Re: Burial date anomaly in Focus window?
I was with Legacy for a time. And my data has thousands of blank Death facts now. No date, place, cause, note, source. Just a helpful "He died." from the automatic sentence creation. One such individual is the son, who I know by name only, of an Armenian General who died in 385. That he's dead is ob...

Re: New Pre-release: 6.1.1
Ah ha. That was it.
It does turn out I have a Death fact without date, place, cause, note, or source.
(And I've actually been seeing a lot of them in my data lately. Not sure how they got there, but I've been ignoring them. Don't want to keep ignoring them.)
I see a query in my future.
Thanks.

Re: Change Any Fact, but with a bit more info
I am getting an error.
Warning: %INDI.BAPM._PRIM% Y ~ Invalid Tag.
Check that the Source and Target are compatible.
Is the Christening fact malformed? (I.e. rendered non-standard after multiple conversions to proprietary software and back out to gedcom?)

Re: Change Any Fact, but with a bit more info
Thanks. I'll just try with adding the extra columns. I'm going to catch a lot that way. (I typically open FH in 1/2 of my screen (I like to split my screen between two views, but if I drag FH to full width just work on this one topic, that will let me open up a lot more columns to view.) (I can also...

Re: Change Any Fact, but with a bit more info
I do have multiple sources for these Christenings. But I don't want to keep adding columns to account for additional sources. I don't think I can repeat an Individual to provide the data for multiple sources. (I.e if there's 3 sources, the individual appears on 3 lines, a non-issue if I sort on indi...

Re: Change Any Fact, but with a bit more info
I made a query Query Type: Individual Columns: Individual, %INDI% -Name Record Id, =RecordId() -Their Id to sort on (like the plugin does). Where Within Source, %INDI.CHR.SOUR.PAGE% - I've got notes here. I can't put my figure on the expression of the "Text From Source" expression. I need that since...

Change Any Fact, but with a bit more info
Just starting to take a look at this plugin. I spent a little too much time not long back changing a lot of baptisms to christenings. The records were for baptisms, but the software I was using would not use a baptism fact as a birth proxy in the views. (A baptism was hard to see until you looked at...

Witness feature. Just when I thought I was done with an ancestor, they pull me back in. I'm downloading Wills & Probate Records where I can find them online. I've already made one correction to my data, in a branch long not visited, based on irrefutable will language. And added a few more family mem...

Out of curiosity, does this plug-in go fact by fact, seeking a confirmation for each change (with an option to replace-all)?

Re: Diagram Box Color and/or Icon via Expressions
I now see Parameter 2 of the ContainsText help entry. That seems generously willing to find matches for me. For my specific purposes right now, though, matching by State, up through the late 1600s into the early 1800s, using "New York" "New Jersey" "Maryland" aren't going to result in many mismatche...

Re: Diagram Box Color and/or Icon via Expressions
Sure. Under Diagram, Options, Boxes, I added four conditions: 1) Expression: =ContainsText(%INDI.DEAT.PLAC>%,"New York",STD) And I gave that a Feature of Box Fill Yellow. (That highlights individuals who's death is recorded somewhere in New York in yellow.) 2) Expression: =ContainsText(%INDI.DEAT.PL...

Diagram Box Color and/or Icon via Expressions
Wow, that is such a powerful tool. I was inspired after finding Vols 6-13 of the Calendar of Wills for New Jersey via FamilySearch (Google Books and the Internet Archive only had the first five) to renew an interest in Wills. (And, already, as it turns out, one ancestor was assigned to the wrong bro...

Re: Creating a new source (using an old source)
I got the plugin. (Worked nice.) I tried the Auto citation window. I did see the "clone record" feature. (Thanks.) (But as I tried to find the record I wanted, to see about selecting it to clone, I typed in a letter, did something, and managed to crash FH to the desktop. :| ) But, question answered,...

Creating a new source (using an old source)
To stay consistent with my source info, I like to create new sources based on old when I can. Like all the Visitations published by the Harleian Society. I have reason to create a new one today (for Kent) and just want to based it on another I have already in my database. I don't see where I can tho...

Re: Is V5 to V6 upgrade worthwhile?
I'm satisfied with my upgrade from V5 to V6.
Since it was an upgrade, it was cheaper than buying from scratch.
And since I was spending money, Calico earned a little to continue working on what will be V7 and beyond.
In my opinion, yes, it is.

Re: Name shown with Suffix, in general
Thanks for the ideas. I have updated my Caption for the Property Box. (With the addition of nickname, and now I can add title too.) The info is there, just a bit subtle for me still. I can't make a similar appearance change to the Focus Window, however, can I? (I don't see a "captions" entry in the ...

Name shown with Suffix, in general
It seems to me, unless there's a toggle I haven't found, that the name suffix doesn't appear in the windows, just the reports. Particularly in early colonial times, a lot my ancestors are referred to as "of Someplace" to distinguish them from someone else of the same name, probably their father who ...

Am I being cynical when I see links to 'free gedcom checker' or 'free gedcom parser' and feel that these are nothing more than offering you a free report/view/check in exchange for your uploading your hard work to their servers? In other words: giving away your gedcom file free of charge, that thes...

Tombaston said: I have another question, how to cope with places in countries like the USA where you have town, county, state and country? Do you just drop the county, I suspect there may be town names where they occur more than once in the same state? You will find that most all genealogy data co...

Spouses with Common Ancestors
Isn't that normal, to find common ancestry at some point? My wife (Florida born and raised) and I (west coast dad and a german mom) share some colonial New England ancestors. I am as closely related to George W. Bush, and she to Barack Obama, as we are to each other via this colonial ancestry, s...

standards regarding burial locations
For starters, I like how FH sticks events and attributes where they're logically expected when there is no date. Previously I had to give burials a date of 'after death date' to make them sort right. Now I can thankfully leave it blank and it goes right to the end. (Unless I have the actual burial r...
