip everything out of the GEDCOM and just le...

Where do I go to find these?

For the marriage in Singapore you could try http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/OverseasStartSearchServlet. If you select marriages they include GRO Consular marriages from 1849 which may not be early enough or GRO Chaplains Returns 1796 to 1880. I don't know how complete these are, I previously tri...

Where do I go to find these?

If he was an ordained Church of England minister he will have been listed in Crockford's Directory. Not sure where you go to get hold of the 1921 edition, maybe the British Library. If he is listed it will give you a summary of his career including, education, parishes he worked in and missionary wo...

I don't know how you did the search and replace but if you selected the Find Whole Words Only option in your editor then it should not have had problems with Christopher etc. Also worth putting match case on as well. Alternatively search for CHRI (including one space afterwards, replacing with CHR o...

Import source from another file

I tried running two instances of FH and using the copy source function from one to paste to the other, unfortunately this doesn't work. Maybe this needs adding to the wish list. You could create a copy of the file from where you want to copy the source and use split tree helper to cut it down to one...

Mother in law on All relatives chart

I think this is actaully the All-in-One diagram in the View the Votes section on the left. As you can see it is high on the wish list, however there has been recent abuse of the voting system, which has distorted everything. There is no guarantee that Calico Pie will actually implement anything from...

Queries

This is because it's a standard query and standard queries can't be edited.  If you save as a custom query first, then go back to add the column, the > will be black not grey and you can add it. Someone may already have created this as a custom query and saved to this website.  It's worth having a l...

There definitely seems to be abuse on the voting. There are some features near the top of the list that I would not have expected that high compared to others (Genograms, Formal data collection...). Obviously this is only my opinion and if I am wrong my apologies to all those who voted for them. Acc...

Printing Diagrams from FH on a Roll Plotter

I hadn't thought about going via a pdf first, sounds like a good idea. Presumably you can set the length of the rectangle to whatever you need and then do shrink to fit on the plotter.

Printing Diagrams from FH on a Roll Plotter

Has anyone used FH with a plotter loaded with roll paper? I might be able to get hold of an old one from work and I would like to print out diagrams without page breaks. I have tried configuring a plotter on my PC, but it insists on selecting a fixed paper size, whereas I want to tell it to be A2 hi...

Recording Ships

I meant the child is the share not the share owner.  The owner is the residence place (or similar custom attribute).  So each ship has up to 64 shares which are its children and the children then reside in different locations (with different owners) during different date ranges. I have attached a sa...

Recording Ships

I'm not sure if you want to incorporate this data in with a 'normal' family tree. If not then how about setting up each ship as a single parent family with up to 64 children. Use the ship's name as the family surname and then call the children 1, 2, 3, ...64 for each share. So they will look like in...

When you look at an article from a search it highlights the search terms in pink in the article. If you copy the URL from your browser and paste it into another brother session you get the same article without the pink highlights. Then save image as .bmp and you have a clean copy.

This is excellent thank you. There are many useful articles in The Times, for instance First World War deaths. I don't know if I can search everything I want in three days, but I'm going to try.
