FH2.3 - editing narrative sentences
Sabine We will think about what you said. We certainly will want to make FH suitable for multiple languages. The date code is actually more complex than it might appear because there are so many possible kinds of date types. For example, the date might be accurate to the day, to the month or to t...

Advice sought on emailing diagrams/narratives
Incidentally, if you're on version 2.1, I would strongly recommend that you download a free upgrade to version 2.3 from http://www.family-historian.co.uk/downloads. There were a lot of enhancements in 2.2 and 2.3 so it's well worth doing.

I have just posted a message the FHU Mailing List about this. But for the benefit of FHUG members who do not subscribe to that list, here is a copy of the email: ------------------------- Subject: *** False virus detection Following today's postings about false virus detection, I just wanted to giv...

Hi I think you're both possibly talking at cross-purposes. I think when Barrie says 'trees' he means family tree files - whereas Jane thought he meant tree in the diagram sense. From Barrie's email to me, I believe he/you are actually talking about the list of previously-opened files at the bottom o...

Hello g_mcallister
I've had a look at this. It's a bug. Sorry about that. It will be fixed in the release.

Bruce - thanks for the kind words about the program. Both of the problems you mention should be fixed in the next release. Leading and trailing spaces will still be removed, but a space will be inserted when an item continues on the same (non-blank) line as a previous item.

Hi Mark I couldn't reproduce this without actually closing the Property Dialog. As long as I left the Property Dialog button open, the 'Go Back' button continued to work, ungreyed, however I added a New Source. I tried 3 click the 'Add Citation' and then clicking 'New' to add a new source. And I a...

Robert and others - Family Historian is not intended to support the option of having some children descending from marriage lines, and some from each parent's own box. Thomas Spencer, in Dave's (Tombaston's)example is sort of like that - but this is really a glitch. It isn't supposed to display li...

Hello sadlerandskipper I haven't been able to reproduce what you're describing, but I suspect I'm looking at the wrong thing. You talk about reports in your first posting but about diagrams in the second. In F.H. these are quite different. Can you say exactly which diagram or report you are using? I...

Deleting custom facts
Yes you can delete sets of facts (events or attributes) throughout the file. You need to use a custom query to do this. Define a query to produce a column (in the Result Set tab of the Query Window) that shows all the facts that you want to delete. Then select them all and click on the Delete key...

Peter - can I just confirm what Jane has said. The Record Detail reports basically display all details for selected records. I don't know what options you are thinking about, but no it is not the case that any of these reports are meant to include or exclude data items that you have ticked. Each of ...

Chris - thank you for pointing this out. We weren't aware of it. You say that there are lots of other examples. I found on experimentation that I could get what you describe to happen by pressing the up or down arrows in the source pane, just after entering data in any source pane field (i.e. withou...

Richard - you should be able to correct this if you made all the boxes the same size. That should make all the rows the same size. Then you can rescale the diagram so that you can get an exact number of rows fitting vertically within each page. Then when you click 'Avoid Page Boundaries' the diagram...

Data validation and error checking
Alan - Family Historian does not validate to check whether dates are in the future. I have just checked 4 of the best known other genealogy programs and none of them do either. There is no limit to the number of things that one could check for. As far as I am aware, no-one has ever asked for this...

Chris & Others >> What I don't understand is, that since FAM.HUSB clearly returns the right person, why is =LifeDates(%FAM.HUSB>%) always blank? << It's a bug I'm afraid. You're quite right - it should work. Essentially the bug is that at present, F.H. never passes a reference to a family record t...

Long Notes
Gerry, yes there is a limit on the length of notes. It's about 30,000 characters - and bear in mind that spaces count as characters too. However there is no limit on the number of notes you can have about a person, so the best solution,as Jane says, is to split your long note into 2 shorter ones. ...

Kirsty another thought: are you quite sure that you haven't somehow opened an old file by mistake? If you click on the 'Update' column in the Records Window, it will sort on last-updated date. When was the last update of an Individual record? (if you have done any updates since you discovered the...

Kirsty I've never heard of anything like this happening. Which version of Family Historian are you using? If you're not sure, click on About Family Historian on the Help menu. Hello Jane asked me to have a look at this one. Thank you for the images you uploaded. It really helps to work out what's going on. When you reset the dimensions, did that fix the problem? If not, I think you need to adjust the margin settings in the 'More Dimensions' dialog (click on 'More Dim...

Jeremy I can't reproduce this. When I've tried it, it does say when husbands died (and wives). Did the problem occur in different reports? If so, did you have 'Spouse Events/Attrs' checked in the Main tab of the Options dialog in both cases? If you did, can you think of anything else that might ...
