Re: Media Thumbnails
Peter, does the problem persist if you close FH and then re-open it? I have found the same issue but I believe FH refreshes thumbnails when opening, so no other action should be necessary.

Re: Expression guidance please
You put the equals sign at the beginning of the expression, like this: =ContainsText(%INDI.BIRT[1].PLAC>%,"Devon",STD) You can see some examples in the online help, here: https://www.family-historian.co.uk/help/fh7/function_containstext.html If you are using a function in an expression in a conditio...

Re: Family Historian 7 and TNG 12.1
Hi Sharon, have you read the advice on creating Histories pages on TNG on the TNG Wiki? There are a number of different ways, including creating them from media files (including Word, PDF, etc.) A brief description is given here, if you haven't already seen it: https://tng.lythgoes.net/wiki/index.ph...

Re: Witness addresses
You are correct in what you have written, John. When viewing Witness events from the perspective of the witness rather than the principal, the data shown in the fact window belongs to the principal. This has caught me unawares a number of times, especially with marriage witnesses and death certifica...

Re: Make Diagram Options box expandable
With all respect to the posting made by Jane, I doubt anyone goes trawling through the whole arcane wish list looking to see if a request has already been made, especially not new users to the Forum. Stalwarts like yourself may remember these requests coming up at the time, but I doubt very few othe...

Re: Make Diagram Options box expandable
Yes I totally agree with this and would support and vote for it on the wish list. The request has been very cogently expressed so I don't think I have any to add to it as it stands. However, I have always thought it would be handy if the expressions could be named/titled in the Boxes section, so not...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms
As far as I can see, this already happens; that is, the GedCom file produced with a GedZip file refers to folders created internally within that GedZip file. For example: 1 FILE media\ext\Photo - Cook, Herbert Stanley 01.jpg 2 FORM image/jpg 2 TITL Photo - Cook, Herbert Stanley 01 And within the Ged...

Re: Adding Census Transcription After Entry
You could use the Census Source Convert feature to create a rich-text transcription. Thank you Nick. I watched your excellent video (more than once in fact) and thought there might be a workaround like that. However, I was thinking of revisiting a number of my early censuses and creating transcript...

Adding Census Transcription After Entry
Am I right in thinking that there is no way of going back to AS and adding an auto text transcription (plain text or rich text) of a census that had no transcription added at the time of entry? If that is the case, does anyone have any suggestions about how to go about adding a transcription without...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms
The media tab for me only shows the media that is linked to the person. Usually just a headshot. I don't see any of the media attached to the person's facts, any media attached to events on which the person is a witness, or any media on the sources for their events. It would be great if I could fig...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms
If I click on a fact (e.g. birth) and then on the little image button below it shows me the images attached to the sources for that fact in the Media Viewer (I have the Include Source Record Media check box ticked). Re: Does one use muktiple sources for same event?
Same as Helen, and for the same reasons. The last 25 years of research has taught me never to believe anything I see on paper :D For a date of birth, I will quite often have a GRO Births Index and/or Birth Certificate, a Baptism Record, a 1939 Register entry and a GRO Deaths Index if it gives DOB. S...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms
But in FH I don't have to click the source to view the media. If I select a fact it shows me any media linked to the fact, citations and the source. i.e. it automatically follows the citation links to the sources and fetches the images from all of them for me. Could you show me what you mean, pleas...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms
Yes FH does that but as I understand it, Kevin's problem is that TNG doesn't do that so the images don't show up for him in TNG unless they are linked to the fact. Just to be explain, the images do show up in TNG, and they show up where they're supposed to - i.e., when you view the source. If you w...

Re: AS / FH and TNG Gedcoms
I assume you are wanting to link the image of the source media to the person so that the TNG Person screen will show the media in the media section, rather than buried within the sources, which will have to be clicked through at the bottom of the page before you can then view the media attached to i...

Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0
So do you mean that you have some other program that combats 'Ransomware'? I'm guessing he means Ransomware Protection which is now in Windows Security (just type Ransomware in the Windows task bar search box). Another user (Nick Walker, I think) had mentioned in another post about making adjustmen...

Re: FH import/export GEDCOM 7 issues
Just out of interest I did a GEDCOM 7 export, and in the resultant file it states 1 GEDC 2 VERS 7.0 So I guess we only have to worry about problems against that specification, rather than the latest flavour, as Mark puts it. It might be a little clearer if the export drop-down stated 7.0 or 7.0.0 in...

Re: FH import/export GEDCOM 7 issues
This is one of the problems of constant patch releases using semantic versioning (major.minor.patch). At best I think it is only feasible to expect large genealogical sites and software providers to keep up with minor releases (7.1, 7.2 for example). Given that these companies haven't had to keep up...

Re: Export to TNG from scratch!
Hi Lesley, I'm glad you have some reassurance, because when it finally does 'click' you will find it has been worth the effort, I'm sure. You should not have to rearrange your local media folders or their contents in any way. Mike's Export Gedcom Plugin, with the right settings, will output all the ...

Re: Export to TNG from scratch!
I work with TNG a lot and I would be happy to help where I can. FH and TNG do work well together once you have ironed out the intricacies. There are a couple of 'gotchas', especially around Witnesses, but even these can be made to work (via Mike's Export Gedcom Plugin). Media export/import is notori...

Re: What specifically can you currently do with a gedcom 7 exported file?
I'm not sure whether you mean commercial paid-for genealogical sites such as Ancestry, FMP, etc., or more user-orientated but still paid-for options such as TNG (The Next Generation). I'm also not sure how much can be discussed without the moderators imposing restrictions because of the forum rule n...
