Duplicate sources
I don't know if there is a quick way to do this in FH4 directly, however you could manipulate the gedcom file if you feel brave. Find the source reference numbers and then in a text editor do a replace of one for the other (e.g., @S62@ for @S1943@). Then delete the rogue source record itself (in ged...

Where do I enter cause of death now?
You can go to properties and select V3 Compatibility if you want - this adds a tab similiar to the one you are talking about with Cause of Death, etc. Sorry I can't be more specific, the computer I am typing this on is not the one that has FH on it, but it is quite obvious when you know what to look...

Hi Roger,
Making the chart vertical is just the matter of a tickbox, but I don't understand what else ejp's diagram doesn't achieve against your criteria. Perhaps you could post a diagram as an example? FH diagrams are very flexible and I'm sure what you want can be achieved.

Estimating death
You can always see all your relatives on Genes Reunited, but as long as you have ticked the 'Hide Living Relatives' box your contacts will just see 'Living Relative' and no details for anyone without a date of death and born in the last 120 years. The reason you can see them is so you can edit the d...

Web Page Display - Any Better?
I completely agree with what Ric says above. I use TNG rather than PhpGedView, but again that was just a matter of style choice rather than functionality. I think the web output from V3/V4 is adequate for what it is supposed to be doing, in fact I think it is quite good compared to some others I hav...

Flags out of scope of GEDCOM 5.5?
I think a better option might be to use the split file helper, as suggested by Jane, to remove the flags before uploading to PhpGedView. This is a very quick step (but make sure you are working on a copy!) This would mean you could still find other errors on PhpGedView but you would not need to defi...

I'll have to be brief as I'm supposed to be cooking the dinner :) I'll add more later. Customise -> New Tab -> Name it, e.g. 'Flags' UNCLICK the 'Show most commonly used items' CLICK ' for advanced users' (for indeed you are now an advanced user!) CLICK the little right-arrow thingy to send it to th...

How do I rename a flag
Depends on which method you used, if you used mine, the step that has 'Option 3' deletes the old flag.

How do I rename a flag
I did it like this (I am a bit query-phobic!) Tools->Work with Named Lists and Flags Type the name of a new list (say TEMP), select the misnamed flag, then Option 4. Type the correct name of the flag, then Option 1. Change the flag back to misnamed one and then Option 3. Finally option 6. Note that ...

Three Cheers for Jane
I would just like to say a word of thanks to Jane for all the hard work she puts into this user group, including all the brilliant How To articles and videos she uploads. For someone that doesn't get paid for doing it, and doesn't even work for the software company, I think her commitment is astonis...

I think the new customisable Property Box in V4 is great! I've used it to create a tab so I can see the status of some of my flags.

Well, I'll add what I do, but that is certainly not saying what I do is right! 1) I find it preferable to avoid abbreviations - so I put 'General Records Office' instead of 'GRO', etc. Trying to decode abbreviations meaningful to other people can be difficult. 2) I put the stuff you have in 'Short T...

Thumbnail View Issues
I'd noticed the behaviour from your first point in V3. When editing media links I'd either changed externally, OR by replacing with a link to a different file, the refresh would not happen until FH was restarted. I just took it to be a quirk! I've had similar problems with thumbnails of people on di...

Exactly how much have the subscriptions gone up? Because I certainly paid more than £63 last year, in fact I thought it was £79.99? I'm unsure because at some point I upgraded to worldwide.

Seeing as it's now the end of April, I'm just waiting for the 'Version 4: it's going to be May' announcement. I think it might have been better not to announce it in the first place!

Gedcom Census with TNG - Help
Colin, In TNG try going into Admin -> Custom Event Types. Make sure the CENS tag shows ACCEPT (and not IGNORE) in the 'On Import' Column. If it shows IGNORE, click the box to the left of CENS and press the 'Accept Selected' button at the top of the list. You will then need to reimport your gedcom. H...

[grin] @ Ian! Tony, I agree with you in trying to get the most out of FH, we all want that for sure. Re-reading my post it reads as if I wanted everything to remain static - which isn't the case - I just want the unique feature - 100% GEDCOM 5.5 compliance - left alone. I understand this is a selfis...

I disagree, and quite frankly I wish people would stop trying to get FH changed from the way it currently works. If you aren't happy with that, it might be time to move onto another piece of software that does meet your needs rather than constantly sniping at the one thing that some users actually w...

Well I don't want to get into defending findmypast.com, or disagreeing with you in any substantial way Alan. I was just stating that I was happy with the service. I work in large IT projects as well, and £51m is nothing to some of the projects I see (though not work on, thankfully). But that £51m is...

Although I find the cost expensive, I'm not sure it isn't fair and reflective of the costs required to scan millions of documents and provide the huge amount of hardware required to host the data. How To View All People In A Tree
Hello Peter, I find it useful to create a few sources called 'GRO Births', 'GRO Deaths', 'GRO Marriages'. To record information for a birth obtained from the BMD Indexes, I add the event Year into the appropriate date field and then select correct source, and in 'Where within Source' I add the refer...

Flags on Sources
Hi Debbie, You would need to add another line to your query adding INDI.BIRT[1].SOUR[2] ..etc... to capture the second source explicitly. If you have defined a Type in the source (which I find is a good idea), you can use Add if %INDI.BIRT[1].SOUR[1]>_TYPE% matches 'Birth Certificate' Which admitted...
