Re: Upgrading to FHv6
Hi Tatewise, My answers are below. When you open your FH Projects , do you click on the Project or Gedcom files, OR do you open FH itself and then use File > Project Window to open Projects ? Normally I open up FH with my project/gedcom set as default. However, after originally installing the upgrad...

Re: Upgrading to FHv6
Thank you both for your reply. To be honest I would have thought that was the natural thing to do, but having found the version 5 upgrade was most definitely not straightforward, and in fact having already done the v6 upgrade and come across an issue with it, I thought I had better check. For inform...

Upgrading to FHv6
Hi There, Can anyone point please point me to a set of instructions for upgrading to FHv6 from FHv5 (on the same PC, Windows 10). I have searched the knowledge base but all the links keep referring me to the page for upgrading and moving to another PC.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Using Expressions to show Census Icons on Diagrams
Hi Mike,
Just to let you know that worked a treat! Thank you very much. I now have only Individual Census Events, no duplicates and no data lost. Exactly what I wanted and so easy!
Thank you very, very much for your help.
Sharon.

Re: Using Expressions to show Census Icons on Diagrams
Thank you Mike.
I've attached a screen shot of the error I get from the plugin. I'm afraid it means nothing to me.
Thank you for your help - you've given me good advice in the past, so I appreciate you helping me again.

Using Expressions to show Census Icons on Diagrams
Hi there. I'm currently using FH V5.0.11 on Windows 10 and I'm in the process of changing from Flags to Expressions to display icons on my diagrams. I have already done expressions for all birth, baptism, marriages, death and burial but I've hit a problem with censuses. Having had a few odd results,...

Re: Flag/Icon links in Diagrams
Hi again tatewise, Well! To cut a long story short, I found most (but not all) of the icons and a saved custom diagram amongst the data I archived last year. The diagram had the conditions (tabs) for all my flags but no feature details, and it also had a couple of expressions, so I'd obviously been ...

Re: Flag/Icon links in Diagrams
Hi Tatewise, I owe you a huge apology for not getting back to you since March. Real life got in the way, and all things Family History went completely out of my mind. Please accept my apologies. I still don't have the time to get back into things properly, but I know I'll have done something wrong s...

Re: Flag/Icon links in Diagrams
Hi tatewise. Sorry if I am confusing you. I am probably somewhat out of my depth here and not explaining myself very well, and possibly not fully understanding your meaning. It was some time ago so I can't remember the specifics of what I did, but I do know that I followed the guide as best I could....

Re: Flag/Icon links in Diagrams
I did follow the migration guide as best as I could, but I hope I didn't miss anything. I made a number of changes to folders and where files were being stored and their naming conventions (some of this was aimed at getting FH to work better with TNG sofwatre to present my tree online) The sort of c...

Re: Flag/Icon links in Diagrams
Thanks tatewise. Re the quoted text in your first response: I'll need to check whether I have saved any customised diagrams correctly. They'll be on an external HD as I have also upgraded my laptop recently. Fingers crossed! I've certainly saved some in the past, but I don't think I've used any spec...

Re: Flag/Icon links in Diagrams
Thanks Tatewise. Yes I knew the icons could be done using expressions, and it seems this is the preferred way of adding an icon to a diagram, but I'm still not clear on what the benefits are of using this method, other than to do away with the use of flags for data related references. Have I misssed...

Flag/Icon links in Diagrams
Hi, I upgraded to version 5 some time ago, but haven't had much time to do any family history since then. I'm just getting back into it now and have a question about whether or not it is possible to automatically re-link record flags to the icons I use on my diagrams? To explain a little more - I us...

Re: How to find a record which cites a specific source?
Thank you both - I'm using v5 and Peter's suggestion has shown me the link. On this occasion, a quick look through the Facts tab has identified where the citation is made, but I'll have a look through the link you posted, as I still have to go through the same process for Marriage and Death. Thank y...

How to find a record which cites a specific source?
Hi There, I am currently tidying up my source references in Family Historian v5. I started out years ago citing just 'Birth Certificate', 'Marriage Certificate' etc as sources, but I now want to have a separate source record and citation for each birth certificate I have, as I am now linking the Sou...

Re: Upgrading to v5 - changes to file structures?
Thank you both for your replies. I have spent the afternoon following the advice and instructions you have given and I think I have it sorted :D I have successfully uploaded an exported / converted gedcom and all the associated data into TNG. I had to reset all the media links, but since my media na...

Re: Upgrading to v5 - changes to file structures?
tatewise - once again, thank you. I am sorry I appear to be so dumb about this. I do keep reading the article, and yes, it says it can be done, but doesn't say how (at least not as far as I have been able to find). It has taken me a while to realise I had to click on the current location in order to...

Re: Upgrading to v5 - changes to file structures?
Thanks tatewise. The structure I currently have is : file structure.JPG The standard installation of FHv5 puts another layer between my gedcom and the media subfolders, by putting them into a Media folder. fhv5 structure.JPG The only options I can see for creating a new project is either to let FHv5...

Thank you both for your help. @ tatewise: I had read the articles at the link you provided, and I'm sorry if my questions sounded as though I hadn't bothered. Upgrading to v5 - changes to file structures?
After trialling it on another PC, I have just purchased v5 and am about to install it on the PC which currently has v3 and all my family history files and folders on it. This PC is running Windows Vista - Home premium. I've done all my backups, and I'm ready to install, but I just wanted to clarify ...

Re: Upgrading to 5 with customised diagrams
Thank you both for your very helpful answers. I am using the trial version of v5 at the moment on a different PC to the one with v3 on, and using a copy of the v3 Gedcom. I've only ever used standard Text types, most of my customisation has been done using flags and queries. Following your instructi...

Upgrading to 5 with customised diagrams
Hi there, I hope someone is able to advise me. I have been using v3 for some time and am mow looking into upgrading to v5. The thing is, I use quite a lot of flags to display icons in my diagram, so that I can see at a glance who I have the BMD, Parish and census records for. My first question is th...

V3 not responding when trying to display diagrams
I have just started using FH again after a break of about 12 mths from family history research. I use the diagrams as my main page and the program was working fine the last time I used it, but now it stops responding whenever I try and display any diagrams. I've tried it with a couple of GED files, ...
