Free Upgrade
Anyone who bought a download copy of version 3 via our website, since november 26th 2008, was entitled to a free downloadable upgrade to version 4 when available. I'm sorry for the delay with those upgrades. The emails (including all instructions you need, a link for the download, and registration...

To upgrade or not?
There do seem to be a lot of misunderstandings about projects, so perhaps this may help: FH has always lets you put your GEDCOM files wherever you want and still does. The only difference is that if you create a project, it will maintain the GEDCOM file in the folder that is created for that projec...

V4 nbsp;- upside down text
We have now put together a minor upgrade (to 4.0.1) which should fix the problem of the upside down text, but we would like as many people as possible who had that problem to confirm that it does indeed fix the problem, before we make it generally available. If you would like to give it a go, the up...

Project folders and media files
Is your project name a long one? You could try renaming it to make it shorter. Close the current project and right-click on the project you wish to rename and select 'Project Properties'. Then change the name to something short and press OK.

Project folders and media files
There are really 2 issues here, not one: the first issue is - do you want to use a project folder at all? The second issue is - if you do, do you want FH to copy any or all of your multimedia files into it? Sometimes people assume that if you don't plan to keep multimedia files in a project folde...

If the subject interests you, try typing 'McAfee false positives' into Google - there's plenty of stuff on it. The problem is by no means limited to McAfee, of course.

Issue downloading trial
This has been reported to us, and we in turn have reported it to McAfee as a false positive. Unfortunately, although they do not advertise the fact, it is quite common for anti-virus programs to make incorrect reports like this. Hopefully McAfee will fix the problem soon.

Ian - I think you must be looking at the spec for DRAFT Release 5.5.1. In this spec, Multimedia records do have source citations. However, 5.5.1 was only ever released as a draft - it was never adopted. The last official release of GEDCOM is version 5.5, and in that version Multimedia records do ...

Double line spacing in source's actual text
Jon
You are quite right. It is a bug and it will be fixed in the release. You can work around the problem for now by delaying pasting the Text From Source information until you have opened a separate edit window in Step 6. If you do that, you won't get the double line spacing.

I'm sorry to hear you're having this problem. Here are some thoughts: >> Things started to go wrong, I think, after I opened a Bitmap Image with Microsoft Paint to add a caption. Parameters to be supported in Query Titles
I can't think of an easy solution to this at present. The reason that =Date(['CutOff']) prompts for a separate instance of the parameter 'CutOff' is that the function 'Date' does not take a date as a parameter. It takes up to 3 integers (for year, month, day). Consequently, FH thinks that in this us...

Problem with queries on name parts
Jon the reason that your query failed is because Family Historian does not consider a given name to be NULL if there is a Name field, even if it does not contain a given name. Instead, in this situation, it treats the given name as an 'empty string'. Your query would have worked if instead of mak...

The link provided by Jon is very helpful with this one, and goes most of the way to explaining the problem. Jon - you should be able to get round this problem immediately by cloning the 'Birth, Marr, Death' text scheme and then making changes to the clone (to clone it, select it and click the 'Clone' button in the Text tab of the Diagram Options dialog). You say you have version 3.1.2. Did you buy it as ...

Steve - there is no 3.2. The latest version is 3.1.2. Is that what you meant? As Jane says, it sounds like a resource error - i.e. your PC is getting over-stretched. As you have Windows 98, I'm guessing that you don't have a very powerful machine. How much memory do you have? I'd recommend not ...

I think I can see what the problem is. Looking at Richard's settings in the 'More Dimensions' dialog, he has changed some values to make rows thinner, and bring boxes closer together. The combined total of the (d), (b) and (e) values give the total gap between any given childbar, and the bottom of...

If you want to remove all data (except name) for people who are Living, using FH, you would first need to have some way of identifying which people are in fact living. One way would be to set the Living flag for each of these people (perhaps using a query to identify good candidates). You could then...

Which version of FH are you on? If you have version 3, you can get rid of proxy boxes in the Diagram Options dialog. Presumably you are using an 'All Relatives' diagram. You probably can't get rid of horizontal dotted lines in those, unless you have a very simple tree. You might find that you get re...
