Re: Using OS Map refernces in Map

Found this site, which gives the functions needed to convert Lat/Long into a Grid Reference.
Would definitely need a Plugin to do the Conversion. Not sure if this would help.

Re: Using OS Map refernces in Map

If you go to http://www.gazetteer.org.uk/index.php They have over 50,000 entries. And they give OS Map Ref and the Latitude and Longitude as well. You can also purchase for £15 a complete copy of the data in csv format. They do allow downloading a demo version of the Data which is the first 1809 ent...

Re: Research Advice for a Newbie

I would also suggest contacting your nearest Family History Society, and see if they have a Research Centre you can visit. I believe that most do. Most would have access to at least FMP and Ancestry and also you can talk to the Volunteers and they would guide you in what records you need to view and...

Re: Census Dates

Extract from 1850 Census Act to enable the 1851 Census to take place. 1851Census.PNG I would suggest that the Sunday date is correct, as that is the Date of which the information is required, not that of when it was collected. Although that does mean I have my 1841 Census date wrong but all others c...

Yes is extremely simple. First need to create a Custom Query which contains the rows as below. Query.JPG Then create Descendants Chart for your Male Ancestor. Then from Menu choose Diagram->Selection & Marks->Set/Clear marks using Query Choose Query as created above Choose Run Query, Select your Mal...

Basically you need to access them from the properties of the person, not the properties of the media, as they relate to the person.

Re: Diagram Box Options for Marriage

It is possible to show Marriage in both Male and Female at the same time.
Just need to change the Options as described by Mike.

Also depends on whether you are looking at Ancestors or Descendants. As by default the Marriage info is shown in the Descendants Spouse Box whether that be Male or Female.

%INDI.FAMS[1]>~SPOU[1]>NATI[1]% Will always return the Husbands Nationality because that is what you are asking for. Because if you read it backwards you are asking for The 1st Nationality of the 1st Spouse of the 1st Family Record of the Individual. Family Records contain 2 Spouses HUSB and WIFE An...

Re: "Shires" and "Counties"

I suggest that everyone reads these notes regarding Counties and how formed http://www.gazetteer.org.uk/notes.php as there is a lot of difference between a "Historic County" (eg. Lancashire, Middlesex etc) which has never been abolished or boundaries changed and an "Administrive County" (E.g. Mersys...

Re: Main Ancestors for DNA matches

The simplest way is to use File->Import/Export->Export-Gedcom and the select who you want by use of a Query. In your case use the Ancestor Query and should then give you exactly what you want.

Re: Census entry notes

To view Census Households I just run a query, to show who is in a particular census. Sample output I get for 1861 Census is shown below
1861Census.PNG
1861Census.PNG (153.12 KiB) Viewed 5673 times
As you can see, I can also see Neighbours as well.

Re: Real Conundrum/Teaser

There is a known problem with the latest GRO Index. In that in some circumstances which are proven the age given at Death, should be an age in Months/Weeks/days etc rather than Years. So is possible that the 1861 Death is for someone aged 21 Months, which would bring into play the Birth registered Q...

Re: Citations - is there a correct way?

Probably doesn't really matter much so long as

a) Your consistent with how citations for that source are recorded
b) If someone else looks at your data, are they able to easily work out where it came from and find it.

Re: How to correctly record date and place from BMD Index entries

For Registration Districts, I record them with a prefix of RD. So in the case of Bingham, would have place as "RD - Bingham", this then allows me to see at a glance all the entries which I have not got an exact place for, and need further investigation. (Either but certificate or find on Census etc)...

The GRO have updated their indexes so if you search online from the GRO Website you can now get Mother's Maiden Name for births before 1911 and Age at death for the deaths before 1865 https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp .This should help in making sure you buy the righ...
