It is me who should be sorry Mike, I do get so carried away, there is so much to learn.
I will try to behave myself in future

Re: Browser icons & text difficult to see
Hello Helen Unfortunately for me, my grandson has not been in contact (too much football and too many girlfriends !!)And so regarding Firefox I went to BT help line and they have installed it along with the 'no squint' which is represented by + and - on the toolbar. However, I cannot see it on FHUG...

Re: V5.09
As Usual with FH it is a big thank you; I have done what has been advised and I have now upgraded to 5.0.9.. It does seem that one asks a question and within hours the answer comes back. Lorna, Anne and Mike, as a beginner I do most sincerely thank you.

V5.09
In the project window I have just received a message saying that a free update of version 5.09 is available to download. When I tried to do this I got another message saying that it was malicious; I got out in double quick time!! What is the meaning? Is there an upgrade? Please advise, thank you Ron

Re: Browser icons & text difficult to see
Thank you very much Helen. From what you say Firefoxt could be a great help to me. I am using Internet Explorer; I went into Google and found that Firefox can be downloaded for free. Will it cause me any problems with emails or FH? I am sorry to be a pain but I am concerned that swopping over to an...

Re: Back Up
Thank you Jane & Mike. Here is an update: I went to PC World this morning Jane and did as you suggested, I purchased a 16GB USB Drive for £19.99. There aren't any instructions so I hope my Grandson knows what to do when I see him later this week (otherwise I shall come back to you!!!) In FHUG the i...

Re: Back Up
Thank you Jane & Valkrider. I am awfully confused and am waiting for my grandson to come and sort me out (out of the mouths of babes and suckling's!!) I do have USB slots; one is taken up by an oversize keyboard from R.N.I.B. and the other by a mouse. I can release this by purchasing a wireless mou...

Back Up
Hello, I have now received from Jane a 20 font point book "getting Started with FH". I dare not lose this. I have never backed up anything before on a computer and so I am looking for advice. I am thinking of going into town and visiting a store called PC World. What I would like, if available, is ...

Re: Getting the most from F.H.
Hello Jane I have just returned from a not so dirty weekend and found this wonderful early Xmas present. Thank you so much for the 20 point Jane. If only I knew where you lived I would send you a bunch of flowers or something. It is only people like me, partially sighted, who can appreciate the time...

Re: Getting the most from F.H.
Thank you Lorna and Mike for all the time that you have spent on my behalf; and I am truly sorry for being such a nuisance which is of little benefit, if any, to other users. I have found a print out of chapter 12 on version 4. I am able to read it. What I would like to ask is can I transfer from v5...

Getting the most from F.H.
I am using 'the book', Getting the most from F.H. which has been sent to my PC in large print. I can read the print on screen without too much difficulty but when I try to print the resulting text is significantly smaller and I can only read it with the aid of a magnifying glass . I am most interest...

Ancestry
Hello to all I have been given several certificates all of which seem to be computer printouts. The person who gave them to me does not know where they originated from but believes that they come from Ancestry. As a result I got onto Ancestry and paid my subscription as the certificate information ...

Change of name
Hello
One of my grandchildren has changed his name at a very early age (at least his mother did it for him).
Should his original name be shown on the tree with an AKA reference , or should the Change of name be shown?
Thank you
Ron

Adoption
Hello, Both my children are adopted. The Birth Certificate for both of them show my surname and the Christian Names that we gave them at the time of adoption which was only a few weeks after birth. It is only after looking at the court order that I find their original names which are not (I believe)...

Re: Decision Time
Thank you for your help Jane & Mike. The reason that I have been so long answering is because I made such a hash of my project that I deleted it and started again. It was not too bad, only three generations. The template text you gave me for marriage Mike worked like a dream; it is easy when you kno...

There are two final questions that I would like to ask. a) In the facts Tab for eg Baptism; if I enter St. Luke's Church in the "place" section and Pitsea, Essex in the "address" section only the Baptism, Date & Place is shown in the diagram box. How can I ensure that the "address" is also shown in ...

Re: Multiple Marriages
Hello Mike, thank you for all the time you spend on my behalf, but I'm afraid that I have to report a dismal failure. I complete the easy part about getting on to the edit text scheme and then to the template. This is where my problems start. First of all I am confronted with =Exists Text (%FAM>MARR...

Re: Multiple Marriages
Thank you for your time Mike. Unfortunately, and I am not being rude, I have not got a clue what you are on about.
This time I will pass until one day, perhaps, I might understand the formulae.
Better luck for me next time?
Ron

Text scheme & Project Window
Due to all the help that I have had I am now nearly ready to start presenting my family tree. At the moment I only have two problems: I am using my own text scheme which includes all the basics, ie, BMD,Adoption, Baptism, Divorce & Death. I would like to see Marriage & Divorce in the boxes of both p...
