Ancestral Sources sounds a very interesting and useful development, thankyou Nick. What I am wondering is if I can transfer all the census entries I have made on Gedcom Census without having to re-enter them. If so I shall certainly download it.[smile]

diagram missing from toolbar
Suddenly 'diagram', which should be situated between Tools and Internet on the toolbar has disappeared and Multimedia has come in its place. What have I done? Even if I have a diagram open it's not there. I can still bring up diagram options by right clicking the diagram. I know it's probably someth...

using notes
Thanks Chris and John this is all very helpful. I shall now start at the beginning and try and standardize each person's notes. At least now I have a better idea of what I'm trying to achieve!

Help! There seem to be several different places to keep notes about an individual in FH, and I find it difficult to be consistent about where I put which notes. For example for one individual there could be the witnesses at wedding, or godparents at christening, perhaps details about his appearance....

birth and baptism
I wonder how other users cope with baptism and birth in FH? After 1837 we have the birthdate, but for earlier years perhaps only a baptism date. This is usually soon after birth but could be years later. My problem is on setting out the details in FH and how they show up in diagrams. If I just use t...

Thanks Nick, that is exactly what I would have expected. But there are no scroll buttons. There are (faded out)scroll buttons next to the Source Note and Autotext boxes but none at all opposite the bottom section where the names are transferred from the Individuals list. Am I missing something here?

details on census returns
Am I being too pedantic? If a census return has certain details about someone then surely that is what I should record? I have an ancestor who put a different place of birth on each census return, all within a few miles, yet the Gedcom Census programme took the birthplace I had entered in Family His...

I am lost! I have entered my basic family tree with no problem. Then I decided to enter some baptisms and marriages with a surname I am researching, but some of them may not be connected to me at all. I probably have double entries, or children not connected to parents they should be connected to, a...

Please tell me the best way to enter different branches of my family. I have set up different files for my mother's side and my father's side, another file for my direct ancestors, maybe this was a mistake as people have different ID numbers in each file.Should I re-enter them all in the same file? ...
