Version 4!
Brilliant news, the enhancements listed will make an excellent programme even better. Looking forward to getting my hands on it. Any idea when we will get screen shots and if there will be an instruction book to go with it? Jon, reading the anouncement it looks as if it will cost about £24. Margaret...

Enumerators do help........Sometimes
Many years ago I went door to door collecting Census information. When we were interviewed for the 'position' we were told that we weren't allowed to work in our own area and were given an area where it was thought that we didn't know anyone, if by chance we called on someone we knew we had to give ...

I would vote for that, my grandfather was James Elliott, my husband's grandfather was also James Elliott, they both seemed to have relations called James, William and Thomas which makes it a nightmare trying to quickly work out which one of them to select. It would be wonderful having some sort of c...

Undoing an existing person link
Good morning Alan, In the records window click on the child that you want to unlink, then go to 'Edit' about halfway down the list is 'Unlink From', this gives you the options that you are looking for. If you then choose the parents option you will get a list of the parents that the child is linked ...

Where to go when you can't find it
Tony, I don't know if this is relevant, but twins usually have the time of their birth on the birth certificate. I'm presuming that if you can track down a likely birth certificate for Hannah the same might be true for triplets and there could be a time written down in the date column which might he...

Unmarried Couple or Never Married?
After searching high and low for a marriage certificate I've come to the conclusion that two of my ancestors never married though they obviously lived together and had children, so far so good. On the marriage status line I have the choice of denoting that they were either an 'Unmarried Couple' or '...

I am a fan of the Morland Dynasty books by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles and am in the process of putting their convoluted tree onto FH.

Help me get started with limited info - please!
When I first joined Ancestry for their 14 day free trial I went as far as the payment screen and backed out before I gave any details, immediately a little box popped up offering me 30 days free trial. I don't know if they still do this but it's worth a try. Also, has anyone used familyhistory.com (...

What other software do you use for Family History?
I use Gedcom Census and also an excel spreadsheet on which I just put ID numbers, names and columns for BMD and Census returns then I can see at a glance what I need to chase up. I would be interested in any feed-back on Family Atlas, how easy it is to use and what kind of information it shows etc. ...

Thank you very much Simon, I was beginning to think that it was me - a bit like calling in the washing machine repair man only to find that the machine works perfectly [cry].
Thanks again

Relationship to Root
Jane & Simon,
It's a very new file that I've just started with only a few names, all I'm doing is clicking in the 'add child/add parent' boxes and adding the name, so far there aren't any multiple marriages or step children. I've sent a copy of the file to Simon as he requested.

Relationship to Root
Not sure if this is me or a glitch, I have myself as the root person and when I entered my husband and his parents the relationship came up correctly, however when I entered his sister she came up as 'husband's half sister', again when I entered some of his aunts, uncles and grandparents they all ca...

Can some-one please tell me how I get the source pane to remain open all the time rather than to keep having to click on it each time. I know that I did it once but have forgotten how.
Thanks, Margaret

As well as Ancestry there is also S & N though they don't have such good coverage.
As for Ancestry's free 14 day trial, if you get to the page where you have to give your card details then back out you will then get an offer for a 30 day free trial - or at least I did[lol]

WW1 Death - registration?
My grandfather was also killed in WWI and I managed to find the references for his certificate. Like you I knew the date, burial place etc. and I was very disappointed when the certificate came back with the bare information giving his age, born in England, date and place of death and the cause of d...

.GFT Files
Richard,
.GFT is a programme called 'Family Tree' it is still available from GSP for I think £9.99! I started out with this programme and from memory it only holds birth and death information. I think that it is GEDCOM, but what version I don't know.
Hope this helps.

Buying Version 3 nbsp;- Advice please
I have used both S&N and TWR and found them both efficient and helpful with queries.
Incidently TWR have changed their web site and say 'for delivery from 29th March' for Version 3.

Showing Record ID numbers in reports
I'm not very good at explaining, but, when the report is on the screen click on 'Options' then scroll down in the large box until you come to 'Record ID' then 'Edit' and select the option you want.
