Re: Problem Upgrading to AS7
........ Stuart: if at some point in the future you feel like resolving this then please do drop me an email (nick at ancestralsources dot com) and I'll be happy to help you get this working. I have resolved this problem, but probably not in a way that you would wish for. Having discovered that I s...

Re: Problem Upgrading to AS7
Just in case it might be of relevance to anyone else... I assume that my PC was set up without any defined Users because there is only one user, and no username nor password for that one user (which is me obviously). When I switch on the start up process takes me straight to my normal desktop. If I ...

Re: Problem Upgrading to AS7
This is not an AS problem at all, hundreds of people have downloaded it this week and I've not had other reports of this problem. Your PC is not allowing AS to create a folder in your documents. There is nothing that AS can do about that, if it's being blocked, it's being blocked! My suspicion, as ...

Re: Problem Upgrading to AS7
Mike, The full address for the FH Projects folder is : C:\Users\Microsoft Windows\Documents\CURRENT\GENEALOGY\FHprojects It is a long-standing folder structure that I've used through a number of versions of both FH and AS, up to and including my latest PC with Win10; and no problems encountered. The...

Re: Problem Upgrading to AS7
Mike and Nick, Yes, AS must have recreated the AS folders after I had deleted them, and in the same place. I do use the standard Documents folder for all my files and FH projects sit within a folder within that. I don't use a thrid-party anti-virus, just Windows Defender. I don't think that I ran th...

Re: Problem Upgrading to AS7
@stuartd : Can you use Windows File Explorer and save any file to that 'documents' folder: C:\Users\Microsoft Windows\Documents\ and the settings folder: C:\Users\Microsoft Windows\Documents\Ancestral Sources\Settings\ Is that your usual My Documents folder? i.e. Do you sign in to the account Micro...

Re: Problem Upgrading to AS7
Nick, A slight typo in my previous posting, there shouldn't have been a slash between Microsoft and Windows, i.e. the correct path reads : C:\Users\Microsoft Windows\Documents\Ancestral Sources\Settings\Auto-text.xml Not sure if that makes any difference anyway.... Prior to the upgrade to FH7 and AS...

Re: Problem Upgrading to AS7
Hi Stuart. I assume you're installing the 64 bit version? When you install AS7 try right-clicking on the installer and then choose 'Run as Administrator'. If after that you continue to get message boxes please can you let me know the first error you get? Nick, Yes I installed the 64-bit version, an...

Re: Problem Upgrading to AS7
I've just downloaded AS7 and can't get it to open; I'm using Win10. All I get is a whole series of boxes saying that it can't access a settings file; no references to .NET in the error messages. I've uninstalled the earlier version of AS, and done a 'Restart' of the computer, and re-installed AS7, b...

You can still use that method; all you have to do is choose either and then change the sex of the individual to 'clear sex' when the property box opens.

Re: reordering the Pool
Yes, Mike, I had looked at the help page, but that only explains what the Pool Number is, which wasn't the issue.
Thank you Lorna; that explains why it doesn't appear on my Records Window; so "problem" resolved.

Re: reordering the Pool
There won't be any gaps in the numbers. If you click on the column heading for the Pool number in the Records Window, or in the results set from the Search for Orphans query, this will sort the pools in order. If pool number 23 exists then all pool numbers up to 23 also exist! Apologies if I may be...

Re: Adopted child in diagram
Mike, I have gone back to the features box and played around with the various settings to see which worked and which didn't. I think the box fill wasn't working because I hadn't selected a box 'shape'. When I selected a rectangle for the box shape then the fill colour also appeared; likewise with th...

Re: Adopted child in diagram
Apologies for being less than precise about the order of expressions. I suppose I was rather mentally discounting the default, as always being there, the Box Type is indeed next to bottom of the list. I was expecting that a request for a screenshot would be the next obvious step, and never having do...

Re: Adopted child in diagram
Mike, I think I had the expression correctly written, but to be certain I Copied the expression from your posting into the relevant box, but still no success. Curiously, if I edit the features to include an icon that appears as soon as I click on "Apply"; likewise the text colour option. But not the...

Re: Adopted child in diagram
Mike, I spotted your posting as soon as I had sent my reply to Jane.....
The expression dealing with adoption is at the top of the list of expressions and the priority column says Highest; the Box type is at the bottom of the list; but the box remains unchanged.
Stuart

Re: Adopted child in diagram
Thank you Jane. Your first suggestion produced the word "Adopted" in the details beneath the individual, and I know that I can alter its position relative to other details and font size, colour, etc... So that is certainly a solution. The second suggestion is more in line with what I had in mind, an...

Adopted child in diagram
I have an individual who was adopted, and I would like that aspect of the relationship to be immediately visible in diagrams. I have set the relationship to 'a' on the parents property box. I seem to recall reading/seeing somewhere that in traditional trees this was shown by a small circle on the de...

Re: custom text schemes
I'm pleased to report that this does now seem to be resolved.
I suspect that there may be some duplicate folders left, but take the view that since they aren't stopping FH working I'll not risk deleting anything!
Again, thanks to you both for your help with this.
Kind regards,
Stuart

Thank you, Jane.
The path that Mike referred to is now visible. I have copied the custom schemes across to that folder and they now appear in the Diagram Options box as expected.
Kind regards,
Stuart

Re: custom text schemes
Thanks for your quick and thorough response, Mike. There are text scheme sub-folders (Custom and Standard) in the Program File path that I stated originally; so I suppose I must have copied them there at some point...... :? The guidance for Migration assumes, not unreasonably, that one still has acc...

custom text schemes
I have just transferred my Family Historian program and projects to a new computer (and from Win7 to Win10), and almost everything has been successful. But my custom text schemes do not appear in the relevant list in the Diagram Options box. However, they are there. The path - C:\Program Files (x86)...

Expressions in diagram boxes
Whilst I found some posts that seem to relate to this problem, I couldn't find an exact answer to my situation; and reference to the knowledge base left me even more confused.... I have used expressions to place an icon if I have birth/marr/death certificates for individuals, and this used to work f...
