Re: Changing repositories : evidence
David Have a look at the "evidence explained" quick lesson 17 on web site https://www.evidenceexplained.com/content/quicklesson-17-evidence-analysis-process-map . It expands the evidence-analysis-process grid in the front of the actual book and is particularly relevant to your point 4. I find the bo...

Re: Changing repositories
Elizabeth Shown Mills in "Evidence Explained" says on page 58 "a web site is not a repository" ... She does see it as an important element in the citation. The issue is how to reconcile the fields in FHn (or any other database structure) with getting the information that we have found recorded consi...

Re: Changing computer
If you are keeping the old computer as a back up - then rather than formally migrating why not see if you can save the relevant things relating to FHn to a usb to put onto the new computer.. that would include the gedcom file plus the .fhq and other things for customised diagrams etc. (I am not on W...

RECORDING CENSUS RETURNS
If you want to record full census information(and other documents too) have a look at 'Custodian' [www.custodian3.co.uk - also available elsewhere]. I use it for keeping track of info from all sorts of sources (using its dedicated datasets) and cross reference to FH for those who are directly releva...

Just seen that findmypast is going to be offering 1911 as part of their subscription and people already on findmypast will be offered a discounted rate if they renew I think in October... Now all I want is to be able to use my findmypast sub for scotlands people........

genealogical junk -- a dilemma
Never forget that ultimately Ancestry is a commercial organisation - they do not have an interest in accuracy per se (and witness some of the appalling transcription errors) but getting paid. I pulled my tree but it has not stopped someone else I have been in touch with leaving, despite my request ...

genealogical junk -- a dilemma
I find this difficult too as in the past I have pointed out after a general exchange that I have differing information - and serious researchers are happy to discuss but I fear many who are not so rigorous are not prepared to have their information queried so on the whole I have now given up saying ...

Or see if a local printer will print a large pdf version off a memory stick? If you have any architectural practice friends they may have a plotter they are willing to print out on for a smallish cost?

FH overpriced download ?
Surely if the retailers have knowledge of an update they will want to resell their current stock (assumimg they hold it) so they will want to sell V3 asap, as boxes could become almost unsellable after the announcement of a new version, though Calico Pie has indicated that for those who bought after...

Gedcom Census is very good as it makes one consistent in how one enters the information. Decide how you are going to use the sources when you set it up - have a play. Diagrams can be saved as jpg and other formats from within the programme. FH did not win the best FamHist programme award for nothing...

Chasing GRO for a non received cert
This is the first time there has been a failure to deliver in one way or another as I've normally found the GRO good (other than when WDYTYA is in full flight!) - usually certs come within four days - but on this occasion nothing and the hassle of chasing it not user friendly which was my point (LOL...

And don't forget too that Baptisms were sometimes done in job lots - two or three children (or more!) of a family, all at one time and various ages.... my latest is just over a year after a birth... and I have to check if the younger sister was done at the same time

I use the system of putting a 'before' date in the birth/death if I only have the christening/burial, using the known date as the base... Not sure how else, in principle, to do it other than leaving the birth/death fact blank, and as the tree gets larger that becomes awkward in determining which Geo...
